  2. between 85 and 90 I was on Samui yearly for a couple of weeks to relax. Everywhere, Lamai, Menam, Chaweng, Koh Phangan as well......87 even at the small beach next to Raja ferry around the rocks for a couple of weeks, which is now an industrial area, then stunningly beautiful, long way to Reggae Pub, which was a tiny, very simple disco spot opposite the now Centara Grand in the middle of a tense and dark palm tree forest on a sandy path...everything everywhere was extremely beautiful, calm and peaceful and the first time I have read about pirates in the 80s on Samui was....on 12 Mar 2013, 04:26 to be precise.

If there would have been pirates, I guess Farangs would have been a much more lucrative prey than Vietnamese boat people....but maybe they are right, the old sailors over there, I am not old and not a sailor the Imperial hotel was attacked and its guests robbed, the culprits came and left by boats. Some of the farangs who left the island when the Thai army stepped in 'mid 80's) are still residing in the country. Yes the Reggae Pub... dancing in the sand.

As I understand it - the army came to the island in 1983, they were red berets based in Surat Thani and led by a very able Lieut. Saming who was sent by the Governor Niphon Buntayaro after a resort was attacked by nine armed hoodlums who were locals from Chaweng. They were not pirates and did not come by sea and it was not The Imperial as it was not even

    built then.

  3. A reliable source has informed me of a situation:

“Last week an Asian female tourist got into trouble with the rip out front of Tradewinds Resort.

Three regular farangs who have been helping with rescues lately went to her
assistance, one had a large inflatable tube and the girl grabbed it at the same
time a jet ski arrived and called for her to grab his hand.

She continued with the farang and was landed back safely on the beach where six Thai jet ski guys
showed up and began to beat the farang up

  4. I bought my house in 2003 with a view for it to be a retirement home - hopefully soon and as such have never rented it out - but gradually getting it to just how I want it

I do not think it is a good idea to leave it unsupervised - and therefore I pay a maintenance company to clean the house and look after the garden also have a friends car left in the drive

I do however live in a 'village' - which in the UK's terms would be a housing estate

  5. That's interesting as I'm coming over from the UK next week to check 'my curtains are straight' - well that's what I tell everyone - and my Click needs a service

I thought the Foam shop could make the seat more comfortable at the same time

SJ - I'm near the Big C so do you have anything I could look out for to make finding JJ's easier?

    Thanks

  6. I think this is firing warning shots about a future land grab and I would urge anyone to ditch the 'company ownership route' as essentially it is built on an illegal principle, the trouble with Thai law is that there is usually lots of little exclusions which are a matter of interpretation.

I have enjoyed the use of my house in Samui as a holiday home since I 'purchased it' via the company route in 2003

If I were to 'ditch' the company ownership route - what would be the best way to achieve this (I do not have a Thai wife/girlfriend)

I would be quite happy to go down the lease route as I'm 53 and this would take me to 83 but unsure who would then actually own it (obviously not me)

    Any thoughts appreciated

  7. You have to go downstairs via the escalator - usually there are people giving directions. I'm so used to it now that I can't remember if there are signs for the taxi rank - I think there are

As to where the taxi goes - I just ask for Nana and 20 mins later if the traffic is reasonable I'm there

Sorry I can't be more specific

  8. I really pleased that I saw your post - thanks Beano

I had a rough ride back in Economy class last week due to a foot injury - so booked up for my Feb trip with Qatar Business class using the 3 day sale

Sort of early Christmas present to myself

Btw - the transit times are both less than 2 hours

Let us know if there are any available for around June if you get the nod
