I blame the ATM fees.

He got out a couple of weeks ago. 200,000 baht fine and allowed to leave the country.

Every time you are asked if you want a warranty say no and put the money saved away for when something goes wrong.

His family must be going through hell right now. I know people lose their mind when they commit suicide but why do it so publicly? Thankfully he did not land on anyone.

Hope it passes off safely, last night was very busy at Thapae Gate and the road down to the river, no crowd or traffic control whatsoever. Fingers crossed.

If one gets on the bus and there are no seats the driver makes someone (usually a youngster) get up, never seen one say no i put others before myself.

You can apply for Starling or Loot.io via your Smartphone/PC, block the card via the App and then get someone to stick it in the post for you
Similarly with the Clarity or Platinum Travel, as you would likely need to activate the card before use anyway. so should be safe for a family member/friend to stick it in the post for you.
You should have done it a while ago, so that it was ready for now. Now perhaps up to a couple of weeks, including the time it takes for them to send the card to a UK address and a friend/family member to get it to you by registered mail.
Thanks for the advice, i've learnt a painful lesson as my bank did charge those fees.

You just didn't plan properly.
There are a plethora of cards you can use in order to mitigate losses.
Usually the premier option is to use Halifax Clarity or Barclaycard Platinum Travel to withdraw cash over the counter at a suitable bank in order to avoid fees. The daily limit is £500 at ATM, though the Clarity may allow more over the counter.
If for some reason that doesn't work for you, then there is still the likes of https://www.starlingbank.com/travel/ debit card which allows £300 per day and levies no charges.
But if you are already with Barclays, their Platinum Travel would be a good option for you.
No fees at all and no interest on ATM withdrawals as long as you pay off the full statement balance, until 31 August 2022.
Thanks for the advice. Really should have sorted it out before coming, oh well you live and learn.

First time using a ATM in Thailand yesterday took 20,000b out, charged 220b for the privilege. Feel robbed, especially when i saw what my UK bank had charged £14 as well.

The girl got out on bail, think the lad is still inside. Probably been punished enough now, big fine and kick him out.

Hi, do check out WETRANSFER > https://transferwise.com
For transfering money from abroad to a thai bank-account Transferwise is as good as always the best option. They use the official mid-transfer rate (the mid-rate between selling/bying) and charge only a modest fee for their service. Money transfered is normally next day or day after already on the thai bank-account, and Transferwise is very transparent and informs you of every step/stage in the transfer process. Also you can 'play' the exchange rates and transfer when the exchange rate is best > so no surprises nor hidden costs - you know exactly the amount in THB that will be received.
NEW > In case you do not have a thai bank-account, Transferwise now also issues a FREE debit-card. You transfer money from your bank-account to that debitcard bank-account in THB (or any other foreign currency for that matter) at same unbeatable mid-transfer rate, and with that debit-card you can withdraw those THB at any Thai ATM.
I think i read their debit card had a £200 a month limit, the its 2%. This still must be a lot better than you get from a bank. I'm here for 6 months and bought enough cash for 2 which has now gone, i'm dreading using the atm as barclays charge about the same as the atm provider plus the exchange rate which is set by visa. Not sure it would be worth using transferwise for 4 months though. Its a bullet i just have too bite.

I prefer Chinese tourists any day to Westerners. They are better dressed. behave better and don't get into fights and not covered with tattoos. Most of the Westerners come here for sex. I try to avoid them as much as possible.
Totally agree, don't understand the dislike from miserable ex pats.

I use the blue bus regularly 20b to get from one side off the city to another is great value, limited too 3 routes though. Grab are brilliant. Not a fan off Tuk Tuks, expensive and often don't know the way. Bhat bus cheap/good if on route but can be a pain if dropping off in multiple locations before your stop. Blue and yellow taxis should just be avoided unless there are a few off you as very expensive. Thought about getting a bicycle but just looks so dangerous.

Love Thailand. Hate the fact the people have no democracy, no free speech. The Junta need to be wary this kind of thing gets world wide publicity, big business might not be so keen to invest.

Lets face it there are many of these types in Thailand and south east Asia, the sex industry really does not help so if you partake in it you might want to question your own behavior. Also write to the politicians in your own country and get convicted paedo's banned from travel for life. Don't complain unless you sre prepared to do something about it.

Last week very good. My flight out of thailand was in 3 months (had not realised) so no good for 60 days visa, let me book a flight there and sent them the flight details by email which they printed off.
