    OP,

After rereading your post, how long did you computer take to boot "before" the Win 10 April update?

If for example it was say 1 to 2 minutes, but 10 minutes after the update, then you probably just had a corrupted Windows update installation which can definitely cause a computer and cause all types of other problems.

And where you say the tech moved Windows to the SSD, well, he must have "reinstalled" Windows which could have got rid of the corruption problem....would have got rid of the corruption problem even reinstalling it on the old hard drive.

    somtamjames,

Cloning a drive doesn't take long....can be easily done in 30 minutes or so....I've done it many times on my computers when swapping out hard drives for SSDs.

It took 14 hours for a 1 TB drive, done at a computer shop. But the disc had a problem, that's why it was done.

    Funny.

Nana is definitely full of LB.

I don't care what people do I always find it interesting the bashing of LB when in fact there is a big market for their company.

See more younger guys with them then I remember.

I didn't make fun of them. I'd already paid and she did a good job, I a sort of understand why they are so famous. But please don't tell my wife about it.

Agree with KhunBENQ.   10 minutes for boot-up time is really long....probably a sign your hard drive had a serious problem.

A SSD can definitely speed-up the boot-up process, "especially on older/low horsepower computers," as I have installed 4 SSDs in my various laptops over the last 3 to 4 years...and two of these computers were 10  year old/low horsepower laptops.

SSDs in these "older/low horsepower" laptops made their boot-up time decrease from around 60-90 seconds to around 30-45 seconds.

For my new/high horsepower laptops the boot-up time was also decreased but not by a massive amount....but I still could easily see and feel a much snappier computer.   With these new/high horsepower laptops the boot-up time was around 30 seconds with the old/original hard drives, but with a SSD their boot-up time is around 15-20 seconds.

And of course each computer boot-up time will also depend on how many and type of software programs are loading, horsepower of the hardware, etc.

Such a problem right after the April update could be anything related to the new OS, a driver that doesn't work, etc..

There are various programs to check the health of a hard drive.

        Here's some information:

Not everyone views sports utility vehicles the same way. TATA have a 4x4 drop-side for 560K which I am sure would satisfy those not bothered about passenger comfort.

TATA must be the new Trabant version of former east Germany.

Depends how remote the village of course. I am only 4km from a small town centre catering for everyday needs, including a 30 bed hospital. A larger town on the NE rail line is only another 11km and 12 baht bus ride away.

A 12 baht bus ride sounds like hell to me. I hope that you've got beer there?

The question is..... Is it usual that 71 year old expats have jobs....? The answer is : NO !

There is no country in the world where so many people fall from balconies. It always surprises me that these cases are closed by suicide, depression or alcoholism. Tell me why does this deathrate caused by falling from balconies  happen at such a high rate only in Thailand?

Are the fences to low? Yes and no. I simply can not believe that it is always self inflicted.

Only imagine. You don't have friends, sex without blue pills doesn't exist, nor does free sex, perhaps some illnesses and no insurance, money issues, and many bills to pay.

       What's left in your life?

Hmm, interesting that many on here have already installed the 1803 update, yet this is still not showing up as outstanding on my laptop for some mysterious reason.

But, of course, this month's "Patch Wednesday" is due this week, so maybe I'll be presented with this particular "delight" then!

    Here's what's new in 1803:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/whats-new-windows-10-version-1803

Here's the manual download link, just click update now:

It can take up to two hours. First it downloads it, then installs it while you can still use your machine. But the set up is like a new Windows installation.

    When I didn't order something

If you went into a Gogo and didn't buy a drink you were lucky not to be "escorted" to the door and thrown out. They are not a "free" entertainment place. I'm not surprised they got angry.

I used to go to the lady boy bars because they played better music and seemed to be more enthusiastic dancers than the girl chrome pole shufflers, but the "girls" were always pushy. I went back to one just for old times sake, but they are really desperate now, and soon as a new customer comes in the door, they all gather round trying to get the guy to buy them a drink or take them out. However, they need to understand that desperation is a turn off and give the customers some space. I just kept saying no, and when the pressure got too intense I just left. Much less pressure in the real girl bars, but worse music, and no enthusiasm.

I wanted to meet a friend and just looked around if she was there. I wasn't sitting there without ordering a drink, they were not in a good mood because they had no customers. I only stood there for maybe three minutes.

I wasn't aware of the coyote situation. Back in the 90s, none were "coyotes" and all would go with one if the price was right.

That might explain why the best looking girl in a certain Gogo hadn't been bought out by midnight, and wasn't even trying to attract a customer. Normally if one looks at them they'll be all over one soon as they stop dancing, but this DDG girl was more interested in chatting to the other girls than looking for a meal ticket out.

One thing that has definitely changed is that the girls are all gone a lot sooner than I expected. The bar with the best lookers was down to 4 girls on stage by 11pm. One obviously has to be fast these days.

One obviously has to be fast these days.

That's true, and it gives them time for more customers when you're that fast.

More now than ever before, due to the policies of successive governments over the last 15 or so years.  But it seems that the reporting was sub-standard- it isn't teachers who have been targeted but people abusing the education visas.  That also explains why they were arresting 'teachers' in the middle of the night during the school holidays.

But there are people who teach on such a visa, wouldn't you agree?
