  1. CLW, I like your plan.  Maybe take Chiang Khong - Phu Chee Fah in the last days,

But there is one BIG Problem. The weeks before and the week after Song Kran are dangerous on the roads in Thailand and on a motorbike very dangerous.

You will have people, sometimes quite drunk, everywhere standing beside the road throwing water on you. And the worst are the pickups with 4-8 drunk guys throwing buckets on meeting bikes, sometimes with blocks of ice.  Very dangerous and lots of accidents.

Me and my friends are on bikes year around except these weeks.

  2. Maybe you have met one or two in your life before . . .

Ten things you might not know about psychopaths:
    1. They do not blink as often as other people and have a stare or intense gaze. This gives psychopaths a penetrating look that can be perceived as fascinating.
    2. Many psychopaths are additionally narcissists and therefore has a very strong self-perception and a strange view of their abilities.
    3. Psychopaths can be very difficult to detect because they are true chameleons and quickly turns coat after the wind.
    4. Many or most of the studies on psychopaths have been implemented in US prisons and this has given rise to the image of the psychopath as a criminal. Hollywood movies are also responsible for spreading the image of the psychopathic mass murderer. In fact there are very few psychopaths in prison, most of them live among us - ready to exploit us in any way ...
    5. Psychopaths take the easy road in life and feel entitled to material rewards, success in life, or sexual pleasure, which they acquire through manipulation, lies and threats. Therefore, they are social predators .
    6. They know the difference between right and wrong but they are utility oriented - and do not think the rules are there for them. They have no feelings of guilt, shame and empathy. Psychopaths lacks in fact strong feelings of all kinds - they may for example pretending to be madder than they actually are.
    7. Studies have shown that non-criminal psychopaths can become police officers, lawyers, soldiers, politicians, surgeons and businessmen. They seek out positions of power in society and capable to keep out of trouble if they violate laws and norms thanks to a social network.
    8. Psychopaths realize already as a child that they are different, but they can form an opinion about others that they are the ones that are incorrect. They can, for example, believe that everyone plays roles and they are therefore very good at pretending.
    9. A series of behaviors that are considered psychopathic has to do with the upbringing and education. Most people who end up in prison iare not psychopaths. In fact, they have either adapted to or learned to survive in a hostile environment.
    10. The psychopat has a dark vision of the world and the people in it. They are convinced that the people at heart are evil. In addition, psychopaths have none or just a little sense of humor. They are smart and learn to recognize the joke; they are not funny and does not see the point of humor, but they can still be entertaining thanks to the personal charm they exude, and the strong feelings they can evoke in us ordinary people.

  3. Last night Thai time, 10,25 am US time, our good friend Pat Smasne passed away in a hospital in Washington state.

Pat has lived here in Chiang Rai the last 10 years and before that he lived some years in Loei province.

Pat was a special guy and a very good guy. We, his friends will miss him very much!

    RIP Pat !

  4. Yes you can; I've crossed at Tha Li several times as it's my closest crossing. A good crossing point as there's little traffic; the port is still under construction and off the tourist route. I was the only one crossing each time; over into Lao and back very quickly, no queues. A Tuk Tuk will take you both ways, 40 baht each way. Visa on arrival at both sides.

    Cheers

Is it possible to cross with your own car/mc into Laos too? That would be great!

  5. I normally don't go into this forum but today I make an exception.

I got a mail from my very good friend Joakim in Chivit Thamma Da today:

"Two large dogs, looks like a golden mix, floated past the cafe last night, completely exhausted after fighting the strong current. After about 30 minutes in the boat we managed to get one, just when he was going under. The other one managed to cross on to the other side and we think should be ok. Looked for it this morning but couldnt find it. What a night!

We have posted pics on fb and checked with all neighbours but so far no luck. He has no identification but looks like in good health, shocked and scared of course but seems well cared for.

If you hear about someone missing a pair of goldens please let me know. The other one was larger maybe a brother/sister or mother/father.

    Cheers Joakim"

If you or if you heard someone lost their dogs yesterday then contact Chivit Thamma Da

  6. How do they know that the dead guy was the swedish guy? Because he had the swedish guys passport in a pocket?

    And his friend identified him?

And now the search for him for murder in Spain is over.

"“We can confirm that he is dead and that relatives have been informed” says Carolina Ekéus, press officer at the National Police. “He entered Thailand on July 17 and found dead on July 21″.

