One issue with branches of SCB closing is that if the particular branch that you originally opened your account at closes then you will be registered at another branch and given a brand new account number effectively wiping clear all previous the transactions.

I know this for a fact because it happened to me a couple of years ago, right in the middle of my under consideration period with immigration!

I'd effectively applied for a marriage extension with an account that no longer existed!

This required quite a bit of sorting out...

My experience is quite the opposite when my SCB branch closed, also a couple of years ago ... my account was transferred to a different branch but my original account number and original bank book remained the same (also confirmed by postage mail from SCB) and hence no issues with immigration during the subsequent extension application.

    This was in Bangkok.

Viruses that are stable like TB  or smallpox are just as deadly as they ever were, dont spread easily thus allowing for very effective vaccines over time and thats great. However viruses that mutate ( are unstable ) do so in order to thrive and spread easier, there is a payoff for that however, keeping its host alive. Dead hosts dont help a virus to thrive and spread. To date without fail and that i can see even with your linked article there is no proven  exception so far... thankfully  ????

Out of interest does the report you made personally at MTT show up on the online status report? Also which browser did you use?

The 90 day report I made in person at MTT does not show up on the online status report (only my 90 day reports made online show up on the online status report).

The browser I used to make my online report was Mozilla Firefox.

I am sure a local office cannot change any of the records kept on the online report system.

I think their is new problem with the system the is causing the problem. I don't think it check the previous report before.

Previously it only checked a database generated by entries to the country to verify what you enter on page one.

The only way at this time to be able to do reports online again would be to leave and reenter the country to get a new entry date and TM6 card number.

I successfully submitted my 90 day report online on the 18th May (4 days ago) which was subsequently approved the same day ... my reporting office is Bangkok CW and I used my laptop to submit my application via the immigration online system.

As with other posters my previous 90 day report was made in person at MTT in Bangkok in March due to the system being offline/down.

Before the online system failure all other 90 day reports made by myself had been successfully approved online via the immigration online system .

Therefore in my 90 day reporting experience with a history of online approvals followed by in person approval and then followed by online approval again the system for me is functioning correctly again.

Curious what options are available for trying these out at a restaraunt.

Side note, Villa Market has Beyond bugers and other plant based meats in the frozen section.

Lets Plant Meat burgers are a local business operating out of Thailand and their plant based burgers are very tasty and were selling for 75Baht a burger at Tesco outlets ... here is their website which contains their details and where they sell their burgers.

Yes. This does not include you, with an O visa extension renewal, thus your new 26 Sept 2021 extension expiration date, per the amnesty guidelines for extensions expiring between 1 Aug and 26 Sept.

Thus, I was just pointing out the exception to this, namely, those of us requiring med insurance from a Thai company. Plus, that there may be a real traffic jam at Imm next year for the multitude of renewers, all with 26 Sept 2021 expiration dates (yes, there's a 45 day flux period to ease the situation).

Of course, you knew why your new renewal expiration date slipped to 26 Sept; just pointing out why some were excluded from that date.

If you use the online appointment system at CW for retirement extension you can avoid the masses ... as long as all your paperwork is in order can be finished within 30 minutes.

Thanks, it would be great to have a copy. I used an agent this year because it was my first extension. But I never got copies of the paperwork. Next year I plan on going it alone. So I have a folder to which I add whatever useful info I can pick up from threads like this.

This thaivisa thread above has an example of the letter ... most banks will be familiar with the letter and should have a template on their computers somewhere.

I was mentally trying to figure out if something like this would work... start out with 800K+, then after the 3 month lockdown period, move 400K of that to a new account, and then just prior to the next year's two month seasoning period, move the final 400K+ into the new account...

I think that's keeping 800K and 400K in one account or the other at all the required times during the year. But I have no idea how Immigration would respond to that.

I think you would need to check with immigration at CW whether this would be acceptable and then get the approval in writing as proof just in case ... it would still be 'squeaky bum time' at your next extension application though ... ????

