  1. There are also some words in his posts which are quite archaic and unusual, eg "occidentals", "Thailanders" etc. No self-respecting Singaporean would admit to "not keeping up social status" and looking good in those gaudy academic robes. Troll alert.

Choice of words really depend on the group of people you mix with. Social status etc. Okay, I'm old school. I hate to mention about social status thing, but, I'm sure you know how things are like in Thailand. I do know how to behave myself. There's a thing about looking good in the decent way because of the circle of friends I've here - not that I mind really!

The problem could probably (in my experience) that being western influenced, we have a different values - unless you're talking about dating Thais (possibly from bars) who are from the 'lower' social class (I really don't group, but, it's a descriptive term). That'll be different.

    Back to the topic.

That isn't a problem with me & the Thais in the dating department. I've many options, but, I'm particular picky about some stuff.

I don't know - I know too many Americans. Once they come into Thailand, they become different, typically ugly americans (as we would call them). I really don't know why - they're just different. Long time residents can be different too. especially if they're old, there's a need for stability & also to settle down.

I suspect the anger has got to be with that - this is a forum with more long term residents (after all, it's expats). And the majority of the Americans out there are landmines to begin with.

  2. Thank you Noy. You have proved that bigotry comes in all shapes, colors and sizes and from all countries.
I'm not positive, but, pretty sure. Bigotry is worst in America. :D Want examples?

The man on top ask which racial sub-group I'm from, than farang prince says I'm a racist (somehow). Irony.

I'm chinese. I don't speak Thai that well, but, wanna bet on my prospect in relationship than the farangs? Okay, you used 'some of' - so - it's far I can say I've more prospect than the majority. Unless you are counting money in your relationships, I really don't think so.

But than again, I'm doing well in the financial department.

Hmmm Noy .... So you are pretty much limited to Thais that speak Chinese. <I am limited to Thais that speak Thai. or English I guess>

No there was NO IRONY in my question at all since this whole thread is about race. Farang being a term to describe white westerners. There is CERTAINLY no irony involved when you decide to not only bring race but nationality in it :D Farang Prince did NOT call you a racist ... he called you a bigot :D They are different things! But ... would I bet on your prospects for a relationship? No! If I did it would be without knowing you as more than a bigot that claims to be a 23 y/o doctor! Not enough info! Also not enough info based upon not knowing who you are attracted to! That being said you are likely at some severe disadvantages being ethnically Chinese from Singapore. Lots of family expectations and race/gender issues there in family issues! <That is solely a generalization since I don't know your family :D > As for your prospects versus mine .... well if you are single now ... I'll take that bet! and would have been able to beat you for the ast few years :D

Anyways ... you really can drop the anti-American rant ... it is tired !

Certainly something we can expect from Americans. :o

I really don't think I'm wrong to classify Americans apart from other farangs. Many occidentals will go "stupid americans" too. It's true. Ugly Americans are much more typical than Wise ones especially in Thailand, and, it's always a good thing to skip the potential landmines (which is why I said skipping americans, anyone English will be nice). Bigot, I am. Bigot, you are. Honestly, who isn't?

There're many types of doctors, family (just as you were saying). The past few years isn't a good representative, I'm was in countless one night stands (in Bangkok, Singapore & New Jersey) although there's no signs of stopping yet. But I think it's true there's a limit in thai guys whom I'm willing to date. I can be picky with the options that I have. As far as I'm concern, Asians have a distinctive advantage (if they do blend in) of being themselves without much expectations of keeping up social status (I think I look fine in my usual academic best), &, not alway having to make the first move.

Most of the time I'll always get hitched in local bars, it wouldn't be fair to put us on competition. I can speak Thai but not as fluent as I'd hoped (I can't write), with sufficient practice I'll blend in.

It has been off-topic enough. My recommendation is still to stay away from Americans, but, consider other farangs from any of the other nations. =)

  3. You are not going to get much in that price range in Bangkok.

Even in Pattaya it would only get a very small downmarket single room apartment.

The place is very unlikely to have any facilities like WiFi.

Scads and scads of places in this pricerange within walking distance to BTS throughout BKK. My last place up there was 6500/mo plus 600 for hispeed internet (shared 2mbps line) 400 meters from Onnut BTS station. the place came with 6 channels of sat TV, 24 hours security, washing machines, drinking water machine, keycard entry etc. My room was small but had its own private entrance and a huge private walkway, patio! There were 8 other buildings on Suk 81 in the same price range! (Suk 81 is a short soi!)

I think foreigners are oftened ripped. Certain apartments should go off at only less than 5000/ month, but, foreigners are getting 10,000THB/mo for a basic apartment in Rachadapisek. Please! 8000THB gets you a quality apartment in further inwards Rachadapisek or Huay Khwang - apartments which are comparable to Pratunam house (If you've been there before).

