  1. You would only be able to get a single entry non-o there. Not sure what they require. I have not seen any recent report of getting one there.

But it may take up to 4 days to get it unless you use an agent, You can get it the next day if you pay an agent enough.

Thanks for you input. OK, I think I will give it a shot. I believe once you have a single entry you can get it altered here in Bangkok according to the embassy staff there.

Will let people know how it goes.

  2. Has anyone recently tried to get a Non Immgrant O visa to stay with their wife from the Embassy in Phnom Penh?

I was just looking at their website and they had a note that they would process labour visas in a day and it got me wondering if there has been a recent shakeup or not? I realise that the labour visa is an attempt to mitigate the problems with the mass exodus of cheap khmer labour that recently fled the Land of Smiles but is there any chance the embassies have been ordered to make things more friendly towards people applying for other visas in the region?

I am planning to pop over to the Penh next week and thought it might be a good time to apply for the Non O whilst I am there. Has anyone given it a crack in the last few weeks and if so, did you have any success. I had a Khmer friend call in today and this is what he said.

Anyhow, I went over to the Thai embassy and found information about your visa with the following requirements:

    . Married certificate

    . Your child’s birth letter

. Copy of your wife’s ID card

    . Copy of family book

    . Photo 4 X 6 = 2

Note: This non immigrant visa O lasts for 3 months—after that you can have it extended in Thailand, fee is 80$ and it takes around 3 days to get it.

    Anyone got anything else?

  3. The PSC in the UK ranges from £13 to £188 depending on distance and class of travel so 800bt seems quite a bargain.

But the UK is not competing with Thailand for visitors; Thailand is competing with countries like Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines and now Myanmar.

Yeah, but in Thailand the majority of visitors get a visa waiver whereas in Vietnam its $45, Cambodia $20, Laos $30ish, Myanmar $40 with only the Phillipines being free. All of those countries also charge PSCs and departure taxes so I think its unreasonable to say that Thailand is ripping people off.

The country is developing, look at all the construction and new shopping malls. There isn't a country out there who doesn't see the costs of services increasing with that kind of progress happening.

I run a travel company, and the 500 baht is harmful as it is packaged illogically, however I see no problem with the increase in the fees. What does bother me is when they come into effect... Too many times they introduce it next week or at the start of the next month when companies have quoted travel programs for months in advance. Please give us some lead time guys...

  4. I am the parent of two boys. Seeing video of two body bags on stretchers being carried off of the boat made me shudder. The horror of the thought is complete.

Doesn't matter what happens now, they have lost their little girls and nothing will ever ease the pain. Someone changed their nappies for years, sat up late when they were sick, helped them with their homework, watched them graduate school. All is lost.

Analysis here by wannabe CSI's will hurt them to read, but will be irrelevant when compared to the utter devastation they must be feeling right now. If it were me I don't know that I would even want answers, my children are gone before me, answers wont change that, or bring any comfort at all.

  5. Valid and fair point. He is out company lawyer (outsourced) so can sort out the paperwork no problem, however is not sure on the nuances of what paperwork is expected.

When I spoke to him he said that as far as he understands, I cant apply for the work permit until I return on a visa. He said that if they insist that I have a WP3 then it will mean I have to stay out of the country for 2 weeks whilst it gets sorted out.

Seems very confusing to me, and very frustrating as he doesnt seem to have any clear answers. So I came here and thanks for those who have helped so far.

Is it possible to apply for the WP3 form before I leave, if so, how long will it take to get that paper to take over to the Embassy in PNH?

    Thanks in advance.

I would be telling your company to get another lawyer....very sure you will need to submit your WP-3 application along with the other paperwork, so yes it needs to be applied for.

Embassies/Consulates want to see that the WP has been applied for.....I think there is some miscommunication/understanding going on here, as he is correct about the WP in the sense that yes you will only get that sorted out when you come back with your visa, but the application still needs to be made before going to the embassy/consulate to apply for your visa, as this supports your application

Many thanks, makes sense! As I am planning to travel this Sunday, are you aware of how long it takes to submit this application and have it back ready for the visa application over seas? Do I have enough time now to get it done?

  6. "My present employer uses a lawyer that will prepare all the necessary paperwork"

Not trying to be funny here, but shouldnt the lawyer be telling you what you need to do ?.....where to go and what to get ?.......certainly been my experience over the last 10 years....

Gave me a stack of papers, go to embassy in Singapore, hand your PP in, with paper work and pay the fee....come back next day pick up your pp and fly back, submitting expense claims when you get back.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to clear this one up for me. So the way I see it, I will go to Phnom Penh, apply for a single entry Non Imm B visa, come back in on it, apply for the work permit and get re-entry permits should I need to leave in the next 3 months. Then once the WP has been issued I get an extension on the Single Entry visa and apply for a multi re-entry permit. This can be extended annually after that.

All clear now, thanks for helping to put me and many others out of their misery.

You/your employer must apply for the WP before you leave Thailand on the Visa Run - you will need the WP application receipt (WP3) for the non B visa application at the Thai Consulate.

