  2. Hi

I did post this in a reply to a question about this topic but no one replied so i will start a new one.

When i arrive in febuary i will be staying at a friends place in ubon ratchitani for a month so my question is...

I know we need to inform the government of where i am staying within  24 hours so could some one please tell me...

Where do i go , who do i see and what do i  need to take with me in ubon?

An address would be great because my friend who i  am staying with mentioned that where we need to go is nearly 2 hours from the airport which to me doesnt sound right?

I thought it would be immigration at ubon?

This person is the house owner and will be coming with me.

    Thanks for any information

P.s...what is this 24 hour rule /law  actually called?

    Yeah ok no worries. Thanks

Apologies ubon i wasnt specific with my dates  its Actually not a year and a half in the future...its next year wanting to re enter thailand mid may next year 2020 at a border crossing.  Passport expires jan 2021...thats 7 / 8 months left.

I don't know if 6 months is 6 months or a grumpy IO might hassle me being so close to the 6 month mark ..im not an experienced traveler.

    Cheers

  5. Sorry guys i have to ask a couple of other questions cos i might have a different plan.

My passport expires jan 10 2021...

My 60 day visa plus 30 day extension will take me to may 4.

On may 3 will i be able to go into laos for 2 weeks at a border crossing in ubon and then come back mid may and stay thailand 30 more days heading back to oz in mid June....will my passport have enough months left? I calculate going back into thailand mid may will leave 7 and a half months...

Also can i come back at a border crossing for 30 days or is it still 15?

Which is the best border crossing from ubon into laos?

Cheers for any  info in this....

  6. Hi

    I am from Australia.

I have changed my trip to thailand to feb on a 60 day tourist visa and will extend 1 month and my passport expires jan 10 2021... will there will be enough months left on my passport to arrive? It usually says that 6 months should be left on your passport but is that from the date of arrival or is it from the date the visa is issued? I will apply for visa in January 2020 which leaves 12 months left on passport, can someone confirm this is fine?

Also whats the process in renewing it in thailand as i am thinking of travelling asia for a few months after thailand.

Do you do it at the Australian embassy?

    Whats the price?

And how long does it take?

I wont have the time to renew before i leave so any advice will be helpful.

    Cheers

Just use the report function to advise a moderator - seems it has already been moved.

As for Urologist without Thai language I would be looking at a private hospital (my advised dealing with a top government hospital was not a good experience although am sure doctor was well qualified and ended on operating room table when advised canceled due no ICU room available and there would be a 3-4 month delay to reschedule cancer operation).  There is normally little or no waiting involved at a private hospital - at government there often is and especially for treatment.  Consultation at higher priced hospitals would likely be less than 2,000 baht and ultrasound is not that expensive (well under 10k).

I ended up using this doctor (was at Bangkok Hospital) who now at Bumrungrad and very pleased with his manner/knowledge/treatment.

Ok thanks for the information i will look into both

  8. Hi.

Im from Australia and i  arrive later next week on a 60 day tourist visa and i have a condition called epididymo orchitis which i thought was cleared but it has comeback for a 3rd time since march.

I have been cleared of it being from an std so its from urinary tract infection and pain comes and goes.

I dont want to cancel my trip and

I  dont have time to see a urologist here and do some urine tests probably another ultrasound and wait for results.

I will predominantly be in bangkok and ubon so could anyone tell me how quick i might be able to see a specialist and roughly what price would i be looking at for the following....

    1. Consultation with a urologist and follow up appointment

    2. Urine test m/c/s & cystology

    3. Ultrasound for testicles and prostate.

I could  go to a  Public  or private hospital but i guess it would depend on price and wait time but i think public you just turn up?

I will only have  standard travel insurance and because this is a pre condition and it wouldn't be covered so would be paying myself.

Thanks for any information and advice anyone can give.

Not looking forward to the 9 hour fight as it seems to hurt more sitting...ouch

It's a basic medical certificate you can obtain at general clinics (your Thai friend will know where).

In my area the cost is 50 baht.

You never see a GP. The fact you walked in still breathing seems enough, although they now have a new medical certificate requested by some DLT offices, so may be slightly more expensive and involve a test.

Cheers Tanoshi... i appreciate your information

There are two separate procedures to obtain a licence.

Firstly you'll need to obtain a 'certificate of residence' from local Immigration.

    You'll need;

    Completed application form.

    Cert of Res App form..pdf

    Passport.

Signed Copies of photo/details page of passport, current Visa, last entry stamp, TM6

Signed Copies of your friends Tabien Baan and ID card.

When you have the 'certificate of residence' you can apply for the licence.

    You may need;

Documents as above + certificate of residence.

After taking and passing the test you will be issued with a motorcycle licence initially valid for 2 years.

    cheers for this information Tanoshi

  11. Hi.

Does anyone know if you can get a certificate of residence if you only have a SETV?  I was told the only way to get a motorcycle license in thailand is with one?.

I stay each year for 3 months at my friends place  in the chiang mai area and pretty much only ride around  there but with all the new talk of fines and confiscating scooters  i thought i should try and  do the right thing and maybe get the appropriate permit.... When i stay with her we do go to immigration and do the 24 hour  notice of address  so i am wondering  would it be possible to get one then or are they only available  for long term residence ? I only have a car license and IDP when i go there and  i am  happy to sit for the riding and written test  if its possible. A motorcycle/scooter license in Oz is 850 minimum plus the permit waiting period and x amount of days for testing is a bit of a hassle...but if this is the only way for a tourist to legally ride in thailand  then that is how it is and i would have to get one Oz. I am hoping there is an easier and less expensive alternative?  Any advice would be appreciated.

  12. I go to thailand for 3 months each year and cruise around on my friends scooter so now i am wondering how can i get a motorcycle license in thailand on a SETV when i cant even get a bank account? To get a motor scooter license in Oz you need to sit and pay for the exact same tests as a motorcyle license.. this is the breakdown....

Sit learners permit 430 which is a 2 day course...

After having permit for 3 months minimum you have to sit check ride test 230 which takes 3.5 hours

You then go back again and  sit the license assesment 200 which takes 1 hour.

I am also guessing you would need at least a scooter to go to the tests on and do some practice on...That is a major inconvenience of time and money just to ride a scooter..

Does anyone know if  there is any  way in thailand to get a motorcycle license on a  SETV ?????

I have car license and bring a IDP with me but not motorcycle license.....
