Yawn, another doom and gloom merchant!

Which expats lost everything, where, how?

A 50% drop in housing value, where, how?

    Links and proof, not rhetoric!

How embarrassing . You really had no idea and here you are giving advice on TV lol

    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2010/mar/02/detroit-homes-mortgage-foreclosures-80

Oops there goes your credibility and it was only a 3 sec google search. tens of thousands of expats gave the same advice ..never buy in Thailand and in the meantime completely forgot about there own backyards. I had to laugh as it was a good cull !

You overemphasise the role of bargirls with foreign sponsors whilst mentioning nothing of the socioeconomic options available to many rural people. The fact is there are not many options available to poor and mostly uneducated rural families, working for a large corporation is not an option, working in any company is not an option unless they are young and the family is connected, working in government is not an option unless degree'ed. That leaves 7/11, a stall somewhere, the fields in the scorching sun or Beach Road and similar. Having a business of their own is nirvana for most so they will do anything to try and make it successful.

And yes they should stick to chicken soup stalls. Calculating chicken and rice bought and sold isn't rocket science, no electricity, no phones, no rent ... But get one of them to open a hairdresser without spending all of the takings from day one is another story . A 7/11 has a better chance since they are buying into a franchise model along with all the training that goes with it..bit like maccas really

Rent. And invest your money. More freedom and better investments out there. And I think a big housing dump aboutvto hit worldwide as 8nterest rates and gas prices increase.

You forgot about 2008? Global meltdown saw thousands of expats lose everything and for many a double whammy of a 50% drop in their OS house value and rental income gone plus raped by the stock market.

Sure the markets are liquid but that works both ways !!!

What kind of idiot pays 30k for a condo per month? Im amazed how people know the cost of everything but value of nothing. Meaning the costs to build these snap together condos is next to nothing per condo. Chicks probably a drug dealer/user.

"What kind of idiot pays 30k for a condo per month"

Because not everyone is a loser living in a crappy fan room shoe box?

  5. The property market has been crashing for 20 years if you believe the busted arsed  pensioners here forced to live in a crappy fan room shoe box because of the "cheap rent"

oh and dont forget no body sells for a profit. Every sale is a 50% loss ?

Buy your home and be the master of your domain. Furnish it beautifully! or do what the poor people do and rent living on Thai cardboard furniture, vinyl sofa, concrete mattress and 10 year old TV and getting ripped off for the security deposit ...How did the renters screw up so bad in life to end up in that scenario  ?

    Love the judgements.

    But you know what?

It was THEIR wedding. They knew what they were getting and clearly got it.

No doubt Betty did too. She was known to be fond of a bit of ole Billy Graham.

But I’ll hand it back to the rest of youse to continue with the peanut gallery assessments.

On to more important things. Lady Kitty Spencer and Amal Clooney get my vote for best dressed..

.... "the quality of people improved immensely in Chiang Mai. I’m specifically  referring to Thai folk." ......

Thank you for these words. My Surat Thani, Thai ladyfriend accompanied me to Chiang Mai for a couple of weeks. She was previously well travelled but had never been north of Bkk. After being in CM a couple days, she said to me "it feels totally different here, the people are so much friendlier".

Well traveled but not north of BKK as a native? think she pulled one over you there fella. Even so Im surprised she would make that comment coming from Surat Thani

JAG, you are clearly a man with a good heart but I think you are being naive here. Thaksin has always been into domination, eliminating any competition. He did that in the mobile phone market and applied the same principles to politics, buying up any rivals- NAP,, 79 MPs for example.

He applied the same principles to the media - any newspaper, TV station that did not support him were deprived of state advertising.

As regards checks and balances, he stacked his men in every independent agency that he could.

He would never have given up power. He has never apologised for anything he has done- the killing of innocents in the drug war, the deaths in Tak Bai, the economic stupidity of the 15,000 baht rice programme. Not a word of contrition,

    a sign of a egomaniac.

Thaksin would prefer Thailand destroyed itself by infighting rather than give up the Shinawats' claim to political power.

If he really loved Thailand he would withdraw the Shinawat family entirely from politics whilst setting up an ongoing fund to develop and prosper grassroots democracy in Thailand.

    Nailed it !!

Good for you.  I go to Pattaya less than before, had my fill of all that starting in the 80s and 90s.  Last trip, stayed in a nice little resort next to Lake Maprachan.  Good chow, swimming pool, bar, no elevators, couple of maidens about who figured out I wasn't a potential customer, and it was all good after that.  Guess I'm well and truly ruined from living upcountry.

Breezes over land and water are the same basic principle.  I was just out on my front patio, nice breeze blowing in from the South/Southwest.

Breezes are not the same inland as they are by the sea. As an ex pilot who has more than a passing interest in the weather ..trust me or just google why sea breezes are predominant, its all pretty logical and should be taught at school probably

  10. Not sure what that means but we are both ex customers. That's the whole point!
Any way I'm still looking for a non fantasy explanation of how dudes living in a village get a breeze?

    Another satisfied ex-customer, eh?  LOL!
  11. Are you thai? If not why does thai killing thai effect you unless you're the very sensative type.

I've lived on several of the islands for more than ten years and tasted most of their food. Never got food poisoning there; had it twice here, go figure. While it is true Filipino food lacks imagination; there are some good dishes--I like sisig, bulalo, pinakbet and a morning favorite, refrying last night's left-over rice with garlic, tocino, egg and a left-over from the Spanish, pan de sol.

As my previous post said, "Thailand has the highest reported rate of gun-related deaths in Southeast Asia - almost 50 percent more gun homicides than the Philippines."
  12. ha ha a lot of guys living in their wifes house near a jungle trying to convince condo owners they have a lovely breeze lol.

Im on the 18th floor seaside in danger of being sucked off the balcony (no pun) when there is the slightest breeze.

Dont see how you ground floor jungle dwellers can beat that!
