I recall entering First, middle, last name on the application. What payment method did you use?  I used Payoo and was approved the same day.  Not sure if it was the issue but if you entered Last name then first name, I'm guessing your application didn't match your name of your credit card?  Maybe try paying again or use another method to pay.  Good luck

Just a quick follow up. I got my evisa today. People, enter first name and then middle and last name. It took 3 business days to arrive. Thank you for your help @howlee101 much appreciated.

Thank you for being so helpful. I followed your instructions about how to enter the name. I had 3 separate goes at it but finally I found a credit card that worked. I used Mastercard before, this time a visa credit card. Current status is "processing". I'll let you know the outcome. Cheers.

This is the link I used for the wife and I.  Of course she has a Thai passport so she didn't need a visa.

    https://immigration.gov.vn/

Careful because many links will say "evisa" but they will charge you to do what you can easily do on your own.

Hi, I tried doing this today but the instructions contradict each other. It says you must enter your name as in the ICAO line in your passport. In the passport it is surname first followed by first name. However in the application itself it says first name then last name. So I tried it the first way with the ICAO line. I went to payment and my payment was rejected. Do you recall how you entered your name on the actual application? It just contradicts itself? Thanks.

  4. Did the extension today. My apartment gave me a lot of paperwork just in case. Took about an hour on my own. Needed a photo, copy of visa and current entry stamp full pages, bio pages of passport TM30 from apartment and they handed me a form to fill in. I did it on my last week and 30 days extension granted. Thanks for all the comments.

If a 2 week prior extension will still be enough to cover your holiday, why not go 2 weeks prior? Or even 10 days prior? Never wait till the last days to get things done, plus make sure there's no Thai government holidays coming up during your time in question.

I want and need the full 30 days extension on top of what I have been allocated with, so I better go in the final week.

  6. I have got conflicting information on when I need to go and extend my tourist visa.  Some say 2 weeks prior,  others say within a week of expiry.  What is the right answer? I am asking here because it is specific to Jomtien office only, thank you.

  7. Thanks for the replies. When I checked into my apartment the first thing I told my manager was that I have come on a 60 day tv and I will be extending the visa and will be requiring the TM30 details. They said no problems,  when I am going they will supply it. They lodge everyone's details at these apartments so I am very happy about that. I will post an update once the extension has been made, thanks all.

  8. I drink in the afternoon in regular bars as well as restaurant bars around the soi Buakhao area and I  have never been refused a drink between 2 pm and 5 pm. In fact I go home about 4 pm after quite a few beers. Whilst drinking I am in a position to observe at least 6 bars apening around 12 pm all sell alcohol. The only places I get refused is the 7/11's and Family Marts.

You are whining about 200 Baht.

Are you sure Thailand is the right place for you?

Well that's a pretty stupid comment.  200 baht is a good meal and a beer. Now if someone was changing $1,000 then that would be 2,000 baht less. Up to you but I'd rather have the extra bahts anyday.

Who would hand the money over without knowing the

exchange rate offered,if I did that I would be too ashamed

to post it on here,  A money exchange with no rates displayed .......????

    regards worgeordie

As I said,  for many years I went to this exchange booth. As soon as I got out of the taxi I needed some more bahts and went to my regular exchange booth. They were always one of the best, now they are no longer. It was a mistake, that's all and everyone needs to be aware of it. Things do change.

Yes easy mistake the two best ones on buakhao by Rcon bar have changed so i guessed exchange rates wouldn't be as good. Best thing to do is on arrival go to airport basement to SuperRich, but let's be honest who's in the mood for that on arrival

SupeRich down there now? I didn't know that, thanks for the tip.

why would the thai landlord raise the rent to something the bar could not handle?

just stupidity or is there some other reason this appears to often happen?

    could be a prelude to forcing them out and finding a reason to keep the deposit;

There are other reasons. There is a group of 6 bars in a complex that I know of in Pattaya klang. One of them was successfully run by a farang for severals years. They basically charged 10 baht a beer less than the other Thai run bars and were getting most of the farang customers.

The Thai bar operators were jealous of his success. They then lobbied the land owner to force up his rent and he did. They all got together and forced him out. He closed up shop. Now they are all Thai run and all charge the same price.

Being a farang puts you at a disadvantage all the time.  That's why I've never owned a bar here.

It may be a surprise to some when some long standing bars, with a successful history, announce their closure, due to a decline in clientele, and a rise in expenses, which are both out of their control.

No, it's not out of their control entirely.

Rents maybe so but the decline in clientele I put down to 3 things.

    1. The quality of their food has gone downhill. Usually because good chefs move on to a better paying jobs. They get tight (kee nee ow) small portions. Not like it use to be.

    2. Their prices are too high. Ie: why pay 190 for a cottage pie when you can buy similar in another place for 129?

    3. Awful service by the staff. Ie: Can't speak English "no hab". Or playing with their phones whilst on duty. Not welcoming guests coming in, etc.

If that happens to me at any of the restaurants I go to then I wouldn't go back. One of my favourite places I go into already have a large Leo in a condom with the top off as I walk in off the street. Best service I get anywhere in the world.

The places that go broke either didn't secure a good long term lease at reasonable prices or refuse to move with the times or train their staff properly. Their problems not mine, plenty of choices in Pattaya, customers move on and their businesses fail.

Don't forget the topic title: Bar with 50 Baht beer all night.

    Many happy hour offerings.

Arrhh, they scrapped the happy hour times to all day AND night, that's why there's no times on it. And to verify  I paid 50 baht a drink at 11 pm not long ago.

Here's another one mentioned before.  Large Leo's 60 baht, all day and night right on soi buakhow, near Chunky Monkey.

Certainly everything you desire is only meters away in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City.  This is the same with the CBD's of Danang and Nha Trang.  What couldn't you source in HCMC?

Ok, so I am a bit of a fitness fanatic and do 10 km to 15 km hard walks each day. The only decent place to do that was in the big park there. All doable but going around and around can get monotonous. The streets are bad though, a bit like soi buakhow at 6 pm. Heavy traffic and no where to go at times. The beachfront walk here is better for that.

The other thing was a decent big supermarket like Big C. Plenty of small 7/11 types but nothing big. I did find a mall about 5kms away but it's supermarket was small.

HCMC was ok, I think it's a good place to do a visa run. The 2 streets off Bui Vien had some great restaurant/bars there. Can easy do a week there again in the future.

Take The Butcher's Arms for example.

You keep bringing this place up. Do you know it is now a Prime Hamburger restaurant? How smart do you think they are opening up next to a McDonalds and Hungry Hippo? My guess is, once again someone hasn't done their homework.  The place is empty all day and night. If this place lasts 6 Months I will be surprised.