It does help if you get a Thai friend to accompany you as you do your condo hunt. You'll avoid many unneccessary 'rips'.

Really - don't compare me with the rest. Being at 23, earning usd8,000 per month in Bangkok, cruising without much problems at at California WOW gym. It's going to be unfair to most of the farangs anyway. I'm chinese. I don't speak Thai that well, but, wanna bet on my prospect in relationship than the farangs? Okay, you used 'some of' - so - you probably meant I've more prospect than the majority. Unless you are counting money in your relationships, I really don't think so why I'm losing out in the relationship department.

But than again, I'm doing well in the financial department.

  5. Who wants to date Singaporeans - when you're in Thailand? The general guideline is to keep 5 steps away from Americans when it comes to relationship. I don't know - it's an honest oriental's point of view. Thailanders (is a common used word, mind you) fell into relationship much easier than farangs, and, most Americans are into games.

I've a much easier time than any farangs to find dates - I can't complain that much as any farangs here. Of course if a Thai knows foreigners that much as Singaporeans or Hong Kongers, they will skip Americans too. I don't hate Americans, I really don't. They simply end up breaking more hearts.

  6. If you don't want to end up getting hurt. Don't ever date an American (don't think of it too!)

Well, this thread quickly turned into a chance for people to bash farangs. We criticize some of our posters for using stereotypes when describing Thais. Well, on this thread, I have read every stereotype about farangs. Shame on all of you for regurgitating the same old swill about both farangs and Thais. Noy, I'm an American. You don't even know me. And yet you say "Don't ever date an American (don't think of it too!). Why? Because you were dumped by an American? Get over it. We had a guy who used to post here who was always warning about how deceptive and untrustworthy Thais were. Most of us rejected his arguments also.

Understanding the farang nature (Of course) - remember that this is Thailand we're talking about, is it us? It is. In general American's 're all too flaky, or erratic, or something. They're going to be too complicated for the usual Thailanders, no that I mind though. I'd never dated an American - I'll never date any americans that I know of (I know plenty of Americans) - but I will consider if you're from London, or, Europe (Except Germany). I know a handful of foreigners in my job area & the less trust-worthy folks are Americans. I was writing as a general message to the original poster, IMHO, dating Americans normally mean a higher chance of getting hurt.

For general understanding of my personal observations, note the highlighted reds in the above quote.. A typical farang (male) will seek to dominate *which kinda elucidate the original poster's friend's experience* and argue (I don't mean that farang prince is arguing, but, the temporary feelings that 1 will have - pulling the hairs out). A typical thai guy will seek to compromise (I don't think many will dis-agree), very, few Thais will argue that.

How many farangs have been taking advantage of Thai's nice manners? Hands up, anybody? I think Thailanders should just date Thailanders or Japanese man (If you will, are normally more sentimental than Farangs). I know there're nice folks here, let's just say that the group of farangs who - don't - visit the internet - are a better representative of the whole 'market'.

Better yet - date me. I'm a 23 year old Doctor from Singapore. (LOL)

Singaporeans aren't good folks to date too. Singaporeans are more like Americans - unreliable in the relationships department. I do believe that age can be a good indication, or, someone who has reside in Thailand for a reasonable amount of time (like 3 years) - who got tired from boy's chase. They'll hope to settle down.

  7. i think most members here are farang. i would like to learn about farang nature. especially gay farang. i'm thai... never been to europ or america or australia. what's character of gay farang? let's open mind talk.

i would like to know that

    a. gay farang romantic, sweet, good behaviors etc.?

Urban legend, Thai lovers are better (good manners etc). I never believe that farangs will behave better than a Thai. There may be some humble Farangs - Humble is still different from their nature. Farangs & Thais are ultimately different - Thais are simpler to understand. Personally I feel most of the Thais I met - have predictable patterns.

    b. someone told me that when farang give love or commitment to lover. they will stick that that. is that true? or just same as another straight people.

Face it. Most man think with their Androgen... Most of the farangs in Thailand because they are old & inattractive in their home country. It's no secret that most farangs are in Thailand for cheap sex.

    c. if i want to date with farang, what should i learn about? i can speak English and little bit Espanol

If you want to date a farang. You must learn how to appreciate some other things, from what I know - Thai love to have fun. Farangs love to have occasional silence (something that Thai find it difficult to understand)

    d. if farang in my dream decided to be my soulmate, what should i do? will it have a problem? It's common knowledge that any farangs who are in Thailand will expect not to make any friends. I really doubt the soulmate you have in mind, is the soulmate those farangs understand.

    e. how did i know that farang i date with serious about relationship? do you have any idea? You'll never know. Almost all the farangs are in Thailand for the wrong reasons... go figure.

thank you forward for all comment.

If you don't want to end up getting hurt. Don't ever date an American (don't think of it too!)