  8. "My previous employer cancelled my non imm B multi entry visa and WP without giving my new employer the chance to have them transferred..."

Shouldn't a multiple entry visa that hasn't been extended still be good?

"My previous employer cancelled my non imm B multi entry visa and WP without giving my new employer the chance to have them transferred..."

I think it had been extended, so there wasnt the chance to transfer it or something.

  9. Have spent hours trawling looking for the answers, and there whilst there are some out there, the fluidity of the system makes me question their current accuracy. So, if someone could spare the time to shed some light on where they believe things stand at the moment myself and I am sure many others would be really grateful.

I hold a UK passport, and have just changed jobs. My previous employer cancelled my non imm B multi entry visa and WP without giving my new employer the chance to have them transferred (really nice, as the previous one has extended them the same courtesy after they had head hunted me...). So I need to pop out and get myself a new Non Imm B visa. Can I:

    • Get a Non Imm B Multi visa in Phnom Penh or will they only issue 3 month single entry?
    • If they only do single entry, can I get this extended and changed to a Multi entry once my WP has been issued?
    • If it has to remain a single and I get it extended, will I need to obtain a 're-entry permit' every time I leave (about every 2 weeks) at the cost of about 1,000 Baht a pop?
    • Considering my needs above, is there somewhere better in the region for me to go to get this done at this present time?
    • As I am married to a Thai with 2 sons, would it make more sense to try and get an 'O' visa in Phnom Penh and get the work permit off of that?
    • If so, are multi entry versions of the O visa easier to obtain?

My present employer uses a lawyer that will prepare all the necessary paperwork, and can fax over anything else that is needed. I have also contacted a visa company in Phnom Penh but they were vague on most things so I was hoping someone had some prior experience.

Most grateful to the wise ones taking the time to share.

  10. Do you know if Mr Keo can assist with Non Imm B visas as well in Phnom Penh?

Not sure, best to email him, he usually responds pretty quickly : [email protected]

    Phone : 055 1276 7401

If calling his number from Thailand you need to call +855 1276 7401. He can do Non Imm B/O visas in about 36 hours, but suggested 48 hours to be on the safe side. ie, drop off Monday AM, pick up Weds AM but most times he can get it back Tues PM.

  11. If this is a small company owned by your wife, sole proprietor might have the advance that you don't need to register for VAT. I am not sure about your business and the size (in turnover) you will initially have, but she can do business without registering a company, just paying Withholding Tax, using he national ID. There are some restrictions you might want to check.

A Co., Ltd. has the advantage that the liability is limited if you go bankrupt, but then again, the Managing Director is liable without limitation.

Please note that you do need a work permit, if you intend to work in that company. Signing a check already counts as work, let alone contacting customers. This means that you need to register that Co., Ltd. and comply with all the conditions.

Thanks for your advice Tom. Turnover is expected to be small at the beginning, probably no more than a couple of million baht in the first year. If I have a work permit for a job here already, does that cover me for helping out in another business, or does that work permit only allow me to work for the company that applied for it? I mean, do I technically need 2 work permits in that case?

  12. Need some advice from the wise ones here. I am about to start a small business with a Thai friend (I am from the UK) and have a thai wife who could be there third shareholder. The thing is, we are really only just starting out, and initially the company will be small time. Would you advise that we go through the process of registering a Limited Company right from the get go, or does it make sense to run it as a sole proprietership for the first few months until it starts moving and then consider the options again? Whilst the expense is not considerable, it seems like a lot of effort at the start with something that is expected to grow relatively slowly. I do not expect the Thai friend to do a number on me, and once things are looking good then it will be time to lock things down a little more.

Back in the UK, often companies start out as sole traders or partnerships and expand from there, changing legal structure as they become more developed. Just wondering if it is the same here.

Dont need a work permit and no real assetts to risk at this time, in case you were wondering.

Thanks in advance for any shared thoughts.

  13. Anyone heard any further news on this? I am interested in getting a Phantom, but dont want to shell out on a second hand one if there are new ones coming out in the near future. Would appreciate any update. Is there a viable alternative here in Thailand that is still in production?

  14. Always a "GROUP" of Thai blokes bashing one farang. Never hear of a one on one fight, they are like wild dogs once they drink a tiny amount of alcohol. The Russian would of probably snapped anyone of them in half one on one, <deleted>*king cowards!!!!

OK, but if you went onto a building site anywhere in Europe at 4am as a stranger and joined in with a big group of mates who were already hammered, and then it got a bit out of hand, I am not so sure they wouldnt all gang up on you as well. From the experience I have seen of groups of mates, they do tend to stick together when one of their own is getting into a scrape with an outsider. Dont think the Thai's are any more animalistic than men from most other countries when it comes to fighting when drunk. No disrespect intended, but construction workers globally do tend to act in a more base manner, wolf whistling being another example. I saw a man get bottled in the UK one night by a group of lads in a nightclub. His crime? He asked the gang of lads to leave his extremely attractive girlfriend alone.

