opened my Krungthai account today and the account was credited with the tax refund. My wife asked if the refund could be credited to her krungthai account and was told no, the account name must be the same as the name on the tax refund letter from the Revenue Department.

    thank you for the info.
I am waiting for my tax refund to get approved and then probably have to do the same thing (opening a Krungthai account)

  2. I am about to move into a new house (rental) and was thinking to get a couple of battery-powered smoke detectors from Lazada. (as the house doesn't have any)

Is this a good idea? how much should I spend for a decent one?
what about CO detectors, also needed?

  3. We just bought a new Veloz (Premium version) and drove it from Bangkok to Chiang Mai with all our belongings.
There was a 3 months waitlist when we made our booking in September.
I have no major complaints about the car. It drives nicely and I like the safety features.

    Averaging around 16km/L so far.
One common complaint is that there is no cruise control, not sure if comparable Honda or Mazdas have it.

  4. Does anyone have any recent experience (in Bangkok) with obtaining a medical certificate for work permit from a local clinic, not a hospital?

(for work permit extension, not initial application)
My agent says that the labour office only accepts certificates issued by hospital now. Any truth to that?

Usually, obtaining the certificate in a clinic is much faster and cheaper. Hence the question.

  5. I just ordered a new Toyota a few weeks ago. We checked out a few different dealers and the offers were somewhat different in terms of financing rates, discounts and freebies (but not hugely).
What also helped me decide was to join a couple of facebook groups related to the car I was buying, where people post their experience and whether the dealership honored their promised delivery time.

You must be doing 90 day reports to CW immigration in order to obtain a residence certificate.

I was aware of this requirement. And I have done 90 day reports at CW in the past. So I didn't think that was going to be an issue.
    But unfortunately it was.
I am wondering how someone who is traveling frequently enough to not be needing 90 day reporting would go about getting the Residence Certificate then..

  7. TaoNow,

    Thanks for your reply.
I went to Chaeng Wattana this morning.
I did have a printout of the acknowledgement page of the last 90 day report (online).
But unfortunately for this immigration officer that was not good enough as the 90 day report was "too old" (about 1 year old, I have since traveled in/out of Thailand several times, so 90 day report was not needed).
So they told me to either wait 90 days, do a new report and then apply for the Residence Certificate, or get it from the embassy instead.

Chaeng Wattana has a firm requirement that you need to be doing 90 day reports to them to apply for a certificate of residency.

Try to do a 90 day report since you probably have been in the country longer than days. They might do one if you explain why you need to do one.

related question: I have received my ED-visa extension from Chaeng Wattana a few weeks ago, together with a notice to do my 90-day report in December. As I have never previously done 90-day reports but have stayed in Thailand now since March, do you think the visa extension essentially serves as the first 90-day report? (which would allow me to request the residence certificate).

  9. I entered on a 1 year ME non-B visa (for conducting business), permission to stay expired in June, visa is valid until October. No work permit applied for yet.
Do you think as per the new announcement, I will be able to get a new (extended) permission to stay based on the fact that I would like to apply for a work permit (and the employment office doesn't accept it if the permission to stay is expired, even if on amnesty)?

If you do not have a valid permit to stay the Department of Employment can deny accepting your application.

They should though accept it though if you are on a "automatic extension" since your original entry was from a non-b visa.

I thought so too, but my agent informed me that the Bangkok Employment Office, Area 3 told them the automatic visa extension does not work for a WP.1 application. If anyone had a different experience I would be interested in hearing about it.
