The early evidence is showing he's probably right. And we know the vaccines work... basically any deaths from Covid at this point are from the un-vaccinated. So again, he's probably correct, get vaccinated.

We're considering the Tourist Visa, which gives 60 days, plus an extension of 30 days apparently. However it says a round trip plane ticket is required for the visa, I assume for exiting the country in 60 days? so does this mean we have to pay all the ridiculous expense of changing our ticket if we get the extension? What's the trick? is there a trick?
-
I know this is an old question...but are they still offering the METV Visa? If so, can anyone clarify how long I can stay in the country with this? Including extentions, etc?

They just can’t drop the ASQ thing…. and most countries allow the quick test… results in 15 minutes, this would eliminate the stupid ASQ. And for those still hung up on the idea “you can test neg and still have it” …. get OVER it, chances are almost nil… time to get on with life, this is NOT the plague!

I've been in Italy for over 2 months now, (I'm a US citizen).... since I cannot get the "Green Pass" I just show my white CDC Vaccination Card when entering and it's gotten me in just about everywhere. especially tourist areas that are aware of this.

As usual, much cynicism from much the same group of people. The reality is that Thailand will continue to be one of the places people want to retire to, as the country still has the things retirees want. Is it perfect, of course not. And you would think, from listening to this same old group of grumps, that Thailand is the only country in the world that Covid screwed up. Silly. Once the world adjusts to Covid as the new normal, Thailand will be back to being Thailand... a special place. For those that disagree, please feel free to let the rest of us in on all those "perfect" places to retire to instead of Thailand, I'd love to hear about them!

Still some people on this forum who are upset they just can't seem to figure out how to make $ online... so they just say it's a fallacy lol! ????. Well it's not I'm afraid....

Amazing so many on this forum are so much smarter than everyone else on the planet. Too bad you aren't in charge, I'm sure the world would be covid-less if you were. You are too much lol

Mexico is the same, MUCH easier to get into. Of course, Mexico did NOT handle Covid well at all statistically, and who knows what the real stats are but pretty sure they are bad. Things are getting better now, slowly. But Mexico is certainly faring a bit better economically, and it SEEMS they are fairly comfortable with their situation at this point. Different cultures, different philosophies and tolerances, etc.

Like I said... get the vaccine, you are NOT a threat to anyone...

What makes you so sure? What are "main vaccines"? There is no "main" some finished trials and approvals quicker than others. Btw, peole have been reinfected despite Pfizer/BNT jab.
No vaccine is 100%. I had HepA despite Twinrix jab.
The "main" vaccines are NOT the ones developed in Russia or even necessarily China. Does this mean those vaccines aren't effective? No. It just means we have no transparent confirmation that they work, so who knows? What we do no about the "main" vaccines is that they DO work, and work very well.
As far as your paranoia about vaccinated people, it is just that, paranoia. When you have a vaccine that is 90% effective, you are NOT a substantial threat to anybody else. You probably have a better chance of dying from an old flu strain than getting Covid from a vaccinated person.

Well gosh, how nice of them to consider not taking advantage of us clueless tourists.

I agree...this insurance is totally BOGUS for those who have been vaccinated. Yes it's not 100% that you cannot get/give it, but for all practical purposes, if you are vaccinated, you are 0 threat to others. I believe it is to appease the public, especially the ones who have so much irrational fear of the virus.

The 100k requirement is silly for those who are vaccinated. I know some will come back and say "you can still get it when vaccinated!!!" But that is just fearful bunk... the reality is that those that have one of the 3 main vaccines out there are NOT a threat. Anyone who knows anything at all about vaccines knows this is the truth. Time to get over all the irrational fears out there.

We have to have a negative swab test no more than 72 hours prior to boarding the flight to Thailand. We also have to have a COE..."Certficate of Entry"...which we get through the Thai Consulate here in Atlanta. We can enter on a tourist visa, which will give us 30 days and then we can extend for another 30 days. We're getting a long-term visa & COE however.

I originally had abut 8 ASQ hotels give me rates for 14 days....about 3 of those have come back to me over the last few days with the new 10 day option and we'll be booking one in a day or so. I think the packages include a test on day 3 and day 9... and if negative on day 3 you gain access to hotel facilities like the pool, gym, etc. ....if negative on day 9...you're free!

10 day packages ARE out for some of the hotels now.... not all have listed the 10 night package but when you ask most will give you new rates

I do not agree with some here. As far as certain types of care, like cardiac procedures for example, Thailand is MUCH cheaper than places like the USA. One procedure I had in the USA cost $49,000 USD....I have a quote from a good JC accredited Hospital in Bangkok for the same procedure for $19,000 USD. The equipment they will be using is state of the art. This is an extreme example, and pricing varies of course.
It is important to do your due diligence and research what you are looking for, not all the hospitals offer the same procedures/pricing etc.

My wife and I are moving to Bangkok in May, (and we are in our 50's), wondering what Health insurance companies anyone suggests? Luma and AXA seem interesting? Any advice is appreciated.

Amazing some people on this forum are so afraid even of vaccinated people.... I'm sorry but that is silly. Vaccinated people are NOT a threat, time to get over these irrational fears.

Anyone who is vaccinated is NOT a threat. Time to accept the fact that vaccines have liberated humans from the worst of many pandemics/diseases and will continue to do so.

Some here are still worried about people coming from "high risk" areas... but it does not matter WHERE you come from IF you don't have the virus (you've been tested multiple times)....and you are vaccinated! So time to stop worrying about "high risk" areas, they are becoming irrelevant with vaccines and screening.

No problem, the sheep will take it....the chickens can continue hiding.

Are you guys for real? You are so afraid of this thing that even vaccinated people are threatening to you? What is your solution; everyone just stay home FOREVER? I really don't mean to be rude, but I'm here to tell you that 70-90% efficacy is excellent for a vaccine, and add to that the falling mortality rate due to docs learning how to treat it, and this thing will be neutralized and life will go on. Will it be around for a long time? Of course, but so is the flu, yellow fever, dengue fever, malaria, etc....and somehow we deal with those without hiding in our homes. Time to get over these irrational fears.

Thailand again signals move away from mass-market foreign tourism with falling numbers
in Thailand News

I love Thailand, and I am NOT a "sex tourist"... but I'm not sure that Thailand would make a top destination for most "high end" tourists? There are many places to go around the world for big-spenders, Thailand certainly has some areas that would fit, but I think what primarily makes Thailand such a popular tourist destination is NOT high-end ritzy sites. This would be shooting for a totally different market, which from an economic standpoint would be, in all probability, a costly mistake.
