  1. I'll be visiting these places roughly in that order in the next 3-4 weeks and need a shoe repair guy who can also fix soles on trainers too

I've very fussy feet and I know these trainers work with them, they also cost me 200 euros so I'd rather fix them than replace with a new pair

Does anyone have recommendations for places that can do this in either Koh Tao, Krabi, Phuket, Phi Phi or Bangkok? In that order if you can as I'm in Tao now and - as beautiful as it is - I don't think there's a shoe repair business here

If the people in the shop can speak good English so I can fully explain what I need done it'd be great too

    Thanks

Yeah dude it sucks. Yesterday I saw the storms clouds gathering, so I bagged my plans and did the laundry, read a book, had a nice breakfast and lunch. Took a nap while it rained, fiddled on TVF, edited some pics, played with my camera, chatted with girls on Line and TF, took a cool shower, took the BTS and went to a camera store, took the BTS and checked out some talent in Sukonit Road, had a nice pizza, burped, ate a mango, had a few drinks in Nana, worked a potential gogo girl, played butt slap with a Mamasan, talked to the worm guy, got on the BTS, got off at Saphan Taksin, looked at the river while drinking a beer, got back on the BTS for last train and home.

    <deleted> boring.

    That's all? ????

  4. Finally booked my first week of 2-3 months in Thailand! ????

It's December 11th to 18th in Bangkok and then I'm open to ideas but don't want to leave it too late as it's a very busy time of year for hotels and flights

Where is good for a week over Christmas in Thailand and then a week that includes New Years Eve?

I like Cafe Mambo (Ibiza) style beach bars so this kind of thing would be great in general for either week. Bophut in Samui has a beach club called Coco I believe is very like this

Me: 33, male, traveling solo for the most part, up for the craic but not a huge drinker, love beaches but fond of city vibes ala New York too (I've heard Bangkok described as a "grittier New York but just as good)

Not a fan of: snorkeling, watersports, hiking or rowdy drunken idiots (so I think Patong is definitely off the list)

I can work out my January and February itinerary once I know I have December 18th to about January 4th covered

    Cheers

Mods, I posted this in the Medical forum by mistake. As I'll be a tourist in Thailand I'd rather post it here. Thanks.

    From here - https://thethaiger.com/news/national/dengue-fever-cases-over-50000-in-2018

Guys, seriously. What the hell? How do I - as an overthinker - do Thailand without worrying myself to sleep every night when there?

    Precautions

    • Deet (50% or more)
    • Dettol soap (hated by mossies apparently)
    • long trousers/jeans after sunset
    • Keep fan beside bed
    • Spray clothes in Permethrin

    What else?

Singapore seem to have got Dengue well under control. Why can't the Thai government be more vigilant in this too?

    Article here .....

**"Thailand health officials say the number of people requiring treatment for dengue fever has already topped the 50,000 mark in the first eight months of 2018.

According to the Ministry of Health’s Bureau of Epidemiology, a total of 50,079 cases have been reported from the 77 provinces by August 27, of whom 65 died from complications related to the disease.

The areas where you are most likely to contract dengue include Phuket, Nakorn Pathom, Phichit, Maehongsorn and Krabi.

Dengue fever is an infectious disease carried by mosquitoes in mostly tropical regions around the world. Dengue used to be called “break-bone fever” because it often causes severe joint and muscle pain that patient’s describe feels like bones are breaking.

People contract the dengue virus from the bite of an infectious Aedes mosquito – you can’t get dengue from another human.

The Ministry of Health says there are three types of dengue fever which, in order of less severe to most, are: the typical uncomplicated dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHS) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

The World Health Organisation estimates there may be 50–100 million dengue infections worldwide every year.

However, new research from the University of Oxford and the Wellcome Trust suggests that the number is more likely to be 390 million dengue infections per year worldwide"**

  6. I've got the Bangkok part of my itinerary sorted (with this forum a big help in doing so) and the next bit of it I'm looking at is Ao Nang

Me: Male, solo traveler, early 30s

Love: the beach, meeting other solo travelers, wandering around markets and very much looking forward to more great Thai food ?

I'm a social drinker but not a huge one. A classy beach bar or two would be great to have nearby

Budget - trying to keep it at no more than 30 euros a night. Ideally 20

Staying for: a week or two (I'm planning on at least 3 months in Thailand so I'm going to spend a decent amount of time in each place)

Location: close to the beach but not too close to the madness (although I don't think by Thailand standards that Ao Nang gets too crazy anywhere)

Other: likely looking at a trip to Railay beach from here. Is there anyway of doing it on a ferry rather than a longtail?

Hotels I like the look of so far:  Ibis Styles Krabi Ao Nang https://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-7020-ibis-styles-krabi-ao-nang/index.shtml

    and https://www.theverandahaonang.com/

    Thanks

20 euros is about 750bht, which isn't going to give you too much choice in a hotel. If you are staying for a month, then a good deal can be found. Next to Chillax on the left, is a 7 level condo complex, Juan Manee, which I stayed at for 7 mths. One mth starts from 10k Bht, 7 levels, room with balcony, aircond, furnished, option of TV, fridge and WiFi each at 350bht extra per month. Modern building, 24 hr security. For 6 mths price reduces to 6000bht pm.

Banglumpoo Place, 150m away on Phra Arthit Rd has similar for 16k Bht pm fully furnished with safe, fridge, TV and free WiFi but the view from balcony is just your neighbor. They do offer daily tariff as well.. And finally for your 20 euro, Sawasdee Banglumpoo has very small aircond rooms with TV and fridge, not balcony at around 700bht per night. Back half block from Khaosan, not much noise.. But stairs only and no lift, mainly for backpackers..

I'd go to 30 euros for the right place (20 - 30 euros is what I mentioned above)

Thanks for the rest of the reply but I'm only staying in Bangkok for 5 nights.

The majority of the reviews for Sawasdee Banglumpoo Inn are saying it's filthy dirty .

  8.

I'm one hour in on looking at rooms on Booking, Agoda etc and still haven't found something to my liking. There's too much choice for my overthinking brain ?

    • Budget: Around 20 euros a night

    • Location: Rambuttri road. Near enough to KhaoSan but not actually on it

    • Must have: absolutely zero bedbugs, rats, etc. I know mosquitoes are hard to keep out of any room in SEA but if hotels have a higher proportion of them than others I'd rule them out too

    • Must Be: a hotel and not hostel. I'm too old for hostels ?

    • Must have: an elevator

Me - 33, male, mostly wanting to see Bangkok for great food and some temples and nightlife before moving onto the islands

    Thanks
