Here is a fun fact I used an appraisal site godaddy This site was appraised for more than $2 million dollars. Now it is worth the price of a used car.

OK I won't answer any more questions.
Sorry about that.
Will the actual owners ever show the common courtesy to give us the tiniest amount of transparency or just hide behind their spokespeople?
Of which none seem to be able to answer the simplest questions.

Long ago when I joined TVF there were many interesting topics started about such Thaicentric things as night life and ladyboys etc. In recent years they appear to no longer be a subject suitable to post on TVF, though when one does get posted it generates a lot of replies, which indicates to me that such things are still of interest.
I have my theories as to why they no longer appear, but better not post them.
The death of this site will simply be the birth of another.

We feel your pain but have zero control over the "look and feel" of the site (hence all the mushrooms).
Do try clearing your cache and cookies, my Test User is seeing the right hand panel with (reasonably) up to date entries.
Clearing the spam that makes it through to the forum (you really don't want to see how much is automagically removed) is a manual job, we do it as fast as we can. Honest.
If you are the people running the site it boggles my mind why you don’t have control. If your involvement in the site is not in the capacity of the higher ups I am not sure why a mod would answer these questions. Somebody is in control of this site it just doesn’t happen to be you.
Will the real owners and admin of the site ever make a public statement that’s the question. I have liked you Crossy in the capacity of what you do but you are not shedding any light on this..
Can we get the owner(s) to at least acknowledge that us users a exist for just one time?

IMO TVF is primarily a web site for people living in LOS that need information about stuff like visas and marriage / divorce in LOS etc. I don't see how it can become "innovative" and still deliver that content. I use the "where is the best pizza in Pattaya" thread as an example of what seems to be in demand on the local subforums.
You seem to be advocating that it becomes something completely different, which may allow the ad generating content to carry on, but it won't be TVF any more, IMO.
The probably longest running thread is on The Pub, but it might have not lasted very long if catering to a different demographic.
If TVF goes "young" it's just another thing lost to my generation in an unfriendly world.
Interesting that you use facethingy as an example of what to aspire to- IMO it's the most vile thing ever inflicted on humanity, and if it's a choice between that and ending I'd prefer ending. I certainly would never have joined a web site like that, and I don't think I'm alone in that viewpoint.
You are missing the point that if there is no change the site wojn’t exist and everything you want becomes a moot point.

Why should TVF kow tow to the younger demographic? I have zero interest in youth oriented channels on tv, and would never watch them because IMO they cater for the lowest common denominator, and are quite annoying.
The main poster demographic on TVF IMO would be older male farangs, as they are the main farangs living in LOS, and TVF is mainly about THAILAND topics. World news was just one of many subforums, though probably the most interesting one, and I certainly spent more time on it than all the rest put together.
Personally, if TVF became a youth oriented website I can't see it surviving in the current format at all, though the subforums dealing with Thai information and DIY etc might survive in some other forum. I can't be the only reader that finds youth oriented media tedious and boring. There are already plenty of forums that cater for the younger demographic, and I can't see how subforums that adv÷ vgcxdz÷≥ise posters where to find the best pizza in Pattaya could even be made ≥/.≤//more interesting for younger people not actually living in LOS.
Because they have to if they wish to survive another decade. The site revamps now are akin to Henry Ford trying to build a faster horse instead of a car. This place is going to go the way of the old BBS boards. That’s essentially what it is. In the tech age you innovate or you die.
Pattaya pizza threads will never be interesting to most people. However look at the food porn thread. One of the most popular threads on the site on what normally is a quiet dead end road on the site. It’s popular because.... it has pictures. It is also an agreeable thread. But here is a hint people like pics.
Facebook was a space simply for Harvard alumni, look at it now. In it’s current iteration TV is a dead man walking. It either has to evolve into something you don’t seem to like or it simply won’t exist.

I disagree with you on some things, 7by7, but I am surprised that they have deleted all the archived topics. What was the reasoning behind that?
With that much content, they were getting a bunch of free pageviews from organic Google searches. Why throw them away?
An example I can think of is an old forum Joe Rogan had. He deleted it and it’s entire content permanently. He did this when the site turned nasty during the 2016 election. He obviously didn’t want to be associated with any of it any further.
His site was a .lot more free and had more controversial content but why leave the risk of being associated with anything these days if there is no upside?

I think it’s more like the amount of clicks and unique visits a site gets helps set the price of the ads. I think the advertiser would only pay if a user actually clicks through. Think of the grand daddy of them all Google. Who would pay Google for a click on their site? You would pay for a click linking to your content.

