Suddenly there are attractive men in the area. Suddenly you're out of your comfort zone.

The card-issuing bank primarily determines that....how much your purchase limit is...what your cash advance limit is....whether the card can be used outside the home country without prior notification....benefits earned...etc. The card-network (i.e., Visa, Mastercard, etc) really just provides the network allowing the card to be used worldwide (or as allowed by the card-issuing bank), processes the transactions, etc., basically the all important middle man.
Yeah you're spot on, though a lot of banks have comparable systems.
But if a merchant doesn't accept your Visa debit card, that's not the issuing bank's fault.

Whether the card carries the Visa, Mastercard, Amex, UnionPay, or whatever "card network logo" has nothing to do in determining if a bank or credit card company will issue you a credit card. The card network (i.e., Visa, Amex, etc) does not determine if you qualify for a credit card but the card-issuing bank/credit card company.
But it determines where you can spend it and how.

I used mine when I was working from Thailand for flights and hotels. It will have your name on it which the normal ATM debit card will not and that is needed for flights. Paid off monthly so no interest to worry about.
Technically speaking, the cardholder name isn't actually used in the payment authorization process.
If you want to test it out, try putting something else in there like your partner's name or your pet's name. You could also type "PRIVILEGED MEMBER" as it is printed on the debit card and it would still work.
The only trouble you might get (though very unlikely in my experience) is if you put in a random name and the merchant notices it, thinking it's a stolen card number.

I'll just pop down to the local juice shop and ask for an immuno-booster shake then.

There's a True store open on Rama 2 that is apparently BAU. Mate bought a new phone there about 1-2 weeks ago.

Any word if King Power or the other duty free shops are open and selling alcohol in airside Suvarnabhumi airport?

You reckon? I thought those were supposed to be the size of your hand -- this one was more the size of my thumbnail.

Sorry if this is the wrong subforum but it seems more fitting than others.
I found a spider nest in my bedroom a couple of nights ago after I was tracing a bunch of tiny "ants" I found on my bedside table. I removed the nest and the baby spiders I found and went to bed.
Next day I found what I assume is the mother spider (picture below) and want to know if I need to get some exterminators in or if the spiders are harmless to humans as there are probably more babies crawling around. The closest match I was able to find online was a spider from USA, so it's unlikely to be that. My friend suggested it could be a "false widow" but I wasn't able to find information about those spiders in Thailand.
Would anyone be able to have a look at the picture below and help me identify it? It's a bit smaller than a 1 thb coin and mostly black. Found in my 10th floor condo in Bangkok. Thank you!

Samut Prakan has just extended their ban untill to 30th of April, it has been suggested that other provinces with short bans may follow suit.
Have you got a source on that? I'm still seeing signs on all the stores that says it's banned until 11am on 21st

"Raids" to ensure that common/gathering areas in hostels have been closed-off are fine. If they haven't been blocked off then it's the proprietor's fault and they should be fined.
Forcing the hostels to close and causing tourists who are stuck here to sleep on the streets is immoral. Lockdown not lockout.

I'm booked with qatar in a fortnight. I checked the seating map and its virtually empty, so I'm a bit worried they'll cancel the flight if it's just me and a handful of other people.

No one can obtain health insurance that would cover them for Covid-19,
You're wrong about this mate. I spoke to my insurance agent yesterday and was advised that I am covered for covid-19.
Whether people can sign up for a new policy that covers covid-19 is something different.

The price depends on which hospital you go to. Check your insurance policy to see how much they'll pay. You have insurance right?

Since the OP just entered the country can he do his first 90 day report online? I was told that the first 90 day report after entering Thailand had to be done in person.
I thought the same too. Is this still the case?

Viruses mutate faster than other diseases/illnesses (hence why the seasonal flu requires new shots every year), so the antibodies you develop for the strain you contracted and recovered from wont really make a difference if you become infected with a mutated strain.
If the reports are to believed, you could get "the" coronavirus more than once until the pandemic is resolved.

Partner and I just bought a house in a new development. He's handling it all since I can't deal with salespeople, but fron memory the initial asking price was about 18 or 20 million. We're getting it for about 11 million.
Agents are full of <deleted>. Haggle them down. As others have said, it's a buyers market right now.

I was at CW in the last week or so to get my non-B extension and re-entry permit done and found that it was still busy as usual.
All the seats were taken in the TV section and some were standing up (no changes there). YMMV but it seemed the same to me, aside from getting lazer'd in the forehead with one of those temperature guns on the way in.

There are lots of moving parts with money transfers, so if you could provide some more information about the process you took to transfer the money then someone like myself or another member would be able to give you advice.
