The kids deserve better.  The junta has done nothing for their future, now they want to take away any fun they might have .   It is amazing Thais would even vote for such wet blankets.

Nobody in power in the last 50 years has done anything for their future except rob and rape the country...Just look at the happy snaps from Dubai by those disgusting ex leader siblings.

Fact is Thailand"s population could care less about a few students. The rest of Thailand are enjoying a trouble free lifestyle and are simply not interested.  The masses are not protesting however a lot of farang are just to damn stupid to get it. Big bwana are total clueless and truly believe they know whats best for thailand  or are posting from some jungle somewhere where they are completely out of touch with reality

My six-month winter stays in Bangkok are risky because at the age of 75, with six stents in my heart and successfully cured throat cancer ten years ago, I can't imagine that any affordable insurance is available to me.  I keep my house in Tokyo to which I can retreat for quite cheap treatment under the Japanese National Health Insurance system, if, that is, I can make it back to Japan for treatment.  I used to think that I could self-insure in thailand but with major hospitalizations now costing from 3-5 million that is not possible any more.  I still like to spend the Tokyo winters in Bangkok but one serious illness or accident could be disastrous if I were not able to fly back to Japan for recovery.  Fortunately, I am a permanent resident of Japan so qualify for immediate care when I return, if I am able to do so.  Japan will pay a portion of the cost of emergency care abroad but don't like it if you are gone for an extended period of time.  I guess that there may come a time when extended vacations in Thailand will be too risky, unless, that is, I suddenly die there in which case there  would be no problem - just my ashes to repatriate.  Any comments are welcome.

thats a big gamble at your age. Any severe incident could have you bedridden in a hospital with emergency surgery. Ive personally seen 2 cases with friends that destroyed them financially.

Although Im twenty years younger Ive decided to head back to OZ for free medicare and free very expensive drugs that are costing me a fortune here and I dont have insurance either. from oz I can get cheap travel insurance (around 500 AUD for 12 months)for future trips back that will cover me for several million dollars including sudden illness eg stroke appendices, heart attack and medivac flight home.

can you not get travel insurance from Japan? or your native country?

  3. Get the hell out of pattaya/jomtien ASAP, The extreme heat , cheap booze and easy little pretty's are a recipe for disaster for those who are to weak to fight it.

tell yourself or your friend to get back home to cooler climates where not every form of socializing occurs in a bar and your not panting for a cold beer after walking a mile.

  4. He doesnt need a hospital. There is plenty of info on the web that will tell him exactly how to wind down. However if he cant ration his alcohol without breaking the rules then yeah he will need to do it under medical supervision for the whole time until he is out of the woods

For some it seems so, for others it's not a problem.

Must be a reason for that.

I've just read through three pages of posts by concerned people ( most of them also) being confused by the rules governing Bangkok Bank's decision to ditch Visa/ Mastercard bank cards and switch to Union Pay, plus the confusion over when their cards might no longer be valid for some functions.

While the vast majority of customers would appear to prefer to stick with a Visa card, it's obvious that Bangkok Bank have no intention of listening to their customers and intend going down their own Union Pay path, so why don't customers that aren't happy with them simply change banks immediately??

A few people here say they intend changing when their cards expire, but why wait? Change now. Bangkok Bank just might get the message if there's a large exodus. They certainly won't if people delay changing and there's only a gradual exodus over the next two-three-fours years or so. And if they don't change you'll be with a bank that does give you the service you want.

Because Changing banks is a PITA . It was hard enough getting this account and if I shut down this account which is the only way BKK Bank will know then how does them changing their minds down the track benefit me? it would only benefit those that DIDNT  leave
