Yes you can; I've crossed at Tha Li several times as it's my closest crossing. A good crossing point as there's little traffic; the port is still under construction and off the tourist route. I was the only one crossing each time; over into Lao and back very quickly, no queues. A Tuk Tuk will take you both ways, 40 baht each way. Visa on arrival at both sides.

I normally don't go into this forum but today I make an exception.

I got a mail from my very good friend Joakim in Chivit Thamma Da today:

"Two large dogs, looks like a golden mix, floated past the cafe last night, completely exhausted after fighting the strong current. After about 30 minutes in the boat we managed to get one, just when he was going under. The other one managed to cross on to the other side and we think should be ok. Looked for it this morning but couldnt find it. What a night!

We have posted pics on fb and checked with all neighbours but so far no luck. He has no identification but looks like in good health, shocked and scared of course but seems well cared for.

If you hear about someone missing a pair of goldens please let me know. The other one was larger maybe a brother/sister or mother/father.

So my question is, how has the Thai police identified the guy that they found dead?

I have been here more than 10 years and have maybe 15 000 photos so that will be enough for a long time.

And I take new photos as often as I can.

There was an exhibition 5 - 6 years ago with maybe 10 Farangs and 5 - 6 Thai people in the National museum in Chiang Saen.

Something about " How do you see Chiang Rai province". It moved to the Mae Fah Luang place opposite where you go in to

Chiang Rai Country Home after a month or so. Yes, I was one of the Farangs and had maybe 10 photos hanging there.

It was the former moderator in Chiang Rai Forum, Limbo, that started this exhibition together with Alliance Francaise .

I use a Canon 1ds mark III with a 24-70 2.8 L series lens and a 70-200 2.8 L series IS.

My current camera is a bit crappy. I'm thinking of getting that new Sony compact with the Zeiss lens. It's about 20,000 Baht.

Do you know anything about this? I've seen some great reviews.

I prefer the idea of smaller cameras that offer superior quality and can shoot in RAW.

Well when I sent a Sony "pocket" camera back to Sony, under warranty, via my local shop here on Samui, it took Sony in BKK nearly six months to fix the problem (not really sure what it was ).... Sony attempted to ask for money, in the process, which I refused to pay (nearly as much as a new camera ) ... The local shop made numerous calls to find out where things where at, over that period....

Finally it came back, worked for about a week, and died again.... never another Sony product of any kind for me...

I've always found Canon service to to be efficient and comes back working

I am sorry to hear that. It seem to be a problem with Sony service. As I said before, this is my Sony camera number four and once I had a problem

and had the camera sent to BKK but it came back within a month and is still working.

I hope I have the same luck with the new camera. They give 3 months warranty on the repair!

Kebab in Chiang Rai !

Yes, you can find it in Night Bazaar with the Yellow tables.

They have 5 different tastes and all based on chicken.

It cost 50 baht and the ones I tried were really nice!

It is nice to get a bite that reminds of old times, going home in the middle of the night,

stopping at a Donner Kebab place, to get a spicy, sauce dripping Kebab that always tasted more!

Sounds like an auto repair and paint job that I waited 10 months for and finally accepted before it was totally finished, paying full contract price, of course.

Do you or anyone if they make the new Cybershot RX100 in Thailand? It sells for at least $100 more here than the US.

I got my camera back yesterday and what I can see so far it is working OK.

Someone replied in My Sony Thailand Facebook page like this:

" I believe it's part of the BOI agreement with the government. Sony get the privileges with taxes to set up a factory and import all equipments,

parts, to produce the cameras, however, they must export everything outside of the country under the agreement to protect the local industries.

For local sales, then they can import them back again with proper taxes. So they can't just walk into the Ayudhya factory and grab some parts.

However the reason they don't import and prepare some parts in advance for a quicker service is what I would call poor.

Sony Thailand can't do anything though, the decision and policy are all up to the regional HQ in Singapore, the big boss.

You should direct your complaint towards Sony Singapore for some changes to really happen. "

So that is the reason this repair took long time and it is probably the reason why cameras produced in Thailand are more expensive to buy here

in Thailand than in US.

If you buy the RX100 I hope you report here how you like it. It seem to be a very good camera that you always can have in your pocket so you don't miss any shots.
