typical,, here is a hardworking guy scratching a living and is solvent, not a burden,  ( and to think his tax is giving money to absolute wasters)but its ok if you rock up on our shores on a banana boat with jack shit money in your pocket, we will give you hundreds of pounds and a <deleted> house as well .

Sickens me so unfair. Thank goodness ( I can afford a visa) to live here in Paradise with my beautiful Thai wife. Teresa May has a lot to answer for, as Home Secretary, she ruined the Police Force and now on top of that, she is ruining our once Great Country, so sad.

  2. Dave, I have recently married in BKK after starting the procedures at The British Embassy. If you are divorced make sure you produce the ORIGINAL document. The first visit I thought mine was original. Got turned away applied for a certified copy from Uk cost me £215.

Also when completing the questionnaire make sure it is 1 million % perfect following the example they show you. I made a few errors including in the word Mother's, I neglected to type the apostrophe. My Budha how fussy is that? The second attempt I managed to jump the hurdle safely. Good Luck

This link if clicked from the embassy website works.

    https://www.consular-appointments.service.gov.uk/fco/#!/british-embassy-bangkok/oaths-affirmations-and-affidavits-/slot_picker

Edit: It was spinning when I tried the link. Now to see if this works. Book an appointment for an oath, affirmation or affidavit in Bangkok

    Edit: It worked

Well done Ubon. I had the same trouble 2 months ago. I kept clicking on each day which was not available but eventually white boxes appeared. I have just tested the above site and Vacancies appear. Now married happily ever after, I hope ha ha

  4. Do not know if you can get it done in the UK.

My experience a few weeks ago I attended The British Embassy in Bangkok wanting an affirmation of Marital Status.

I had completed the On-Line questionnaire that you had to take along to The Embassy.

I fell at the first hurdle. The Decree Absolute I produced I was told was not an original. Also, the questionnaire I had completed was not exactly 1 million percent correct. One of my mistakes was that I had not typed an apostrophe in the word "mother's.

So had to return to Jomtien. Then I applied On Line to a company in Birmingham, UK, to supply me with Decree Absolute which was confirmed by them to be a copy of the original. I knew the number of the Decree Absolute and the date of issue so it ONLY COST ME £230. !!!!!!!! If you do not know those details it will cost you more.

4 weeks later I received that. I have now made an appointment again and will go to the British Embassy, BKK on the 13th of November. I have been advised if I manage to jump over that hurdle then I should go directly to The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in BKK and get The important piece of paper that I hope to get at the British Embassy TRANSLATED BY THEM. WHY because a friend had it translated elsewhere and it was not 1 million percent perfect.!!!!!!.

As you can see nothing is easy here. Maybe it is an omen for me not to marry my Good Lady, but I will keep on jumping the hurdles until I get passed the finishing Line not sure if that will be this year or next!!!

I am a retired Police Officer from the UK so I have an interest in this.

As a result of inquiries made !!!!!!! I have found the following for cars and Pick ups.

In a town center 50km per hour similar to UK.

I was informed recently that the dual/3 carriageway Sukhumvit road which runs through Pattaya the speed limit is 80 km per hour. No signs to tell you that. There are speed cameras there and traffic light cameras there. So be careful out there.

On a main road outside the town 90 km per hour. Single or dual carriageway.

On the Motorway 120KM per hour.

If there is an electronic sign advising you to drive slower then obviously do so. It is common sense. Same as in the UK sometimes the Control Room operator forgets to switch off the electronic speed indicator. Remember Speed KILLS and driving that bit faster will only get you there a few minutes earlier. Life is short and precious do not take unnecessary risks to arrive a few minutes earlier.

Plus, bear in mind and no surprise. UK and Thailand same population. In the UK on average, 6 people die on the roads every day. In Thailand so far this year 73 people killed on the roads every day.

Illuminated signs do not specify a new legal limit.

And they are not advisory but mandatory for the stretch of road that they cover.

If that is your question? (unsure because this is no different from the rest of the world that I know)

90 is the legal limit for divided highways (that are not motorways).

