  1. I wonder if the buffering problem (little rotating arrow) is related to the resolution.? Streaming services know if the download is going to a phone or PC and adjust the resolution accordingly. Youtube also do this. So the phone resolution will be low and thus requiring lower bandwidth, whereas the laptop will probably be high resolution (possibly HD) and will require higher bandwidth. If this is so when the phone is connected as the source you may well find the picture quality on the laptop will not be good. If you can't stream/watch any movies on the laptop without buffering you could well look at the speed your ISP is providing you with. There are many speed test widgets/websites available to use to check, just google speed test. You could take your laptop to a friends who you know has a high speed connection and can watch movies without buffering, if your laptop works OK there, then it is probably your internet connection being too slow.!
  2. May well be not in correct forum but someone will move it. FYI Obviously needed the family to be vaccinated, ASAP, but rejected sinovac. So September after checking, only vaccine available sinovac - sinovac. October (early) sinovac - AZ offered. November (early) AZ - Moderna offered, accepted and booked in for Thursday last. Arrived 10am (San Patong hospital) Vaccine administered, Moderna, back in 2 weeks for second. Bit of a guessing game but good result in the end.
  3. It's a bit 'wild west' here in Thailand. The PEA, or whoever your supplier is, are only interested in 2 things. 1: Getting the power to your meter, beyond that they don't really care much. 2: Getting the revenue that the meter generates. By far the biggest issue here with domestic power supply is proper earthing. Colour coding is somewhat irrelevant as long as the active, neutral and earth are correctly identified, and the cabling is of sufficient size to carry the load. Whilst ring circuits do have good points, eg: plugs carrying fusing appropriate to appliance load, UK is out on their own there, and these days their disadvantages out weigh their advantages. Far better to have multiple power circuits, max 16a loading and multiple lighting circuits, max loading 8a. Of course all protected by earth leakage circuit breakers, one or two for power, lighting may be included on one of these, and a separate one for the hot water. But definitely connected to proper effective earthing. Earthing is your 'safety watch it' .! As is RCDs (residual current devices) safety switches. Thus I would suggest, wire up the house with many circuits with small loads, then if the need arises you have the capacity to add more to any circuit. Then if a fault does develop you loose only one circuit, whereas on a ring feeder you loose everything beyond the fault, if not the whole ring.! And do ensure you have good earths, multiple earth spikes in and around wells. soaks and septic tanks, (permanently wet areas) all linked together.
  4. "You know it is home quarantine in Sydney 14 days or until a negative COVID-19 test is received after 7 days for full vaxed people? " Be aware Sydney (NSW) has just changed Premier (the old one got caught up in the anti corruption commission), the new one is a 'let it rip'er, it's entirely possible by the time you are to go to Sydney the rules may have changed. Some states (for interstate travel) already have the neg PCR test before entry, again on entry and 1 day/night home quarantine, allowing time for the second PCR test result, then freedom if not infected. This same procedure is likely to be the case for international fully vaccinated PAX when the borders open, unvaccinated will still need 14 days quarantine, but may not even be allowed on a plane so could be a moot point.
  5. There are lots of us out there who hate win 10 and won't go there, instead successfully still running win 7, which has many advantages, like being much less the target for virus and hacks. Mine still gets updates occasionally. You may be able to fix your 'Line' issues by installing it again, that is do not remove the program, just try to download and install it, you will probably get the message 'program already installed but a newer version is available' they would then offer you the update, just click update, then you won't loose any of your photos or messages.
  6. Led Lolly Yellow Lolly is correct in describing a potential problem with the fuse/circuit breakers of the transformer, especially if they carry a high load for long periods of time. As you can see from the photo there are 6 fuse/circuit breakers, 3 for the circuits heading left and 3 for the right hand side circuits. However either or both circuits do not supply just one dwelling, many houses would be fed from both circuits. Thus if your problem is not experienced by other households on the circuit you are on, you could eliminate the transformer fuse/circuit breakers as the problem. The same principle can be applied to your house circuits, if all circuits in the house are effected, then you could well look at the supply cable, meter and street fuse as well as your main switch, safety switch and fuse. If other circuits in the house work OK when the kitchen circuit plays up, that would suggest it is only the kitchen circuit that is the problem.
  7. For what it's worth I have a Toshiba P870 laptop, very old model now. It's so big, powerful and reliable I use it as a desktop. It has specs that are still the envy of many middle range laptops. It's so big and heavy I don't know how they can call it a laptop. And I've even got the TV on it, built in tuner. But it's obvious advantage here is it's battery, no need for any power/battery back up system, depending on use it can last way longer than an hour on battery. Maybe only 1 hour if your watching movies. And if it gets low, it won't turn off, it just goes into sleep mode, all work/programs are saved. Dumping the tower/monitor was the best thing I did, 8 years ago. But I still use a decent surge protector.
  8. Perhaps it could be helpful to consider our origins, electricity had only been around for a century, but for tens of thousands years we have been used to yellow flame as a light source in the evening, from fires, torchiers and candles etc. So we are accustomed to warm white light (2300k) in the evening and blue white sun light (5000k) during the day. Therefore if we are subjected to blue white light (like what comes from smart phones and TVs) at night, we still think it's daytime, and thus not sleeping time. If you have a warm white (2300k) evening setting on your phone/TV use it. If you have 5000k (cool white) lights in the house change them to 2300k (warm white) as this is the most appropriate light for the evenings. Turn the phone over (face down) in the early evening and don't use it till the morning. Turn the telle off early in the evening and read a book, take it to bed if need be and read for a few more minutes, maybe you'll soon nod off. Hope that helps.
