It looks like it, doesn't it? Perhaps Australia and New Zealand news sources should publicize just who Thailand thinks is safe and who isn't.

Australia (like NZ, Singapore and even Thailand) with very few cases and thus no hurry to vaccinate will be disadvantaged under this scheme. Ironic that those countries who managed the virus well lose out.
I am also puzzled how these areas will work, can a Bangkokian visit Samui for a holiday and mingle? Surely that would punch a hole in the area containment strategy. Can anyone explain ?

They always treated me polite and fair. Perhaps you should check your behavior?

    What goes around, comes around.

I have always behaved politely and respectfully when dealing with immigration officers, as I do when dealing with anyone I encounter in customer service or at any time. I agree what goes around comes around, treat others as you wish to be treated. My experience in this country has always been positive with the exception of some rude, loud, obnoxious and self entitled falang behaving badly. I also remember visiting one of many ATM machines in the basement level (close to food outlets and photocopy service and photo taking service) and getting the baht I needed. Good luck to those who still need to obtain a visa, keep calm and cool, every problem seems to find a solution here.

And for the time being, Thailand is probably better off the way it is than, for example, emulating Australia's Victoria totalitarian nightmare...

The Australian situation was due to Am unplanned incident following poor judgement by an individual and arguably bad decisions surrounding the security at quarantine hotels.  it was not a consequence of any reopening plan so I don’t understand the relevance. It does show how easy one single error can result in a significant outbreak and widespread infection. I am sure even the experts in disease control are learning every day and rewriting the books and models.

  4. I have one account with Bank and that's my entire local banking existence. I have the same experience as the original post. I have since read the instructions and it is clear that if you add a new 3rd party account using iBanking it is not available on mBanking. You can not add a 3rd party acute using mBanking, so the only account available under 3rd party are those from back in early days when they did update to mBanking. You can not add and save a new account on mBanking, they suggest you use save/favourite but as detailed in this thread, you can not change the amount. The result is that you can not add and save a new 3rd party account to transfer to in mBanking, you have to enter the account details every time you do a transfer to that account, it won't even let you copy paste the account number, you must type it again. This means you have to record the 3rd party account number somewhere you can refer to every time you make a transfer to that account, because you will need to enter the number using the numeric keyboard displayed every time. I can not find any way to save an account for future use in mBanking. My solution is to keep a list of account numbers and payee names on a piece of paper so I can refer to them and enter them each time I need to do a transfer. It seems somewhere we have lost sight of the purpose of this technology, was it not in part to make our lives easier through improving efficiency and simplifying processing. Surely sending money to another account  is the most basic functionality of any mobile banking app. It is hard to believe BBank does not allow accounts to be saved and used again in future on their mobile banking app. If anyone knows of a way to do this then please post a reply.

    This is from BBank website:

    https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Digital-Banking/Bualuang-iBanking/3rd-Party-and-Payee-Accounts

3rd Party Accounts and Payee Accounts

Please be informed that 3rd Party Accounts and Payee Accounts added in Bualuang iBanking will not be displayed on Bualuang mBanking from May 4, 2020 onwards.

However, you can still make a transfer or payment conveniently as usual via Bualuang mBanking:

    • Transfer up to 2,000,000 baht by entering the account number on the mBanking application without needing to add an account on Bualuang iBanking before transferring. You can adjust your transfer limit for Bualuang mBanking by visiting any Bangkok Bank branch.
    • Pay your bills more easily by scanning barcodes / QR codes
    • Save your frequent transfers or payments as favorites to make your future transactions quicker

  5. The Italian numbers I have seen reported show most deaths are aged 70+ and the concentration of deaths In Australia and Some other countries are in aged care homes. I suggest the population age in general and how the aged are cared for plays a big part in the death rate. Western cultures such as Australia and the US tend to put the elderly in nursing homes, Once the virus is in these institutions then spread through out is rapid. Asian cultures tend to keep their elderly at home with the family, so there is no concentrated housing of aged people. This could slow the time it takes for the virus to reach each of the older aged group. Hopefully, with distancing and care, The path to this group is blocked and the death count in Thailand never reaches the levels seen in Italy. I Also agree Accurate reporting and standard of health care are 2 significant variables in both the reported case rate and death rate.

  6. Just sayin’, from someone who only comes here to find or share facts and useful information, it would be easier without the Topic irrelevant posts. There are better places to share opinions and play your games. To save a barrage of more irrelevant posts, I stand pre-chastised Many times over and I apologies for this addition to the irrelevant post tally.

  7. I am travelling from Bali to BKK via KLIA today on Australian passport with retirement visa, having visited Indonesia, Australia (and Malaysia?) in last 14 days. My take on the new requirements for quarantine and need for TM.8 form completed on AoT app is that it is not applicable as I have not visited one of the listed 18 countries. Can anyone who arrived in the last 2 days confirm my understanding and add any comment on how it’s handled at the airport

    Yes.

Keep in mind, if short holiday is possible, you could consider obtaining the non o outside of Thailand. Skips obtaining your extension to VE and conversion from VE to non O at imm. Check if Saigon does non o retirement. Ripper place.

I have obtain a Non Immi O visa (to be used for retirement visa) at the Thai Embassy in Yangon, they are very efficient and its usually a short/inexpensive flight. If you lodge your application before 12 noon you can collect your visa the next day after 1pm. Queues are usually short in my experience and the staff check your application before accepting it so any issues can be sorted before processing your application. Great service!

I just PM-ed you a comprehensive Roadmap outlining all details/options to switch from (an extension of) a Non Imm OA - retirement Visa to a Non Imm O - retirement Visa.

Of course all info already provided by UbonJoe in posts above are fully correct (as always).

Can also e-mail it to you when you provide me your e-mail address.

Hi Peter, I am in a similar situation, would you mind sending me your roadmap, I could use the guidance and would like to check my approach before submitting my documents. I would really appreciate your assistance, thanks in advance.

  10. Thought I would share a DHL promotion I just stumbled onto. I booked a 4XL (H+W+L=200cm) 18kg delivery from Bangkok to Samui using DHL Domestic Web Portal at the flat promo rate of Baht 10, box arrived next day. Hard to believe, so I booked a second box, same flat rate Baht 10. The rate is a start up promo for the web portal so make sure you use the right channel. Flat 10 baht rate applies to any size parcel from small to 4XL. Great way to avoid Bangkok Airways excess baggage limit. I am sure it won't last long.