Ahh... that's a good, interesting point. I wonder how that would work with Immigration... switching accounts and account numbers mid year (let's say during the 400K months period), not in the 3 months after or the two months before...

Wonder if anyone has any direct experience with that?

Ive only read a couple of reports of other posters who have inadvertently dropped below the 800,000 threshold within the 3 month grace period after their previous extension and this seemed to cause a lot of problems so wouldn't like to chance a full fund removal even if to another bank account in the same applicants name ... it would be a gamble.

As said before, this was my first time doing a bank deposit based retirement extension. So I wasn't really clear on just how old the bank account confirmation letter could be at BKK CW... But thru this experience, I've seen where BKK Immigration in their email has said up to 7 days prior is fine.

Hopefully I can rely on that for the future. So it'll either be that and get my letter from my local branch a day or two before, or, perhaps move my 800K from Krungsri to BKK Bank...  Have to think about that in the months ahead.

I kinda dislike having to sit around BKK and cool my heels for 45 minutes while the Krungsri branch there diddles with my account letter, even if the Immigration appointments system now gives me the time to allow that waiting.

I would recommend to stick with your current bank and just get the letter and statement from your bank within the 7 days before your extension appointment (I always get my letter the day before).

The problem with the 12 month statement from Bangkok bank is that this takes up to 7 days as has to be requested via their head office ... the other issue which may come up with shifting your funds from your current bank account to another different bank is that immigration may well interpret this as a breach of their funds requirements upon your next extension application as you will have dropped below their threshold in your current bank account ... with their newish rules in place regarding the amounts that must remain in the bank account it seems to me that we are now locked into using the same bank account indefinitely or we risk jeopardizing the following years extension application.

WOW!! That's surprising...and inconvenient for farang SCB customers...

Any idea what's the closest alternate branch location?

In the old days, there were times when I had wanted to use a Standard Chartered branch for a bank deposit...but never did for Immigration purposes, because they didn't have a branch at BKK CW... And the closest one nearby was at Central Chaengwattana Mall, and didn't open daily until 10 am, which would have been especially bad in the old days prior to the current appointments system.

Another poster reported that Chulabhorn hospital Siam Commercial branch was now the closest branch to CW but to be honest I haven't checked whether there are any closer branches nearby.

This year I got my letter and statement from my local Siam Commercial branch the day before and then scheduled my appointment for 13:30 at CW the following day which gave me time to transfer a small amount online into my bank account and then update my bank book at a Siam Commercial branch close to where I live on the morning of my appointment before I traveled to CW for my 13:30 appointment.

Normally I would update the bank book at CW upon arrival but luckily read a report from another poster informing of the Siam Commercial closure at CW.

Ryan if your doing extension at CW, here is what has always worked for me.

Dont go super early waste of time. Also there is appointment system now.

When arrive go to your bank for letter and make deposit. Then upstairs for your appointment. Easy peasy.

That wont work if you use Siam Commercial bank as this branch is now closed at CW ... all other banks are fine though.

I did that one year a few years ago and the IO rejected it saying I had to provide a bank statement for each day (back then 3 months - now I expect it to be 12 months on the next visit).

It seems when my bank KBank updates the book it can sometimes put a cumulative amount of deposits and withdrawals over a period on months into a single line if the book isn't used much, so the IO cannot see what happened on a daily basis. Some others have said they update their bank books at machines once a month to get around this. I don't think I have taken my bank book out the draw and updated it since I last used it for an annual visa extension, and it gets used less in the digital age.

You will for sure need to show a 12 month bank statement this time to go with your bank letter and passbook (especially if it hasn't been updated regularly as you stated).

The IO will go through the statement with an eagle eye to make sure it hasn't fallen below the required amounts.

Regarding the statements you attach in your post (thanks a lot for that !), I have a doubt on how to fill up statement #3. Are you supposed to fill up all the details under your own name, or do you need to use another person as guarantor? It's not so clear to me how to fill up this form? Thanks in advance for your comments on this

i'm not an old hand at this, have only done three retirement extensions, but have never needed to show activity in a fixed account when applying at CW.  some banks do require activity in order to update a passbook, bangkok bank does not.

i have two savings account passbooks i carry along with me in case they ask what funds i use to pay daily expenses.  haven't been asked yet.

