  1. A heads up regarding the e passbook bank accounts which some banks now offer...

I put my visa money in one of these and had a bit of difficulty today using it to change from non b to non o. The problem stemmed from the e passbook not having the statement pages detailing transactions which my other bank books have.

I had the statement from the bank and the letter but they also wanted to verify this against the book which with an e book is literally just a bank book cover showing account details.

Luckily the officer kindly processed the application but I wouldn't risk it again.

  2. Yes that was correct until Covid came along and the government reduced the amount workers and I think employers pay.

As you say it used to be employee pays 750. Employer pays 750

Sometime last year the rate was reduced. I want to know what month it was reduced and how much it was reduced by or ideally if there is an official document somewhere - I get different dates and amounts on a google search.

Some employers have not passed these reductions onto their employees and still charge them 750baht SSO when some months it should have been 75baht.

  3. Morning. The government made reductions to the SSO contributions that employees and maybe employers needed to make. Assuming they are part of the system.

These reductions seemed to start in October going down from 750b a month to 300. And some months as low as 75b. Presently it seems we are at 500b a month.

Are the same reductions also applied to the employer?

Is there anything in the Royal Gazette or other publication that details what reductions have been applied and when and for how much longer this will continue?

I am asking as an employee.

  4. I have a 1 year old born out of wedlock. I have been legitimized as the father by court order giving me and the mum equal custody and parental powers.

Our relationship has failed and we need to seperate. I am prepared to give her some cash for sole custody and parental powers. We have verbally agreed on this and also her visitation rights. Is there a legally binding way to get this actioned without going to court?

I read that you can transfer custody and parental powers to one parent at the registration office when you are getting divorced by way of Memorandum of Divorce assuming everything is mutually agreed. Is there such a legal document or legally recognised framework in place for when a child is born out of wedlock but each parent has equal custody and then want to transfer custody solely to the other parent without having to go to court?

  5. Yes i just used the website and not my phone and have managed to do it.

There will be two fees to pay, the initial fee to convert from original currency and then when you want to forward it from transferwise to your thai account they make another (smaller) fee.

You can get around this i presume if you use the transferwise bank card and thus don't need to forward it to a thai bank account? I'm not sure.

I think still best to convert and sent straight to Thai bank. Not sure what advantage in keeping it in Transferwise??

I have been 'building up' a THB balance in my Borderless Account, Bht 20,000 here and there whenever the rate seems good so that on 20-22nd when I do my monthly transfer, I already have the THB ready. I would have expected that to be quickest, but obviously not. But as we say, plan ahead and no worries. Cheers Laza.

I'm looking how to do this but am struggling.

I currently have one recipient - my scb account here

On my transferwise account, shows green card and last 4 digits when inthe app, when i click bank details to get the needed sort code and account number to add a new account. Thailand isn't list as an available currency. I only have

    GBP

    Singapore

    Romanian

    Euro

    AUD

    USA

    New Zealand

Did you use one of these or do you have to ask to get Thai style account details?

  7. Can tax on a monthly paying interest account not be stopped at source. I thought it could, providing you are under the 20k interest earnt threshold. But i am struggling to get my bank to do this.

I have a tax ID and papers from the local revenue office.

My bank will give me a breakdown of interest earnt which i then take to the revenue office who process the claim manually but it would be better for me if it was done at source!

  8. My burmese nanny is returning to her hotel job and i am going to need a new one come Monday. Does anyone know of anyone needing a job. Looking after my 1 year old daughter Monday to Saturday from 7am till 5pm

It would be great if they could start before Monday.

Based in Chalong Bay by the pier.

  9. I have an older benz and service it myself. The WIS and EPC main dealer software which tell you how to fix the vehicle is online now they have switched to Xentry. B M Autoparts in bangkok is where i get all the parts from. They are great. Mercedes wanted 19000 for the drag link. These guys did it for 6000. Same Lemforder part, same part number. Parts ordered before 3pm over nighted to Phuket.

But I got the car cheap. If I was buying again I would get an older crown or LS400.

  10. You should've been given a pink book detailing lose do's and don'ts by the Thai hospital and also when to go for vaccinations etc. It is available in English but I had to ask for it. You can read it together. There was another one the hospital gave us, White cover and only in Thai but lots of pictures again showing do's and don'ts. Because it is Thai maybe she will trust it more. I was impressed with the content. This was from a government hospital.

I have 9 month old daughter, my First child. It is natural to be very protective.

No proof you are the legal father of your child is needed in Penang. Perhaps confusion with getting a one year extension of stay.

All you need is proof of 400k baht in the bank on the day you apply. Your updated bank book and copies of it would be enough.

    Is this still the case?

My work contract is coming to an end in March and I will lose my Non B Visa / Work permit. It is not yet clear when I will start working again.

I have a Thai girlfriend and a daughter.

Can I get a Non O based on Thai Child without being married to buy me sometime whilst we decide what to do. I have 400k in a Thai Bank account and I am named on the birth certificate but I am not married so no marriage certificate.

  12. I am in a similar boat too chaps. I am currently on non b with work permit but will stop working in March and will need a new visa to stay here with my family. I have a thai daughter and girlfriend but i am not married.

My options as i see them are to get married and get an extension on based on marriage or to go this route with multientry and have to leave every 90 days but not get married.

There was a thread on here recently where a poster got the 1 year multientry based on Thai child in Penang and he said he had to show proof of 400k.

  13. I am going through this at the moment and have opted to use an agent. This is because i live in Phuket and would need to take time off to travel to Bangkok to the british embassy.

  14. I would like to change my visa from non b with work permit to non o based on marriage and need some advice regarding the monthly deposits. Looking at my monthly deposits for the last 12 months I total over 900,000 baht. However, for 2 months (April and August) I only received 14700 and 28500. The other 10 months are over the 40000k threshold.

These deposits are a combination of a Thai wage which is 30000 baht per month and from funds transferred overseas.

Can I still use these deposits to meet the financial requirement despite 2 months being below the 40k threshold?

  15. I am also in Penang and used Jim's services. He doesn't attend embassy what best b says above is currently correct. It was worth the 600baht for me for the document checking service. Neither myself nor my employer were aware of the latest home country police requirement needing to be certified by home country embassy.