"Police say he hanged himself at a house in northern Thailand and left a 2-page letter in Swedish confessing to the killing. The Thai authorities say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Wallengren’s death."

"The Thai police spokesman Voraporn confirmed yesterday that there is no indication of fowl play and his body has been sent to Bangkok for a post-mortem examination."

Reading how he treated his ex-girlfriend in Sweden then I don't think that this guy has killed himself.

So my question is, how has the Thai police identified the guy that they found dead?

  7. If I go on a motorbike trip to Nan and I want to tell my friends in Chiang Rai about the trip can I post photos in that thread or

shall all photos be in the pinned Photo thread?

We have never had so many photos posted in such a short time!

I really don't understand the problem that you see here that have caused you to close all threads with photos.

Another nail in the coffin I would say.

  8. This is a very good thread. I appreciate you making it.

Me too, first time I've seen this one and very impressed! How long have you lived here svenivan? Hopefully quite a few years so they'll be lots more pictures to come smile.png

Some of your 'sky' pics are on a par with krobert6, you guys thought about doing an exhibition?

Thank you for your nice wordsrolleyes.gif

I have been here more than 10 years and have maybe 15 000 photos so that will be enough for a long time.

And I take new photos as often as I can.

There was an exhibition 5 - 6 years ago with maybe 10 Farangs and 5 - 6 Thai people in the National museum in Chiang Saen.

Something about " How do you see Chiang Rai province". It moved to the Mae Fah Luang place opposite where you go in to

Chiang Rai Country Home after a month or so. Yes, I was one of the Farangs and had maybe 10 photos hanging there.

It was the former moderator in Chiang Rai Forum, Limbo, that started this exhibition together with Alliance Francaise .

  9. Can other people join this thread, or should I start my own?

    What cameras are you using?

    Love the photos, btw!

    I use a Canon 1ds mark III with a 24-70 2.8 L series lens and a 70-200 2.8 L series IS.

My current camera is a bit crappy. I'm thinking of getting that new Sony compact with the Zeiss lens. It's about 20,000 Baht.

Do you know anything about this? I've seen some great reviews.

I prefer the idea of smaller cameras that offer superior quality and can shoot in RAW.

    Hi modem,

    Welcome to the forum.

It is not much about the camera, more about the person behind.

I am into my Sony nbr 4 and I have the RX100 on my list to Santa.

Check the photos on this site: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=4900621122191&set=o.448694495152805&type=1&theater

And don't forget, it is about having fun like we have here in Chiang Rai Forum!

  11. Interesting!!! ...

Well when I sent a Sony "pocket" camera back to Sony, under warranty, via my local shop here on Samui, it took Sony in BKK nearly six months to fix the problem (not really sure what it was ).... Sony attempted to ask for money, in the process, which I refused to pay (nearly as much as a new camera sad.png ) ... The local shop made numerous calls to find out where things where at, over that period....

Finally it came back, worked for about a week, and died again.... never another Sony product of any kind for me... bah.gif

I've always found Canon service to to be efficient and comes back working thumbsup.gif

I am sorry to hear that. It seem to be a problem with Sony service. As I said before, this is my Sony camera number four and once I had a problem

and had the camera sent to BKK but it came back within a month and is still working.

I hope I have the same luck with the new camera. They give 3 months warranty on the repair!

  12. Do you think you could try one simple post without the digs and snide remarks? It really isn't all that difficult. Try the following next time.

    Kebab in Chiang Rai !

Yes, you can find it in Night Bazaar with the Yellow tables.

They have 5 different tastes and all based on chicken.

It cost 50 baht and the ones I tried were really nice!

It is nice to get a bite that reminds of old times, going home in the middle of the night, drunk.gif

stopping at a Donner Kebab place, to get a spicy, sauce dripping Kebab that always tasted more!

Just as a friendly reminder, it is also considered polite and friendly to followup once you have started a topic. Ones responsibility does not stop after the first post and some OPs have been stewarding threads for multiple years.

  13. You should know that in Chiang Rai forum we not only have moderators to keep the forum nice and tidy, we also have

a local "Forum Policeman" that helps you by telling you how to write, how not to write and when to write!

So welcome to the nice, and shall we say, "Family Friendly" Chiang Rai Forum and welcome to Chiang Rai!
