  1. my wife teaches accounting and poli-sci at 2 universities in chaiyaphum province.  she was just informed that classes wont start until mid-july and could be delayed further. originally it was mid-may.    there is no online teaching capability in either of these schools.  her younger sister is in her final year studying education (teaching) in loeii province.  she was told august.   her student teaching was cancelled and no info when it can resume.  also no possibility of online classes at her school.

I've been living in Chaiyaphum Province for a/b 5 yrs. w/ my Thai wife in a village a/b 60 K North of Chaiyaphum city. It's a very rural area w/ practically NOTHING "to do." However I have many personal interests that "keep me busy." If you don't, you might find it "mind boggling" to live "this life." Our "big adventure" is going to Khonkaen a/b 1x a week. Chaiyaphum is closer, but I think KK has more to offer.

Feel free to IM me. Hold onto your seat buddy.... you're in for one hell of a ride (only my opinion of course)

    Cheers,

    Keoki

hi Keoki are you still around?  Canadian here also 60km north from Chaiyaphum over 5 years now with the wife - (ban na nongthum)  I would add that besides khon kaen, korat is only a 2 hour drive from Chaiyaphum for entertainment/shopping.  also there is a nice park with walking paths, a lake.  also good for baseball, flying model aircraft and the occasional drone.  join aerobics free near the night bazaar around 6pm.  big C shopping center has expanded as well so not too bad for a small city.

  3. Update;  wife followed up yesterday with bank and was told that head office in BKK promised to both credit 6,000 (bank deposit error) to new bank account on Sep 12 (2 weeks),  and complete investigation of 15,000 (theft).  I will continue to post FYI.   I want to add that wife gets VIP treatment at this bank branch office (she manages government accounts deposited there) so God help a normal account holder!

I'd be interested to know what exactly has happened here. Suddenly bank advises error. You really need to get online with that bank account if possible.  Just seeing the methods cash was withdrawn could be useful. This lost bank book also looks a bit odd. I'd have replaced that fast.

Taugausau bank or BAAC is a bit of a dinosaur even for thai banks.  there is no online access possible.  My wife manages government bank accounts in this bank and told me that bank has made a number of deposit errors - causing her extra work to balance and correct.  but first time they have made a mistake with her salary.  so maybe not so unusual?   I definitely prefer banks with online access as you say like Bangkok bank or Kasikorn.  I will post if/when error is corrected

    She should clear this situation.

The bankbook is THE key/legal document for the account.

It may or may not be necessary to report the loss at the police station and then take report to the bank.

It will be interesting to hear what then happens.

I don't have an exact idea but I doubt that they will print transactions for the last 8 years.

good advice thanks.  we went to the bank today first thing and opened a new account.  being a Monday staff too busy to follow up on the 15000 theft and about crediting the 6000 bank error but we will not let it go and will continue to post what happens FYI

  6. I just looked on the bank card - it has in English "bank for agriculture".    definitely not KTB.   am aware our financial arrangement is strange for isaan but it works for us.  she works hard and I am retired.   what you commented is very common here but in this case I know it wasn't her and her bank card was always in my possession.

  7. am another victim of ATM theft.  I have looked for open threads but all closed so I want to post FYI and get feedback and advice.   I live in backwoods isaan with my thai wife who is an accountant for the government in a rural district office.  Her salary is deposited monthly to her account in Taugausau government bank account.  She is required to use this bank.  She has me manage our money and I alone have her bank card.  last month I went to withdraw and found 15,000 missing 2 days after salary was deposited  28th july/18.  I use only ATM's attached to the bank and am cautious about covering the keyboard and that nobody is watching.  She inquired at the bank and her office and found out that several people had lost money.  I emptied the account and this month just before payday august 28/18 I changed the PIN.  being worried I went to the bank at 11am and then at 3pm but salary had not been deposited.  I went back at 6pm and salary was deposited but another theft of 6020 had occurred.  In this case the change of PIN did not help.  The 20B suggests the withdrawal was in another city or at least another bank's atm.  The close timing of the theft makes me think there was inside collusion. My wife is trying to get help from the bank but it seems that this is not a priority for them.  I welcome thoughts and suggestions.