  15. Thanks everyone, thats great news! To be honest, in 2007 and 2008 I bought frozen turkeys and cooked them at home along with all the trimmings. Then last year my parents were over and I couldnt be bothered with all the hassle so ordered one of the 2490 THB birds with gravy and stuffing. Collected in the morning of the 25th at my local Tops, and it was in one of those large foil roasting dishes covered in more foil. Big pots of stuffing and gravy. All was so good that I decided to never again bother with all the hassle of cooking it at home. Previously I had paid 1.5k for a bird, so for 2.5k from Tops you are looking at a 1k extra costs as mentioned before. When you consider how good the stuffing and gravy was, and the fact that the bird was cooked to perfection and saved me a load of hassle with a hangover, it seems a worthwhile charge.

I sound like a PR man for Tops Turkeys dont I!! Just chuffed to bits that they are doing them again this year, and thanks for looking into it for me. Will have a look at the Villa one as well and see what they are offering. Have a great season everyone.

  16. Luang I don't think you have mentioned your weight. Are you overweight? Perhaps all you need is to eat a good regular diet with at least 5-6 small meals a day. Cut down on the alcohol with minimum hard licquor! Exercise more!

Yes and if so sleep apnea, not sleeping as well as he may think, often overlooked in diagnosis but you also don't have to be terribly overweight to have this condition..

Forgot the link Sleep apnea can change your life

Just read your update above and it sounds more like sleep apnea then ever.. People who have this have no idea it is happening you just never get good sleep though you think you are, and have to take naps etc..It can do your heart damage too so it's something to get taken care of..

Check it out could be a simple fix good luck and pleasant dreams..

I've researched the symptoms and they just don't fit. Idon't wake in the night, no sweats, i don't generally snore and i'm not overweight so i don't think it should be at the top of the list. Thanks though and will keep it on my mental list of possibles.

You don't have any idea if you're waking with this condition it's a subtle disturbance due to interrupted breathing that is a major part of it's insidious nature, it's not a conscious waking just not a deep REM sleep is ever attained. You have to be observed while sleeping by professionals in a controlled environ to be properly diagnosed.. JFYI Symptoms are just that, symptoms, and not all are applicable in every case they are general in nature.. As I said you don't need to be overweight either as it is due to your uvula in the back of throat relaxing during sleep and closing off the air way, it just happens to be more likely if you are overweight due to the narrowing of the air way caused by fat deposits.. I'd not discount it just based on some Internet information without a professional assessment....

Had a friend who suffered from terrible fatique, so went to a sleep clinic for all the tests. They determined that he was getting approximately 30 - 45 minutes of beneficial sleep per night and gave him a 'throat splint' to wear at night. Within 48 hours he was a new man, full of life and energy. After 18 months of looking at everything else Luang, wouldnt it be worth visiting a sleep clinic to rule it out as a possibility?

  17. Any one got any ideas on the best place to find a turkey for this Christmas? I know that Tops and Villa are selling the frozen ones, but wanted to get hold of one that was already cooked and perhaps even came with the trimmings for a good Christmas Lunch for Bangkok? Last year Tops did an awesome deal, with a roasted bird, stuffing and gravy at a reasonable price, but the Tops near me doesnt seem to be promoting this for 2010. Anyone know if any of the other stores are offering it? Will be gutted if not. I dont have an oven at home, so roasting is out of the question, and with two little kids, I wanted to have a meal at home rather than in a restaurant or pub (for the sanity of the other diners!)

Cheers, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all TV members.

  18. Isn't there a multi-station porn broadcast still on c-band as a subscription? I remember reading something about that ... must buy a receiver and subscribe to the service, etc.

But my C-band is still up and collecting dust. Porn would be better if I could make it work. :)

You could just reach up onto the roof, grip the satelite dish and using your over developed right bicep twist the dish around until you find the right porn signal. Remember, its all in the wrist.

Porn in Thailand is as essential as tits on a bull.

  19. A 12' C band dish would have been around 10,000 when bought so it's not something you'd normally use as a flower pot. Since it's already installed it is a matter of moving it a few degrees. The whole thing, adjustment and new LNB should cost you less than 1,000 baht. Try having a new KU dish installed, adjusted and cabled for that price.

The LNB is the "feed horn" that sits in front of the dish and collects the signal. It's different between KU and C bands.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out everyone. You can imagine my annoyance at the moment as we recently moved house, and took the multichoice dish down and brought it over to our new place. As I knew that Multichoice was on the way out, I asked a local satelite guy if I could switch it to K band and use it as a kick ass dich for UBC and he told me no way. Instead he flogged me a dead dog which has a shocking reception which breaks up every 30 seconds, pixelates and freezes. What a complete merchant banker.

Does anyone have a reliable BKK based satelite 'fixer'? My guy from On Nut area is reluctant to travel over this way. I am now living in the Rama 3, Sathu Pradit area. The guy around the corner here was the one that raped my wallet. I will need a new LNB, and the dish to be installed. Appreciate any advice given once again.