However, the forum was popular; whilst some topics had less than 1000 views, many had tens of thousands. Did this popularity not generate revenue?
From the replies here it seems that more people share my view than yours. So I guess the question is; should the management provide the type of forum the members want? After all, if it doesn't people will go elsewhere. The less traffic the forum receives, the lower the revenue.
So you think they should also get rid of all forums not directly related to Thailand?
That is most of them! How, for example, is Entertainment news. The latest showbiz, celebrity and entertainment news from around the world" or "In Your Face! Have your say on popular trending topics currently in the world. Quirky, fun, interesting."
There's the Regional Forums covering countries in S.E. Asia other than Thailand. Should they go?
Indeed, but I'm a member here and enjoyed the banter and discussions with other members; including those with whom I disagreed.
Although we don't pay directly, we are this sites customers in the same way that a commercial TV station's viewers are it's customers. No business ever made money by telling it's customers to go elsewhere!
OK, you didn't care for it nor the discussions therein. But it was popular. Should the forum be run solely for your benefit?
You have this mistaken. The advertisers are the customers. The users of TV are the product. In this sense it’s why TV will never go out of it’s way to please the users.
TV will have trouble because the target demographic is an older crowd that doesn’t want the FB sort of vibe. Many users here think that TV isn’t actually a social media site. So there is limited innovation in regards to messengers, posting pics and memes is discouraged, they hate you linking things, it’s simply way too asynchronous for the times it lives in.
In order for Tv to live another decade they need young people to join. Young people don’t tend to gravitate towards walls of black and white text they prefer animated colorful rich multi-media platforms.

As I asked in the OP: "If ThaiVisa management no longer wanted to pay for World News content, why could the forum not have been left open for members to post free content and comments on same?"
Because that would be way too democratic. World News was a tightly controlled ecosystem with nothing more than a trickle of Reuters to drive a very selective narrative. They could easily just add a section for politics and let users make threads like any normal site on the planet does.

That's not quite how it works.
You can't ask some 30% of your population to go lock themselves in a room and never come out. How exactly would you enfore this?
Furthermore, it's a collective responsibility. A 16 year old may catch it, be fine - but he could pass it on, and it gets passed down the chain until someone infects a vulnerable person. That's why it's vital you stop the transmission.
You can’t enforce it which is the entire point of the article. You know what culls the weak more than COVID? Worldwide economic depression.

The anti-Trump movement is astroturfing and gaslighting.
There will be an effort to contest the election. We are hearing that voter fraud is not a factor, whereas there are actually thousands of cases.
People in the inner city that can not afford to just move to a suburb are terrified of the new normal in blue cities.

Why would he put someone being called a centrist by every liberal rag in the Country on he Supreme Court when he does not have to? Why would he allow the Democrats their dog and pony show before an election when he does not have to? Why would he put someone who is not solidly conservative on the court- even conservative picks do not turn out to be conservative justices in the long run sometimes - as you really do not know how they are going to fall on cases that draw the national interest. You are making a hypothetical here regarding how a vote would have fell out - it is more likely that the Senate would NOT have confirmed him as it would have required Republicans all to violate the reason they are elected which is to confirm Conservatives to the Court - not quasi conservative liberal - we are not sure - middle of the road - maybes. Conservatives - we all know one when we see one. Especially in matters of how to apply the Constitution to the law.
The dems just don't seem to get the fact that many people are now immune from their whining and opinions. You can only cry so often when you don't get your way before you get ignored.
Now is not the time for negotiations and political good will. Now is the time to do what you promised your voters you will do and that was one of Trump's main platforms, to appoint judges. He has done so at a historical pace.
Joe won't even let us know who he is thinking of because we all know he would probably try AOC (joking here, sort of) or some other nutcase.

His term ends in January whether he likes it or not. This is much ado about nothing. He can continue to contest the results after that should he want to but he will no longer be president at that point. This is a story that should be simply put to rest. Unless you believe the military will back Trump in a coup.

Not sure why people bother pretending to be concerned when their political opponents die? It's sort of pathetic and I think we should be more grown up then pretending we are grieving and sending our prayers. I don't give a rat's ass. There I said it.

I think a whole lot of businesses are going to be in trouble, especially restaurants and bars. Indoor dining is really quite dangerous and bars, whether indoor or outdoor are problematic. People drinking tend to socialize and meet new people. Alcohol also changes social behavior.
In the area where I am most familiar, people have always enjoyed dining out. Restaurants were good business. You seldom saw one close down. There are a fair number of retired people and they enjoyed eating out and also when family came it was always a trip to a restaurant. It wasn't uncommon to see tables moved together to accommodate large crowds. It wasn't about eating, it was about socializing.
Restaurants, even successful ones, operate on a small margin of profit per meal, so it takes a large volume of customers.
I avoid going to places to dine in. People don't wear their masks properly and you tend to get herded together in the entry while they find a table that is socially distanced. It defeats the whole point when the bottleneck is in the front of the restaurant.
I also would rather gouge my own eyes out with a red hot poker than engage in indoor salad bars with everybody touching the food. Talk about a gigantic Petri dish of viral infections.

oowee
This is why Sizzler is going bankrupt. The unsanitary conditions of a salad bar are a big no no at this time. Anywhere that heavily relies on buffet style dining or salad bars is going to have trouble.

A total of 61 SCOTUS Justices have been nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court since 1900. 70%, or 43 Justices, were confirmed in under 46 days (the number of days remaining until the election). I'd call that good odds. We'll have to see what Nancy has in her quiver.
They don't even have to hold hearings if they don't want to. They will do. it just for show and the result will be predictable. A partisan smear campaign and then each respective party will vote strictly along party lines. A few strays scared of the election will vote not to confirm or present.
It's pretty much a done deal. The dems can argue what they want to all day long everyday but opposing opinions won't change the reality that a new SJC will be appointed. As far as Pelosi goes she should stick to business in the house and stay in her lane.
