The problem with that is that if it is a emergency situation, you won't be getting on any plane. As we get older, things can change very quickly from one day feeling great...to the next in a emergency situation, one never knows unfortunately.

Don't forget your good travel insurance policy. Lordy, Lordy, Lordy....I feel a GFM in the future.
Seriously...don't travel without a comprehensive policy.

I think the best thing for mum is if he stays in Thailand. He is the type that is going to make his mum's life miserable, soak her for everything she has, and then blame her when she can't do more. He was this way before he left the UK, and will be this way when he returns. She has probably been the most at peace while he has been away. I feel sorry for her, not him. It is easy to see his ways, it's all about him, he doesn't care about anyone else, and will make them feel guilty when they can't continue providing for his immature self. Wouldn't be surprised if drugs are involved. Classic case. Good luck to mum.

So he spent all his money, is slumming off a friend, and wants mom to come to the rescue and spend money she doesn't have. Leave his sorry azz there and let him figure it out. May be a good lesson of life for him that there are no free rides. Otherwise, he will continue doing this his whole life.

This is a constructive list that hopefully will be read by, or forwarded to, the decision makers.
Yeah...don't forget the TM30 sitdown between civilians and the authorities. Look how well that worked. Thailand cares about one thing...how much money this will generate for the junta. Self funding, money in ones bank, offshore policies, credit card policies, etc etc, don't feed the buddha.

So people work for months to save for their trip, plan for months, spend money on expensive plane tickets, book hotel rooms, travel for as much as 30+ hours to get there.....and all the time wondering am I going to be let in or sent back home. Seriously, is it worth the stress, time, money aggravation?

Quite a story. That was a lot to go thru. Best suggestion, steer clear of Thailand. There are much better places to go. Why would anyone even think twice. That situation is just totally ridiculous.

Carry the entire prescription in your carry on bag. Don't take the chance of it going missing out of your checked luggage, or your luggage getting lost. Always a good idea to bring the printout of the medication from the pharmacy with you in case you should get questioned. Thirty day supply is no problem.

Many threads on this issue. If you have been reading TV for a year, you should be aware of them.
No where is perfect, all have plusses and minuses. Many times the best place is ones home country and just spend winters away etc if one doesn't like the cold.

You are fortunate you have that available. That savings alone covers alot of any cheaper cost of living expenses in Thailand. And you have the peace of mind of 1st class free coverage. Easy choice.

I am 69 and just renewed with Aetna (formerly BOOOOOPA) for 72K. It is 100% inpatient, and the coverage is <deleted> for anything serious, complicated and lengthy.
Aren't you concerned tho that under those circumstances, that you really aren't "insured"?
Perhaps you would be better off with no insurance. Insurance is for things that you cannot cover for out of pocket, ie, serious, complicated, and lengthy. Now you are paying 72k for noncomplicated issues, which if those things were to occur, you could self pay with the 72k if you didn't bother with the insurance and just paid oop if and when they arrive. Either way, you aren't covered for the "serious" incidents should they happen.
All in all, your in a dangerous position of not being covered for major illness in Thailand and the older one gets, the more likely of the occurrence.

in Thailand, and I never missed Thailand for one day.
I live on the pension now,no super,no house,I have free health care
subsidized electricity, bus fares, have cheap rent, and can still afford to
go in holidays to Thailand twice a year, I would not be able to afford
health insurance in Thailand since I am over 72 now, and I still read TVF
just to keep up with information about visas and so on.
I don't own a heater or air con, I just put on an extra jacked in winter.
We in spring now (fall) the temperature was 26 today and forecast for
tomorrow is 34 so whats wrong with that?
I say good for you. Sounds like you are living a good life with everything you need.

The increasing visa nonsense in Thailand eats up a lot of time and money. Prices for goods are actually pretty expensive. You can get far healthier, fresher, and pesticide-free food at much better prices in supermarkets such as Lidl and Aldi. Alcohol is significantly cheaper in most European countries.
Sure, services are far cheaper but how many massages and haircuts do you really want? The amount you pay for medical and dental services appears to be rising.
I suppose, yes, sex is the ultimate service, I don't suppose anywhere in Europe provides such easy access to sex, but I have to admit that clean air strikes me as more important these days.Sex and cheap housing costs. Take those away and see what happens.

Make sure you have funds set aside for medical/surgical/dental emergencies, and possible health insurance if you can get it at 70 years of age.
I wouldn't leave home at 70 if can't afford medical coverage.

Good for you for being part of and enabling the corruption that is Thailand.
Now as far as the part that you want to return for more after that episode is a wonder.
Good luck. Don't forget there are plenty of good and more honest countries around the world with more to offer.

Not a pensioner but will have a go at answering.
Had spent many years of visiting Thailand for holidays, enjoyed them.
Then moved there, mostly because the weather a far more attractive proposition than the UK, I had become fed up of dreary cold winters.
Other attractions also.
Living in Thailand coming to an end for me, chosen Italy as a main base.
Chilly winters though so perhaps Thailand/Vietnam or someplace else for a mild and not cold winter climate.
Sicily in winter...amazing place.

It's Thailand...it's surprising you can cook your own food and serve yourself without getting in trouble. Serving others without a work permit...hell no.

Looks like someone didn't get the "Good Guys In-Bad Gus Out" memo.
I assume your wife is full knowledge of how you obtained the funds... if so she is as guilty as you benefitting from money obtained criminally. Hope you both get what's coming to you.

no one claims vaping is healthy, it's less unhealthy then every alternative.
Believe that if you like.... people don't start smoking and come down with cancer the next day. But people are facing lung issues much sooner from vaping than those who smoke cigs. Believe what you want. I would say come back in 30 years and lets see what the vapers are going thru, but we are already seeing the results very soon after they start. Too each their own, People can do with their lungs what they want.

I guess so much for the thread several weeks ago when everyone was bantering on about any assets acquired after marriage were to be split 50/50. Am thinking more of the house here than the car as the house is in her name.
