Thus, operating shops selling weed for recreational use can only be owned, operated, and profited by locals moving forward is the real underlying message here. Fine, if that's the real agenda then stop pretending that wide spread use of cannabis in Thailand is harming society, is damaging public image, is a health and safety risk, blah, blah, blah. If it is all just bluster to simply squeeze foreigners out of a hugely lucrative US$1 billion business that they want the locals to dominate then they should stop all the buffoonerous flip-flopping about the cannabis laws and stop pretending it's all about cannabis being a health and safety risk to local society.
Also, nothing new in Thailand. So all the foreign run cannabis businesses will now have to bring locals into their businesses to insure the locals are getting a larger piece of the pie. This is actually something that has been done for years. Bring in foreign knowledge and experience to start with in order to develop an industry new to Thailand and once the locals have gleaned all the skills needed to do it themselves then they no longer feel they need to exploit the foreigners now involved who taught them the new techniques and methods to grow a new industry that they had no knowledge of before.
Also, Srettha, and the rest of the PT goons, are probably only acting as if they want to make it an illegal narcotic again because they are pandering to their base of anti-cannabis supporters. At the end of the day they know the cannabis genie is not going back in bottle, but, when the laws aren't changed later, then they can at least say that they attempted to live up to their campaign promises, but they were blocked by other uncooperative parties in the coalition. It's always about the blame game and not about having any morals or values, doing things they claim are in the best interest of civil society, or even doing or achieving anything that they originally promised. It's always only about individual personal interests of "public servants" and political arse covering.
In other words, it's career politicians playing politics. That's what they do in every country on Earth.

Im not telling you my favourite beach,
That's the best idea!
I started travelling in Asia over 50 years ago and was early enough to enjoy many beautiful, unspoilt beaches. The "hippies" discovered so many fantastic out of the way places...... unfortunately people ruin the reasons for going there. We've loved these places to death!
Cases in point : nearly every beach in Bali, Phuket, Koh Samui.....the list is too numerous to mention everywhere that has lost it's originality. Bars, resorts, shops, roads, traffic, the maze of cables, the influx of people all contribute to deculturing.
Keep your secrets!

I'm interested to see where his money trail leads. Who are his associates?
So far, nobody has come out in public to give him a character reference.

I find it hard to fathom that there are apologists for this arogent and violent self entitled couple.
My wife has been listening to Thai podcasts all day. This guy has a lot more unsavoury stories behind him, including abuse and guns.
1,000,000TB a month rent indicates a vast source of wealth. It will be interesting to learn what is the source of his cash flow.

And just in case you aren't aware, Germany announced yesterday that it is legalising recreational cannabis.
Perhaps this is a chance for the Thailand government to modernise it's outlook and align it's laws with Germany's cannabis legislation structure.

I'm disappointed that there is no photo of the entire local police force doing the big point at the culprit! 🙁

I was "backpacking" around the world back in the early to mid 70s before it was called backpacking.
My greatest fear was running out of money. However, unforseen circumstances lead to me running out of money a few times. In India, in Holland and in Singapore. I won't elaborate on the circumstances, but I would like to say that I got through these difficult circumstances through the kindness of strangers and I have always felt a deep thankfulness and genuine appreciation for those good souls who chose to help me both in cash and in kind.
Later in life I had developed work and business skills that generated employment and millions of dollars.
I have never forgotten those hard times and the help I was given and I've endeavoured to show kindness in it's many manifestations as life goes by. It's up to us to make this world a better place.
There must be a lot of troubled souls on this forum, judging by the cynical, uncharitable, self centred unkind comments.

Sad old dinosaurs can baulk all they want; weed made legal was a boon for Thailand, a real move forward. This illegal gov reneging on that puts it firmly back into old tyrant dinosaur territory.
"Illegal government" is easily the most important issue!

What is the cheapest and most reliable method of transferring money from an Australian Bank to the Bangkok Bank (in Thailand)?
I have downloaded the app "Instarem". It is part of the Travelex/Nium international money transfer network.
I make the transaction to my nominated recipient's Thai bank account. The rate and fee are set before the transaction. So there are no surprises.
Once the transaction is confirmed I transfer the amount of Australian $ to Nium's bank a/c from my bank by Osko. The transfer is immediate. Within seconds I am notified that the money is in the nominated Thai bank a/c. No bank fees at the Thai end.
I do this regularly every month for family maintenance.
Once you install the app with your recipient's information it becomes a very easy and quick process.
You will have to check the rates compared to other transfer agents yourself.

Rice pledge which was a really good policy and several times over the years it would have paid dividends. Greedy currupt officials stole not her. She called an election and as I said before land was sold and a coup. If you think that the crime of the military taking power at the end of a gun is ok then persecuting any and all who stood in their/his way is ok please get your moral compass checked. Personally it sickens me to my stomach. The persecuted nurse who witnessed the murder of unarmed civilians under the order of general........... sick.
Yes. I agree. The Generals strongarmed their way into polital power and manipulated the law and judiciary to the detriment of not only the elected politicians, but every Thai citizen. And, whether you realise it or not, that overbearing self serving power base is still alive and well!

Don't tell me they are going to fly people around the world for something like this----she has probably had (being kind) many customers, none would have been younger then her ,
so all were braking the criminal code of Thailand, and places like the USA etc.
This hot shot policeman gets a lot of publicity, while solving crimes--maybe he should be put on something high profile, like Murder, now who could he track down that murdered one if his colleagues.
Or maybe would it be safer to stay with a Bar Girl crime......
That's a very good point! Why not chase down Boss instead of a petty prostitution client?.... it's just B.S. theatrics.

I've had extensive dental work done at BIDC, but their prices are now high.
I did extensive research last year and sent my panoramic opg x-ray to 20 different dentists in Australia, Thailand, Turkey and India.
After receiving responses and checking customer reviews :
by far the best and most affordable clinic for serious dental work is Dentzz in Mumbai.

Thailand Set to Recriminalise Cannabis Amid Expert Outcry
in Thailand News
Posted
I've just come back to Thailand from Australia where medical cannabis is now available on prescription from online doctors and distributed by online pharmacies. It seems mostly to be imported buds from Canada.
I guess the Australian licenced growers and processors will catch up with supplying the market. Certainly illegal growers are being displaced in the marketplace.
It's a state by state legal story, but from my observation there is no notable changes in society wherever the laws are soft towards cannabis.
Notably, Germany has recently decriminalised cannabis.
Just chill out all you moralistic naysayers. Take it easy. Stop bastardising people who want to smoke cannabis. After 60 years of the failed war against drugs all that has happened is that cannabis has become popular worldwide and is becoming normalised in many parts of the world. IMO here in Thailand it is politics at play with career politicians beating up an issue.
