Having cancer myself have come to the conclusion that life extension drug treatments are not cost effective for myself so prepared to meet end a few days earlier when alternative operative methods are no longer available.  Believe suffering/pain is more of a concern than the extra month(s) or so drugs may provide.  We all seem to die so making that as pain free as possible seems to be a better goal.

I did try targeted liver cancer medication for a month - not happy with it (or the medical used car sellers push to use it) but do understand some may not have as bad reactions as others when taking.   As for cost the special drugs can run very close to US prices in private treatment hospitals.

Oh Lopburi3, I m glad you are fine at the moment, I also understood wrongly you are experiencing some sort of cancer now, but thanks God, you are cancer free!

We all have to die, the only thing we don't know it is when....

wishing you all the very best!

I am a healthy 54 y.o. person with no chronic diseases.

Early December I had a very stiff neck and nape. After two, three trips to doctors that told me it is a muscle stiffness, I had a  big lump coming out. In total panick,  I contacted a family member who is a doctor in my country. She said is a lymph node swelling. Went to BKK Phuket Hospital A&E as I didn't know what doctor to go?

A&E referred me to an ENT doctor after taking X-rays of my chest, all clear.

ENT specialist advised ultrasound and after that, told me to undergo a biopsy with two doctors and a needle!!

Spoke about malignancy signs....in another lympnode by the collarbone, in the front of my neck.

I got upset the doctor wouldn't remove the swollen lymph node and went to the old, dirty public Vachira hospital.

To my surprise the ENT doctor looks very confident and suggested removing the swollen lymph node the following day.

Which I did just before Christmas.

After that, biopsy confirmed "reactive lymphoid hyperplasia". Antibiotics worked a bit, not great.

Two weeks later, swollen still there, The doctor operated me again this week. Infection has set in.

Now I wonder, where all this infection come from? From the primary infection, isn't it?

Why nobody looks for the root causes?

What sort of specialist I have to visit?

Phuket is not the maximum when it comes down to Health care.

In the biopsy of the original lymph node, taken as a whole, have they tested me for all known bacteria and virus?

I understand now I do not have a cancer, but I don't want to sit down crossing my arms in lovely Phuket waiting  for cancer to come and spread!

If someone has been through something like this and can give feedback I would be most grateful. I would apprecciate Sheryl feedback, particularly.

    Lovely weekend to all!

  3. Update on Phuket DLT, on 26th October 2020:

Finally my appointment date arrived (7 weeks after first going to DLT with all my documents to renew 2 years Thai license for car into 5 years).

I was ready to be sent running to Immigration and to the GP again to get "fresh certificates" as all my letters were expired....

    Well, no this time.

The process was somehow different as 2 years ago. The area got air con (way too cold). This time no video. The reaction test was a pain....repeated many times, no explanation whatsoever. In thai, you get some explanation and demonstration.

After a good deal of humiliation by a middle aged woman shouting at me without mask, I got the 5 year license. 505 Baht.

The place is troublesome, less than Immigration though. All run by ladies, very clean procedure, no money under the table here, I was told by Thai friends. Thais now do an organised day-travel in minibuses to Ta Pa Kua to get it (5000 Baht, no stories).

Thank you to all readers who made my life easier here in Land of Smiles!

  4. I went today to Phuket DLT and the appointment is for 27/11.

Obviously my Immigration letter and medical certificate will be expired by then....

As far as I am concerned, it is already "presented"....Can DLT ask you a "fresh" certificate by then?

I didn't even ask the question, but it sounds ridiculous to ask two times for the same thing....knowing that the second time it will be expired due to the  lack of numbers in the queue.....

    Can anyone enlighten me please?/

  5. yes, the group is working....

my husband will take a taxi from phuket to krabi to catch a flight to BKK this coming Sunday. And another flight out of Thailand...the dad is in intensive care.

Taxi fee is 3000 Baht, advertised already in the FB group to find someone to share the fee.

  6. I heard immunotherapy has great results for lung cancer. Don't know what Thailand has to offer.

If you refer to alternative therapy, you may try Mutsumi Adachi at Omroom. When she came to Phuket, I had a session of Memory and cranio sacral therapy, very good. Kamalaya is a very reputable center of alternative therapies in Koh Samui. All therapists are well known in each field, you can visit the website first. Best of luck with your choice of treatment!

  7. Today I have received post from Norway, it took one month plus two days, posted on 23March.

I reckon the planes have been grounded in some stop-over European location....with my letter in!

Thank you to all of you who gave me some hope to keep waiting!

Everyday I was watching the postman coming in: nothing for me. Until today!! So happy, guys!

    so, do not loose hope....

Enough with this  herd immunity nonsense. The term is  being misused. It applies to vaccination.

There is no evidence that there is anything more than a short term immunity  and that is not good enough for this type of illness. When we are infected with other corona viruses we  are easily reinfected again.

The number of infected  who require hospitalization is just too high. It will paralyze an economy because workers will be getting ill frequently. The emotional toil from  chronic disease is heavy.

