  1. This thread and all the posts should be made compulsory reading for all government depts and police districts throughout Thailand. Every word should be translated into Thai and posted on large billboards at the side of motorways, like the movie. Outside consultants from countries familiar with what obeying the law means should be brought in and given carte blanche to conduct a root and branch dissemination of the current regime, and issue court proceedings for corruption and failure of duty to the Thai people.
  2. So the idea that you move combustible and flammable material away from a welding operation (or put a tarp over it) has never occurred to a Thai worker?
  3. The authorities knew that refusing to accept the people's choice of Prime Minister would lead to rioting. This is a scenario that was just waiting to happen, and the military will feel justified in taking whatever actions they need to quell the demonstrations; Military Junta Rulebook 101.
  4. When Norwich Union/Aviva became a public limited company in the 1980s I was given shares as I was a policyholder. I think I'm a fairly normal person... I allocated them to my children as an investment, no money changed hands.
  5. So, my Thai wife has built and is registered as the owner of a property in Issan, which I, as a foreign national, will be staying in temporarily when we visit relatives in the coming years. Just asking for the sake of clarification; will she need to notify the authorities of my arrival within 24 hours?
  6. "Eventually, at around 8 p.m., Decha's daughter and son arrived at the scene." That's the first thing the cops should have done, call the family in to negotiate with their father before they attempt to storm the building. NB the purchaser did nothing wrong by trying to talk to the occupant about vacating the property, she didn't have a gun or threaten violence. If the old man feels he has been unjustly treated, he can go back to court and argue the point before a judge.
  7. Thai politics, always there to surprise you...????
  8. Why wasn't the event cancelled? The school authorities knew bad weather was on its way. Why have the children walk to school in the midst of a tropical storm?
  9. My Thai wife is at least 10 kgs under this weight, so I'm happy and so is she.
  10. Statistics indicate that as many as 51% of people killed in road accidents during Songkran festivals are heads of households. So the other 49% are sons, daughters, wives, close friends, etc. In other words the people you care about and would defend if being attacked in the street, but it's okay to drive them home when you're drunk and incapable.
  11. I believe the little girl is doctoring her answers to make sure the cheater doesn't benefit from his copying and has western ideals of honesty and integrity, like her grandfather. The same way a safe driver reports a drunk driver to stop other people getting hurt...
  12. Is she available to head up the committee investigating the cheating? It needs a expert with experience in how to spot a cheat...
  13. Just the one person dismissed from their job ...?
  14. So Thailand's leaders are okay with shaking the bloody hands of the despotic heads of government of China and Myanmar but draw the line at Putin...?
  15. I reside in the UK, so when I make arrangements to travel to Thailand I book my flight and car parking well in advance, to get the best possible price. Likewise, the Thai government should have bought the broadcast rights to the FIFA World Cup well in advance and not leave it to the last minute. If they don't understand this, then maybe they should employ an outside expert to help.
  16. In the UK the police and prosecution service can take a blood/breath test and do countback; calculate how much alcohol was in a person's body at the time of the incident. This technology has been available for 25 years and has led to sucessful prosecutions for DUI, leaving some motorists without a licence and hefty fines/jail time. What say the RTP?
  17. Some foreigners already own plots of land in Thailand. They're called war graves...
  18. Did no-one notice the adult nurses went missing for three years? No missing persons report?
  19. I'm an amateur when it comes to Thai politics and perhaps this has been said before in a different form, but I'll say it anyway... If the PM is counting his premiership from 2017, then any laws he signed into force before then are null and void. He didn't have the authority to sign the documents and his action in doing so is unconstitutional.