I have always had  to show same day activity as others have reported at CW for retirement and also Thai wife extensions.

I used to make extensions at Suan Plu immigration before the move to CW and this requirement started at CW.

  16. 13 minutes ago, TallGuyJohninBKK said:

So in your case, the IO this year didn't care that the bank passbook photocopies were official ones coming directly from the bank. Your own photocopies were OK.

BTW, just to be clear... the IO wanted photos of the entire passbook... or just the pages covering the prior year?

Ive always given them my own photocopies of the whole passbook and never a problem.

This year they required a one year statement from my bank along with the letter (which incidentally can be up to 7 days old as stated on their requirements) and my IO carefully marked from the 3 month after period from my last extension until the 2 month before my current extension to make sure that the amounts didn't fall below the requirement.

The Siam Commercial bank branch is now closed at CW government complex and this is a permanent closure (we phoned the head office to check).

    TG,

I'll be doing a marriage extension of stay mid Sept....I'm switching from a retirement extension of stay to a marriage extension of stay.  I see at CW's online appt system where they offer an appt for Retirement extension (like you had) but didn't see a category for Marriage extension.  See below...where I did a snapshot from their appt system..  Extension Visa for Retirement is the first on....then a bunch more....a few more I didn't include in the snapshot but those few more had nothing to do with marriage extensions.

Maybe a person can not make an appt for marriage extension?  Do you (or anybody know)?  Thanks.

Apparently it is not possible to schedule an online appointment for Thai wife extension at CW at the moment.

Re Sept. 26, that's what I thought also... that the Sept end date was just supposed to be the amnesty-related end date for short-term extensions...

It would appear, however, that BKK CW has their own different view about that, and are applying that date for regular annual retirement extensions that are coming their way right now.

I have since read elsewhere of reports from at least 3 other immigration offices (Chiangmai, Nong Bua Lamphu and Korat) as well as CW Bangkok operating the same way for retirement extensions and giving the new extension expiry date of 26 SEP 2021.

Here's the stamp MTT Immigration in BKK graced my passport with today, explaining that the reason I had to do an in-person report -- and not by mail or online after skipping once during amnesty -- was so they could place this little sucker in my passport.

I also was given a new extension expiry date of Sept. 26, 2021 today.... even though I've had the same Sept. 17 annual renewal date ever since I took out my first extension here many years ago, same month/date entry every year no matter what date I went to renew.... Not sure why I got the added 9 days this year.

I wrote in another thread of receiving a new retirement extension expiry date of 26 SEP 2021 and have since read elsewhere of reports from at least 3 other immigration offices operating the same way for retirement extensions and giving the new extension expiry date of 26 SEP 2021.

I can also concur about the online appointment system which I also used at CW at the beginning of August when making my retirement extension and reentry permit and was finished with everything within 40 minutes ... my appointment time was 13:30 and there was no waiting whatsoever.

That's a helluva drive just to do the damn 90 day. I live a few hundred meters from Nakhon Pathom province and a round trip to Chaengwattana costs me around 1000 baht by taxi. And, yes, the immigration office for Nakhon Pathom is about 7 km and 15 minutes away. Worse is the three hours it takes to drive there, with more than one hour spent on the last two km or so.

If you can get to Lak Song MRT station by taxi you can then use the mass transit system to get to within 5 kms of the government complex at Chaeng Wattana.

From Lak Song MRT station can take MRT to Tha Phra MRT station and then change MRT at Tha Phra MRT station to the Charan Sanitwong MRT line and then take MRT train to Chatuchak Park MRT station.

At Chatuchak Park MRT station you can transfer to Mochit BTS station (short walk follow signs) and then take BTS to Wat Phra Sri Mahathat BTS station which is the terminal BTS station.

You are then within 5kms of the Government complex and can take a 10 minute taxi ride to get to your destination.

Should save you money and time.
