  1. I don't believe my wife is involved in taking our son away or in trying to get something from me, for a start she knows better than anyone we don't have anything substantial to give right now even if we wanted to. She was the one who made the report at the police station after getting no where trying to talk her family into giving him back at first. But I do understand her position in all this, if we take this all the way with the police then there is a chance her mother could be facing jail time, which as a good Thai daughter she cannot begin to see how she could do that but on the other hand she needs her son back.

I think your wife is full of baloney... "My mother stole my son for money", but I want to protect her as a "good Thai daughter"

Come on get real! In other words, my mother is more important than you or your child, haha Wake up!

This may sound like a joke to you, but the reality is, especially in rural areas, that the hirarchy goes like:

    1. parents (they are god for you, nothing touches them)

    2. child (thats something you created, so you have certain power and control over it)

(and assume that those rules are carved with blood in stone)

  2. Hello, I have noticed I can't connect to some websites (US-server, harmless, non-thai related content) from Thailand/Bangkok (through several providers) lately. The sites are all accessible through a proxy.

Can you access the website xilisoft.com from Thailand?

When I run a traceroute to their server, it stops at 115.178.59.222 which belongs to these guys

    netname: SUPERBROADBANDNETWORK-TH

    descr: 1, 1293/9 ESV Tower 3rd floor,

    country: TH

Do you have noticed the same or have any information about it? Currently I'm waiting for a tech (buddybb) to call me back but I have a feeling that I can wait for quite some time regarding this issue, if I get anything at all.

  3. Sometimes asked for in Kuala Lumpur in addition to the marriage certificate and copy of wife’s ID, signed be her:

    – letter from your wife, can be in Thai, asking the consulate to grant you a multiple entry non-immigrant visa so that you may visit her as often as possible

    – copy of wife’s house registration, signed by her

Ok thanks, what about a bank book from a thai or foreign bank, showing some funds? (I remember reading about it before here in the forum)

  4. From what I have read on this forum (check the pinned thread at the top for the latest) they are still issueing one year multiple entry non O visas in KL; if you have the right paperwork.

The KL Thai Embassy is open Monday to Friday, with the exception of Thai or Malaysian bank holidays.

Office Hours: Monday - Friday 09.00-13.00 hrs. and 14.00-17.00 hrs.

    Visa and Consular section : 09.30 - 13.00 hrs.

You must apply for your visa in the morning between 0930 -1130.

If you are on a single entry then yes, you can get a re-entry permit from immigration or the airport. It's probably less risky to apply at immigration before your departure date.

You can then pick up your passport from gate security, the next working day, between 1130-1230

What is the current (minimum plus optional) required paperwork for a Multi-Entry-Non-O (marriage) Visa from KL?

(2 years ago I received one showing my passport, copy of international marriage certificate, signed copy of wife ID)

  5. Actually the question "why" is a very simple one and has been answered in this thread now numerous times very clearly, because you have the VISA that requires you to do so (which is even perfectly designed to do just that).

If you DO NOT want to make border runs, contact your local immigration office for an 'EXTENSION OF STAY' valid one year and, if granted, you'll never have to go anywhere near a border again...

    Good luck :o

  7. Hello guys,

is anyone on buddy broadband highspeed package 2 Mbps/512 or even better the 4 Mbps/512 package within Bangkok?

If yes, could you run a www.speedtest.net to the new york server and post your up/down speed and checking time?

Thanks in advance for your input.

  8. I have tt&t and maxnet, speed is1263 kbps download and 414kpbs upload and local sites are downloading as usual.

Do have problems with many european and usa sites.

Sometimes I can download sometimes I cannot and many times the sites are not displayed like they normally do.

Something wrong with the international connection?

    rono

I am on a cslox consumer 2048x512 and no problems connecting to international sites but connection is just very slow at 50-200 kbps download speed compared to the package.

Which maxnet package do you have?

  9. Nope, I guess its just either they put too much stuff through a hole that its too small in order to gain maximum pro$it , or something is completely misconfigured at their end.

Again, local sites perform nicely and according to my package (cslox 2048/512), getting constantly 1600 download speed. But intl. servers, specifically US servers and all sites that are located there, perform badly. I just checked again through speedtest 6:00 pm and got 77 kbps download speed.

  10. Another friend, unable to work with TOT consumer ADSL is spending 2700 baht/m for 2.5 mb line. That's working very well for him.

Is this a business product from TOT? I wouldnt mind spending up to this amount for a quality connection. A couple of years ago I had a KSC Consumer package which are still very high-priced but the quality was good compared to the TRUE highspeed I changed to later in the hope of saving money. Now I'm living in a new condo where TRUE is not an option, only CSLOX and TOT, or I am going back again to KSC where the next relevant package of 1 Mb/512kbps comes at 3600 Baht :o

Just checked CSLOX consumer download speed, Nov 16. 0:22 AM: 106 kbps.

  11. I'm adding a bit to the picture here: I have CSLOX 2 Mb/512 kbps package for 1605 Baht. Within 24 hours, dowload speeds vary from 100-200 kbps depending on the time of day (or night...), upload speed may actually reach 250 kbps.

I am currently receiving support because I am not satisfied with the download speed in particular. The support guy that called me told me that he can not see this problem with the speed as in his office he is getting a 100 Mb (!) connection. They then basically tell you to monitor the speed a couple of times per day. Then you are getting a call from a nice lady at night, asking you about your current speed situation when speed is at its peak at 200 and if speed is ok "yes" or "no", relieved from a daytime speed of ~100 you are tempted to tell her that "hmm speed is ok/better now", which will close the case. If you are saying "but speed is less at daytime, she will tell you that it is natural as more people are using the connection". If you are saying "no", then you are requested to monitor again and I assume the support circle starts from scratch.

If this speed situation persists, I could also go to TOT 2Mb/512 package for 1000 Baht, I would get the same speed and save 600 Baht monthly.

It would be great if you guys could share your provider, package and www.speedtest.net results to US servers here.

  12. Based on what I've been reading, I have to totally disagree with this. Almost certainly Thai immigration will or already has started clamping down on issuing tourist visas to people who appear to be doing visa runs. You won't be able to just go into a Thai consulate and get a tourist visa if your passport is filled with stamps showing that you basically live in Thailand. It would defeat the whole purpose of the new regulations if they didn't also clamp down on issuing these visas.

It doesnt make sense to me. They could surely increase visa fees to an extent and start a flourishing business selling visas to VOA candidates which would cover up some potential tax loss caused by these individuals, which is what they currently have problems with as I understand.

  13. From October, tourists from the designated countries can still enter Thailand without visas and stay for up to 30 days, but their entry stamps will be renewable twice at most for a maximum stay of 90 days.

Some friends from Europe wanted to visit me in January 2007 and they planned short trips to Singapore, Saigon and Hong Kong from here. Does that mean now that they are refused entry when they come back from Hong Kong (since this would be the fourth entry stamp and there aren't 90 days between the returns)? :o