80 is the legal limit for undivided highways.

    Been so for ages.

The thing is that anyone who is on a government pension can prove their income quite easy and it is also easy for the embassies to be able to verify government pensions. It would not take much for each of the embassies to have access to the amounts that are paid for the different government pensions. I can print mine out of official Australian government letterhead and it tells the type of pension that I am receiving so how hard would it be for the embassies to have a list of the different government pensions to check.

Why should our own Embassies be involved? Extra work and checking etc. It will be very straightforward now showing the figures required in a Thai Bank Account. It will save us paying for this embassy letter so quids in. I believe there have been too many dodgy dealings by some persons using companies which are dishonestly showing that Farang has sufficient funds to live here. Everyone knows it goes on but nothing has been done about it until now. Thailand, as we all know, has many corrupt practices and it would appear they are trying to become more honest. A large task for sure but they have to start somewhere.

  8. JayBoy,

Perfect view and conclusion on the subject. But of course in England, they have to be so Politically correct but that is not going to catch the criminals. So that is why we see so much knife crime there especially in London. Police sadly too scared to do their job because the government is too scared to upset the real suspects. Thank goodness for No Political Correctness in Thailand and plenty of common sense. Wait a minute ! common sense when it comes to this subject but when it comes to Road Deaths in Thailand, well don't get me started on that one.

  9. Simples - In another country, you abide by the rules. You carry your passport with you OR like me, you carry a photocopy of your Passport main Page and visa details. I have lived here for 7 years and have been asked to show my Passport once. I showed copies of full details on the size of a Credit Card. It was accepted. I have been in Law enforcement for 40 years and if I was the Police or Immigration Officer and the hotel was close by I would have returned to the Hotel to check his Passport and details. Job done. But of course, some people do not "Give a Monkeys" and think they know best!! It would be interesting to know the final result of this case!

  10. Easy solution. Good and bad in every nationality. In all the Hot Spots employ Honest Litter Wardens. 500 BHT fine for leaving litter on Beach or elsewhere. Think of the Revenue Thai Government you could make and how much cleaner your Tourist Beaches would be which would then encourage visitors to return. At the moment in Jomtien and Pattaya that is not the case. Less and fewer Farangs every year because of the litter etc. Wake up Thailand once you have exhausted the Chinese visitors who else will visit your ' Prestige Beaches!'?

  11. Just shows how lazy previous Immigration and Police Officers have been in the past. Once he has sorted this problem out then put him in charge of Road safety and then hopefully we will see Big Changes here. England and Wales have approximately the same population as Thailand. There on average 6 die on the roads every day. Here in Thailand at least 65 die on the roads every day.

Rome was not built in a day and it will take a very good man and team to sort this waste of life out but give it time and hope.

  12. I have lived in Thailand for 7 years and been together with my Thai Lady for over 6 years. "She's the One" as we all say. So on her Birthday, I took her to a Local restaurant in The Jungle ( Buriram ) for a Birthday Dinner and surprise. I spoke to the very hospitable Manager/Owner and asked if he could arrange a Special Surprise for my lovely lady. We had a fabulous dinner followed by a Special Cheesecake that he baked for us. ( Just like my Mama baked over 50 years ago) Then the Special Surprise arrived. A special drink which had ice cubes in it. One of the ice cubes had a Special surprise therein. ( The Manager had been to the Tesco store over the road and purchased a 400 Bht, what looked like a gold ring and diamonds thereon) When my Lady saw the ring in the ice cube she asked "How did you know my Size" haha. I replied, "Will you please marry me?" She did not care whether it was, gold, diamonds or plastic just wanted to make sure the size was correct. haha. Fabulous evening and the Real Diamond Ring has been made for her in Bangkok together with our Gold Wedding rings which will have 3 diamonds thereon. In my view, if you know your lady well enough you should know what she would like. We are all different and the important thing is to please the one you love. It has worked for us so far. Good luck choosing your Ring(s)
