Reading some of the comments on this thread, some of you must really have been taken for a ride, but are making the mistake of tarring everyone with the same brush!
I'm 49, my Thai g/f is 32, and we compliment each other almost perfectly, with neither of us taking offence when we don't see things the same way because of the age difference. She has no idea how much money I do or don't have, she hasn't asked and I haven't brought the subject up either. She works hard, she doesn't rely on me, and if she asks for something she perhaps wouldn't have bought for herself because of the cost, she doesn't mind at all when I say no (which is a fair percentage of the time).
I love the age difference because it forces me to stop feeling and acting old, it breathes some fresh life into my ageing bones, and I feel far younger now than I did when I first met her 18 months ago. When we became involved, she told me she "chose me" because she felt safe with me, and that it was clear I would look after her (not in a financial sense), amongst other things.
But it's about the two individuals, there is not a generic answer to this.

Seriously? You make this sound "normal", I wonder if you would think it's normal if your Thai wife/gf was playing around with other guys.

Hi guys,
Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding taking out private medical insurance in Thailand? If it makes a difference, which I doubt, I'll be living in Muang Surin (Surin Province), and it will be for 2 adults and 2 kids.
Thanks in advance

Hi everyone,
I'm just about to move to Muang Surin, and will need to be set up with high speed internet very soon after my move there.
Any advice on who does fibreoptic internet in that area, and how long do they need to install it?
Cheers

My GF also is doing this, but she's smart and only invested 1,000 Baht, and is only reinvesting the profits. She won't become a millionaire by doing this, but every little helps, as they say. So far there are no problems, and she is seeing the profits come in. ????

Hi everyone,
I am moving to Muang Surin, Surin Province, and I am planning to stay there, no plans to leave.
1st Question: simple one, I am visiting for 3 weeks in a couple of weeks, am I right in thinking I do not need any Visa at all for this? I am a UK passport holder.
2nd Question: initially I want to come over on an Education ED 12 month Visa, while I wait to get a working/business visa. Am i right in thinking I just need to contact a language school and they will set it up for me? Can I trust the language schools to do this legally and properly? How much money do i need to show in a bank account? Is there anything else I need to do?
3rd Question: I plan on opening a business in Surin. As far as I can understand from the myriad of online information, I will need 2,000,000 Baht in a Thai bank Account held by what would be my Thai partner, and would need to employ 4 Thai nationals. Is that correct, and is there anything else I would need to do?
Any other advice would be very welcome, if I have got something wrong here ????
Thanks in advance for your help

Lots of incorrect info and advice given here, be careful what you believe. Lawyer - yes, seek professional advice, I now get my legal advice from a lawyer in Surin, ones in the Bangkok/Pattaya area can be too "familiar" with foreigners and may not treat you seriously.
And as an aside, my work permit took 2 months to come in from the date I started looking into it, and in retrospect I could've done it in 2 weeks with all the correct information that I eventually put together. I did it on my own... well, with the help of a Thai friend of mine.
I run 3 separate business under one company name: 1 selling Thai desserts, 1 in real estate, and 1 in cosmetics, all in Thailand. To open the company, the info given here is correct, a Thai national(s) has to hold 51% initially, but I (actually not me, the Thai national) only needed to show 1,020,000 THB in a bank account, not the 3 million said on this thread.