Even in Pattaya it would only get a very small downmarket single room apartment.

The place is very unlikely to have any facilities like WiFi.

7k gets you a good room in certain areas of Bangkok - WiFi is increasingly popular (as an additional service for condos), some condos make you pay for the hi-speed internet.

Look at 9apartments website (just observe those banners) - you'll see some decent condos which come with Hi-speed internet below 5,000THB.

To the thread starter, you'll have to increase your budget slightly if you want such a short lease. But it seems that Greenery House have what you want.

    Chok dee, Krup.

  9. of course Thonburi is cheaper - and the further you go from the river, towards Taling Chan, the more layed back and cheaper the living will be.

I just rented out my 3 bedroom holiday home to some thai family for 10 000 baht, my sister in law is planning to rent out her own home for a similar money. It's 10 - 15 minutes drive from Pinklao and from Khaosan Rd. Two air con buses go there from Khaosan Rd - but can take up to 30 minutes. Also fast mini buses for 10 baht depart from the Central department store on Phra Pinklao towards Supanburi, just past the Southern Bus Terminal.

Oh my God! you have the dream house I'm seeking for. Is those teak houses in that area going by that price?! Unfortunately, I won't want to travel down to Thonburi (it's 10-15 minutes of walk to Pinklao) and I don't drive. My immediate concern is that it must be near to the pier (so I can take the river taxi to the main island) & it must be near to Pinklao area (within reasonable walking distance to the cineplex & shopping mall).

It must be difficult to look for such houses to rent (through english newspapers or internet). ######! I wish I can relocate earlier.

  10. Dear Everyone,

Is there anyone living in Pinklao? I'm wondering how it's like living in that area. Is it true that better condos (as in the condition) are available for rent at a much lower price in that place?

One of the biggest reason I like Pinklao is because there's a california WOW gym in that area - and I can have a better living condition (meaning better comfort) at a budget fee. (below 12,000THB) The other reason is because of the British Council.. I should improve my english. (LOL) I'm serious into picking up a english lang. course there.

Can the area be compared to Lad Prao or similar?

    Thanks for your input. ^^

    Sincerely,

    Bernett

  11. Is there anyone residing in Pratumwan house? I'd personally visited the place - and has got various prices.

    My visit -

    Studio : 16,000THB

    Deluxe (1 living room + 1 bedroom) : 20,000THB

    My phone call -

    Studio : 20,000THB

    Deluxe : 30,000THB

    Mr. Roomfinder -

    Studio : 12,500THB

Have I been ripped off? or should I bargain.... or there is a mistake in Mr. Roomfinder.com?

  12. Personally, I do not like the apartments that do not offer pay your own electric and water bills. They pad up the unit charge by anything from 2 to 5 baht. It is just a way to scam some more cash out of you while trying tomake the monthly rental amount look cheap

That's my conclusion too - but they change bedsheets twice a week; which is a good point, I'm thinking of Suriwongse Condo.. they charge me 11,000THB for a big room with furniture, not exactly with a living room.

  13. What do you mean by 'gay cinema'? A cinema that shows gay movies? A cinema where you can get a quick shag in the back seats? Elucidate please :o

lol. I thought it's the same, a cinema that screens gay pornography & has many freelancers ard. :D

  14. Thanks minotaur,

Is there any other good condos around this area? Because of work - I'm thinking of staying around BTS Sala daeng area. I find that Sathorn Saint View is of good value - because there's additional room service (which i can easily pay thb 150 to someone else to clean it for me) also because the 1 living room + 1 bed room is from thb10,000 - thb12,000.

  15. Any problems I have had with bills have been settled to my satisfaction - i had a leaky cistern and after looking at a previous bill they dropped the 400B showing from the meter down to 60B.

I'd read about the abnormal discount here - which could mean a long term bills cheating on consumers. I may consider if there's more clarity if I can pay my own bills at 7-11 outlets like many other folks who reside in Bangkok.

I'm not sure - but this email can come across helpful to folks like me who're really interested in getting a room here. It's no secret that we can pay our electricity & water bills at 7-11 outlets - No?

    Hi,

We have new offers. If you stay for a year, you will get 25 laundry free every month for a year. No discount and no other offers. Apartment in Thailand is not like apartment in Europe. You can not pay at 7-11 outlets. You pay the bill as you use. Many people use more, but want to pay less. See you on 15 May.

    Thank you.

    Hello person in charge,

I'm interested in getting a room here for long term stay - is the room rates negotiatable if I'll stay for 1 year? -- The room rate does not include utility expenses, but I'd noted in the Thaivisa that many residents have problem with water & electricity bill... can I pay them myself at 7-11 outlets?

Interested stay-in date: 22nd May onwards.. I'll visit the building maybe on the 15th May.

    Thanks,
