I did post this in a reply to a question about this topic but no one replied so i will start a new one.

When i arrive in febuary i will be staying at a friends place in ubon ratchitani for a month so my question is...

I know we need to inform the government of where i am staying within  24 hours so could some one please tell me...

Where do i go , who do i see and what do i  need to take with me in ubon?

An address would be great because my friend who i  am staying with mentioned that where we need to go is nearly 2 hours from the airport which to me doesnt sound right?

I thought it would be immigration at ubon?

This person is the house owner and will be coming with me.

Hi i need to jump in...

When i arrive in febuary im staying at my friends house for a month in ubon...

Question...to report that im staying there...where do i go , who am i seeing and what am i taking with me. An actual address would be great because My friend says the place i have to go is 2 hours from airport and i thought that doesnt sound right?

She is the owner of the house so will be with me.

Apologies ubon i wasnt specific with my dates  its Actually not a year and a half in the future...its next year wanting to re enter thailand mid may next year 2020 at a border crossing.  Passport expires jan 2021...thats 7 / 8 months left. 

I don't know if 6 months is 6 months or a grumpy IO might hassle me being so close to the 6 month mark ..im not an experienced traveler.

You get a 30 day entry. The 15 day rule was rescinded about 3 years ago.

Sorry guys i have to ask a couple of other questions cos i might have a different plan.

My passport expires jan 10 2021...

My 60 day visa plus 30 day extension will take me to may 4. 

On may 3 will i be able to go into laos for 2 weeks at a border crossing in ubon and then come back mid may and stay thailand 30 more days heading back to oz in mid June....will my passport have enough months left? I calculate going back into thailand mid may will leave 7 and a half months...

Also can i come back at a border crossing for 30 days or is it still 15?

Which is the best border crossing from ubon into laos?

I am from Australia.

I have changed my trip to thailand to feb on a 60 day tourist visa and will extend 1 month and my passport expires jan 10 2021... will there will be enough months left on my passport to arrive? It usually says that 6 months should be left on your passport but is that from the date of arrival or is it from the date the visa is issued? I will apply for visa in January 2020 which leaves 12 months left on passport, can someone confirm this is fine?

Also whats the process in renewing it in thailand as i am thinking of travelling asia for a few months after thailand.

Do you do it at the Australian embassy?

Whats the price?

And how long does it take?

I wont have the time to renew before i leave so any advice will be helpful.

Ok ubon so the form i get from the drivers license office is the form i get immigration/tourist police to stamp so i can then go and sit for the motorcycle license test.. correct?

sorry ubon im a bit confused... i dont have a motorcycle license only a car  but i want to sit for the test to get the motorcycle license  and i was told i need a certificate of residence to apply for that...if i take my car license to immigration / tourist police wont they see its for car only?

Does anyone know if you can get a certificate of residence if you only have a SETV?  I was told the only way to get a motorcycle license in thailand is with one?.

I stay each year for 3 months at my friends place  in the chiang mai area and pretty much only ride around  there but with all the new talk of fines and confiscating scooters  i thought i should try and  do the right thing and maybe get the appropriate permit.... When i stay with her we do go to immigration and do the 24 hour  notice of address  so i am wondering  would it be possible to get one then or are they only available  for long term residence ? I only have a car license and IDP when i go there and  i am  happy to sit for the riding and written test  if its possible. A motorcycle/scooter license in Oz is 850 minimum plus the permit waiting period and x amount of days for testing is a bit of a hassle...but if this is the only way for a tourist to legally ride in thailand  then that is how it is and i would have to get one Oz. I am hoping there is an easier and less expensive alternative?  Any advice would be appreciated. 

i come each year for 3 months and i saw a few posts about people on setv getting bank accounts so on a quick trip over to ubon  i thought i might try there. I went to 3 banks with a thai friend just in case i needed some quick talking wheeling and dealing and all 3 said no.. need work permit... maybe next time i will try in bangkok......maybe i wont ? actually i know i wont ? its too serious....i am curious as to why it is such a big deal, money in the bank is money in the bank? or does having a  peace of paper  suddenly make me special??... thats not fair i want to be special too...?
