  1. The score dropped but the rank improved. Therefore in absolute terms its performance dropped. Nothing to be proud of!
  2. A slight problem here. The photo is of Mr Somchai Swangkarn chairman of the Senate committee on human rights, freedom, liberties, and consumer protection. Nothing to do with ex-Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn. The Bangkok Post article only refers to the comments as coming from Mr Somchai Swangkarn. There is no mention in the Bangkok Post article of Somchai Srisutthiayorn.
  3. I am pretty sure it was. S 112 is the big issue.
  4. "This move could greatly simplify travel for Thai citizens within the Schengen Area, pending approval from other Schengen states, thanks in part to Italy's clout as the current president of the G7." - G7 has nothing to do with EU! Dreams go on and on and on. Maybe time for a Schengen visa hub!
  5. The European Union negotiates free trade deals on behalf of all of its member states, as the member states have granted the EU has an "exclusive competence" to conclude trade agreements.
  6. also same old story about visa free entry to EU. What planet do these people live on.
  7. As a further adjunct note that we are now getting generic photos and unsourced stories! Before every story was sourced with name of the "author".
  8. Spot on comment from Dinsdale. I check who "writes" the article. And look for "in related news" or similar that appears at the bottom of many articles. Even apparent native English-speaking writers have caught the bug of using "tautology" and other nonsense, so a news story of 25% news and 75% extraneous nonsense. I edit some academic journals and would reject articles outright that included such an approach. They have forgotten the old adage, "Keep in simple stupid". There appears to be no fact checking such as Duriant travelling across Thailand, Laos and China by rail - an impossibility. I just checked the article appeared in the China Daily Global on 1 April 2024 and it makes it quite clear that the train trip occurred "in April last year". Oor the photos yesterday of Thai Airways retiring its 747 with a photo of a two engine plane. The quality has certainly dropped off over the last few years.
  9. I have been returning to my home country annually for a new spouse visa - not an extension. All I produce at consulate- general is application, proof of marriage, letter from the wife, passport and pay the fee. No bank account details required. The Embassy in each country must abide by the basic rules and may apply additional rules - this even applies now that you can get an electronic visa. In my home country the Embassy applies the basic rules only.
  10. The quality of reporting on ASEANNOW is really dropping off a cliff. It's as if the reporters have swallowed a dictionary and need to use as many words as possible. A lot of the reporting, in my opinion, is over the top, making news reports essentially out of thin air.
  11. I have recently researched the legal framework with colleagues, and regardless of what Anutin says he did legalise recreational cannabis use. (See Clause 1(3) in the attached Notification) He had a policy without a plan. Our recommendation is that if they want to recriminalize possession adopt the Netherlands model. You cannot put the genie back into the bottle! 20220208 Notifcation Nac 5 2565.pdf
  12. I would have thought that Ramadan is not the time for Muslims to travel, particularly with eating and drinking restrictions. Compound this with the hot Thai climate.
  13. In Australia, Thais are part of the select nationalities that enter via the automatic gate as the visa are all electonic. On departure everyone goes through the automatic gate. Why not reciprocal rights in Thailand?
  14. I agree. A ridiculous article. People are not happy but they cannot say anything or they too go to gaol. It is hard to know who to trust, if you are a Thai and would like to discuss this topic! There are still a lot of people who strongly support the views of the Court.
