Political Freedom, oh puhleeze!
That's like saying you actually have free speech in Thailand
Welcome to Thai(LaLa)landThere is no country left with freedom of speech. Look at many western and Northern European countries where the freedom of speech have been stolen Step by step every year.
in uk,Germany,Sweden, Norway and many other countries you can be jailed for just saying something not political correct about Muslims, migrants or black people, but if you are Muslim, migrant or black you can say whatever you want about native citizens.
Thailand, are like this because of the junta.
i have to laugh everytime a <deleted> on this forum criticizing Thailand for being i undemocratic, don’t have freedom of speech or is not a free country, but their home country at least within EU where democracy have been stolen from every nation step by step, countries cracking down on free speech, EU regulations on everything and makes the life complicated and unfree.
mecca of the stupid.

What really amaze me are those people from a EU country complain about democracy in Thailand.

Sadly, us farangs are dreamers for a better democratic society benefiting the people.
Yes I which the end of EU and every Europe’s can live in a democratic country like USA, Canada , Australia and New Zealand.
we don’t need open borders, common currency, the parliament in Brussels and unelected bureaucrats.
we can still collaborate together, trade with each other etc etc without EU.

Agree. In regard to Thanathorn:
- I understand he speaks good English.
- I understand he has a couple of masters degrees.
- Is his education outside of Thailand? IMHO this point could 'make the difference'. I doubt that even well educated Thais, who have never studies / lived 'outside' for at least a few years really understand what 'democracy' means in western terms. (But I'm not suggesting that 'western democracy' is perfect).
Some years back I often had lunch with a Thai professor who taught political science (he spoke perfect English but had never been outside of Thailand for more than short holidays and he had no education abroad).
He liked to talk about Thai politics, his understanding of democracy was completely different than my understanding of democracy. His version is 'PM should be a rich man to give everybody cash etc.., and the voters should listen and do as they are told.'
He just didn't listen to any discussion points about the electorate having rights, and responsibilities. His response; 'a waste of time and not needed'.
He brushed aside my summation of what democracy means (to me) and the pillars of building and maintaining democracy. Other western professors who shared the lunch room tried to share their thoughts with him, he didn't listen, at all.
This is why I wonder if Khun Thanathorn has had longer-term immersion in western democracy? Or is his version of democracy the same as we have already seen?
In USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia democracy means democracy, so what you are saying in western terms does not include members of the European Union, which is undemocratic.

There are so many dangerous radical lefties on this forum.
most comments are from 2 kinds of people.

ASEAN doomed as long as Thailand takes the chair. Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore have strong condemnation of the genocide and asked for strong action by UN. Malaysia went as far as calling out that fake Aung San Suu Kyi for her silence in not condemning her government.
Because Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia are Muslims countries of course, that’s why, Muslims backs Muslims.
every brits, France people, Germans and Swedish should know what kind of people many Muslims are, those countries I mention has big problems with Muslims, ignore it and you are in denial.

yes there are pros and cons about it, the cons is if you injure yourself then pay the bill your and swallow the cons.
nobody any where in the world should be told use safety gear.
but we see more and more all over the world the government telling their citizens how to dress and what to do.

The others agreed to it is because their level of stupidity is on par with this driver.
Most people that are taking vans are those without a brain and want to arrive fast.
i know many Thais that won’t enter a van because they simply are dangerous drivers behind the wheel

At first....there are out in the world 2 images of Thailand : great landscape and islands, great food and also great people
But the other image is corruption, dirty beaches, dangerous for travelling on the roads and by boat,
stupid behavior and aggressive peoole if you confront them with their bad habit....
So Thai people have to stop with this stupid "loose face" and stand up against bad and dangerous behaviour. Have civil courage what we get tought from childhood but that's mostly missing in Thai society
That loose face attitude have arrived to the West.
people cannot accept they are wrong.
Lose face is a part of Asia, not only Thailand. One day off you can afford travel, you will soon realize that.

What an arrogant statement.
Why don't you go out and ask a few Thai people on the streets whether they share your opinion that 80,000 baht net income per month is "hardly over the top"?
An income of 2,100 euros in Europe may be rather on the low side. But here in Thailand it isn't. I would dare say there are few locals upcountry who can boast such a salary.
But coming back to Udom: He basically grew up in Thailand, speaks the language fluently, supports a wife and child, has integrated well and (so I assume) lives a rather simple life on a modest Thai income. For all intents and purposes, he has become a local.
If the only excuse the Thai government deploys in denying him his citizenship is the outrageous requirement that he must prove three consecutive years of taxed monthly incomes that are a multiple of what the average citizen earns, then it only goes to show the contempt Thailand's authorities have for foreigners, whom they obviously only see as milking cows.
If European countries used the same sole yardstick, demanding that Thai people who wanted to gain citizenship had to show taxed incomes that are three or four times higher than what an average European employee makes, there hardly would be any Thai people living in Europe at all, no matter how well adapted and integrated they may have become.
And guess who would be first to raise a ruckus over such "unfair" or "racist" treatment? Exactly, it would be the Thai government!
You are wrong.
the average salary in European countries after tax “EURO”
Europe isn’t a country, and it will never be, the difference from country to country omg Europe are huge, so speak for the whole continent is only lack of geographical knowledge.

2000 euro a month
Hardly over the top. There are rules and if you wish to be one a citizen then you follow them.
2000 euro a month is more then the average income in most European countries after tax, so it’s ridiculous.

The ones lives under 45,000 baht are the cheap Charlie brits, who complain and try to bargain on everything..
if you need more, tell your government to stop wasting money on Muslims and immigrants,so you can get a decent pension to live off.
i have brit “friend” he is super cheap, never gives back money I lend to him, never pay for a drinking round, lives like a rat, but his pension is tiny.
So now we know why they are miserable. 555
NB! I’m talking about the older generation, the younger generation, they are not afraid to spend money and have fun ?

Are thaivisa a platform for miserable/frustrated farang?
don’t get me wrong the help you get here from the thaivisa section etc har a good thing, but all the other sections like pattaya news, Bangkok news, farang-pub-drunk-sexpat forum the seems to have many miserable people or are they frustrated, they complain about everything, don’t you have money to spend so you are sitting here all day comment on every topic?
if you are unhappy start with yourself, only you can change yourself.
now the poor miserable people will make fun of I’m telling the truth, you guys know very well who you are.
1.you stay in the country and should move
2.you are a regular tourist, start go somewhere else.
3.if you aren’t a visitor anymore to Thailand, leave this forum, hang on the forum you are a visitor to.
Positive people have a nice day! and those negative, miserable and pessimistic start correct yourself.

25,000 baht a month? More like 7-8000 baht according to my wife.
Minimum wage is 325 baht a day, 7 hours work, 5 days a week MINIMUM WAGE!!! with a degree it’s 15,000 baht a month.
what makes me laugh is all the farang keep saying the whole nation are living on 9000 baht a month, wich is wrong there are roughly 25million cars on the here, a person with a minimum wage could not afford that, that just show how misinformed the average expat”expert” is.
your wife says that , maybe she only know the hookers in pattaya bars.
i know plenty of that earn 25,000 with normal office job nothing special wich easy earn the double with overtime and commission, it time the average farang in this country get educated and stop thinking he knows everything.