More importantly, a society that  readily  allows its  vulnerable  to be  killed off is not much of a society.

Italians did not take the appropriate social distancing measures to begin with. Then when the north was to  be locked down, selfish people fled  bringing the infection with them. They didn't self isolate for 14 days.

Much of this is a direct result of Italian stupidity and refusing to follow instructions. We are seeing it in the UK, USA and Canada too. people returning from out of the country refused to self isolate. They will infect and kill innocent people.

Italy took the appropriate social distancing measures, but unfortunately, it was too late, two weeks late according to some virologists....

Being the main hotbed the football match Atalanta-Valencia hold in San Siro, Milan, sometime last Feb.

The current premier is a bit weak, he does not belongs to any political party.

Aid is arriving from China, Russia and Cuba. Very wellcome!

    Desperate need of ventilators.

But the way is self-sourcing, each Italian abroad, right now, is phoning and searching equipment wherever.

Also starting to manufacture in Italy.  This is the way, in my view.

    Make your own.

    Thanks for all your comments.

The Thai Baht has gotten stronger since my arrival in Thailand 4 years ago. In addition, prices have gone up.

In México, where I lived prior to 2014 for 3 years, the Peso has gotten weaker. Just this week the peso adjusted due to interest rate changes in Mexico.

I can understand Mexican economics.. Just a bit. Thailands cause and affect in their economics make zero sense to me.

Retirees and indeed younger entrepreneurs are looking for an economically sensible place to live. Thailand is a very poor in this regard. Real estate here in Thailand.. Land especially is about DOUBLE the cost of similar land in Mexico! Even the price of rice is more expensive in Thailand! 5555. When you think about rice... Thailand and China come to mind right? So why is rice cheaper in México?

One if my favourite comparisons is clothes and shoes that are "Made in Thailand" and sold for less in Mexico than at Platinum market in BKK! Huh? This is a big mystery to me. 555

I'm not poor. But I'm not stupid with my money either.

Yes, not a good deal anymore.

But do not think only in terms of expensive/cheap. When it comes to choose a place to live there are many criteria discussed here.

And honestly, how much rice do you eat?

How often you need to go shopping for clothes/shoes in Thailand?

I also arrived 3 years ago and still haven't got a single occassion to dress up. Is completely different to all other places I have lived before.

You know better about daily life in Mexico. I will call a friend in Monterrey in these days to see her views.

A few years ago, they couldn't even reach to the airport because criminals were attacking cars on the road. Have to spend a night at the airport hotel, if you want to live.

What the video of Lake Chapala/ Ajijic talks about is True.

Mexico is gripped in drug-wars, rival cartels killing each other and whoever is walking/driving on their way.

So easy to die in a daytime shooting in Monterrey. I don't know now the situation, but it was like this a few years back.

We shouldn't underestimate the value of feeling safe in Thailand.

I'd love to fly the East route & stop off at some places I've never visited on the way, but it's far cheaper for me to combine the trip with a trip to visit family in Manchester (UK) which I will be doing anyway, this way it's like I get to visit them twice (top & tail of the trip) at no/minimal extra cost.

It's still 80,000THB + 110,000 THB though, that's in Business Class, once I've settled in to being retired (be kind, it's only my 2nd day & I still need to go into the office on 6th December to do the formal exit... yes I'm still being paid until then ????) & not in a rush I'll look into the Economy pricing - Going the other way was coming out at 320-340,000 THB with the itinerary I was looking at (The Chinese Airlines didn't come up on my searches)

That is a very good deal for you, business class and two stop-overs to visit the family! two one way tickets, isn't it?

I wish you a smooth transition to retirement life.

Why is it so pricey to fly East, which is the more natural way to fly?

And yes, China Southern looks quite attractive....don't know the record.... I don't mind any airline as long as it doesn't fall down. This is the only thing I check before buying a ticket. Accidents.

From list of requirements to One- Only requirement!

I fly BKK to Mexico city on China Southern. Check my 2x 23kg suitcases on one end and see them again at my final destination. About 700 usd each way.. Time of year and direction are factors.

Then from MEX to CO. That's the only way I know of.

Checking the East route to Argentina....

Skyscanner allows such a search in Multi-destination setting....

So, I have to split the journey....

    Lets'say HKT (Phuket)-SYD (Sydney)

    SYD-BUE (Buenos Aires)

Results in a 30 hour trip for 80,000 Baht, return fare, leaving in Dec coming back in Feb.

So-so airlines: Air Asia, Air Asia X and LATAM (??)

Same from BKK, but with Qantas:

    BKK-SYD (13 hs)

    SYD-BUE(22 hs)

    77,000Baht.

Perhaps there are better options to fly East, but no aware of. Usually I input SCL, as Chile offers more options than Argentina, and it is a quick jump, anyway....

Hopper is full of searches, from KL, from HK, from HKT, from BKK. Christmas is in the air, and fares are High, whatever direction one may decide to take.

Charges for changes are also very high, and with the uncertainty I am facing, I will get a one-way-ticket this time.

    No cheap.