  9. Consistently Emerates/Qatar/SIA and maybe even Cathay, are very good. Surprisingly Thai (depending on route) are also good, and you have the bonus of all their lounges at Swampy. British, Lufthansa, KLM, US Finnair, Swiss and Delta, fair to middlin. As a previous poster indicated Oman air used to be good but not so now. And at the bottom (well at the bottom) would be Turkish, Saudi and Egyptair.
  10. Polar bear is pretty well on the mark. I'd suggest adjusting bedtime 5 minutes earlier every day. Avoid coffee for 10 hours before bedtime and try to avoid alcohol in the evening. It's could be helpful to consider our origins, electricity had only been around for a century, but for tens of thousands years we have been used to yellow flame as a light source in the evening, from fires, torchiers and candles etc. So we are accustomed to warm white light (2300k) in the evening and blue white sun light (5000k) during the day. 11. Just for interest.! The first 'traffic signals' in Melbourne Australia were two double sides clock faces on a post (obviously facing 4 directions) in place of the numbers, around noon was yellow painted, 12.30 to about 6 was red with the opposing face (cross street) being green. Some adjustment for busier streets was possible by lengthening the green and shortening the red, the opposite being for the quieter street. At night the faces were floodlit. Their failing was the inability to make timing adjustments for peak periods. And thus in the 1960s they went by way to the dump. Were they used in Thailand now red would of course mean go faster, you can make it.!
  12. This would be correct. Last week when the family enquired they had to accept sinovac + AZ. Yesterday when they enquired (and booked) they were offered AZ + Pfizer. Thus we would assume it's the end of sinovac.
  13. Plus they have absolutely ZERO phone cs. No live chat. No response to emails. Sad story but true it seems.! I would suggest 'question everything' if you can contact anyone to pose the questions to. In 2019, just after pandemic struck we had AirAsia X flights booked, $900, thankfully booked and paid for from Australia. AirAsia offered credit or refund, we opted for refund, nothing for 10 months, even after pressing them at least a dozen times, they kept trying to push us onto a credit, in the end I decided eventually they would go belly up (which they have) and handed it over to the local consumer protection agency, refunded 3 weeks later. All creditors for AirAsia X are now being offered 5c/$1. So glad we got consumer protection involved. As for Thai AirAsia, whilst they are still flying I'd be wanting either flights or refunds, who knows if they will go belly up too, their parent company owes $5 billion. No means of contact is worrisome.! Does suggest they are in deep schtook..!
  14. I am told (not been myself) the beach behind the naval school 'KLET KAEO BEACH' south of Pattaya is quiet clean and beautiful. May be worth a songkew ride down there.
  15. 'Smart' TV, bit of an oxymoron considering how dumb some are, or at least the numbing effect they have. After all isn't TV, the drug of a nation, breeding ignorance and feeding misinformation.? Sorry, couldn't resist commenting.!
  16. After the Pfizer shot: Our local pharmacist had took 3 days off, he had 'man flu'.! A friend in France (no underlying health issues) was hospitalised for 14 days with multiple symptoms, they could find no cause, all cleared up in the end. And my partner had a nasty rash for a few weeks. It seems it's not always 'plain sailing' with Pfizer.!
  17. One way to check is right click over the link, choose the copy link address option and paste it into notepad or some similar offline program. Then you can examine the address without going to it. Generally I would expect a genuine thai post page to have 'thaipost' somewhere in the link address, if not, better to take the cautious approach and suspect it is a scam.! As 10k others may have found that out recently.!
  18. Would it be possible to 'buy' 1 Moderna/Pfiser shot from one of the major private hospitals.? By discounting the Sinovac, but showing one AZ & one mRNA, would you then be considered fully vaccinated.? On a slightly less related subject, Australia has recently recognised Sinovac and Sinopharm, not for any efficacy reasons, but for purely commercial reasons. A very large part of the income of universities is derived from foreign students, the majority of whom come from China.!
  19. Couldn't agree more.! Any vaccine is better than none, and if you were unlucky enough to have had the only choice, one of the Chinese vaccines, get an mRNA booster. Only last week we hear from the UK that in time the effectiveness of Pfiser reduces by 20% but AZ only reduces by 7%. In Australia it is recommended those vaccinated with AZ should get a Moderna (mRNA) as a booster. Many Thai nationals only get the option of Sinovac/AZ, perhaps later, when there's enough they may get an mRNA booster, Pfiser or Moderna. And get healthy.! The more healthy you are the better your chances of a long life. If you haven't already, it's time to get off the durries and give up the turps.! Better to die with your boots on at 100 than wither away from some lifestyle disease at 70.
  20. I think AZ has been sporadically available from Chiang mai RAM hospital, none available now. Only on one offer for Thai nationals is Sinovac + AZ. We decided a few days ago, as Thailand seems intent on opening the flood gates on Nov 1 better to get Sinovac + AZ now and push for Moderna booster later. One would hope the Sinovac + AZ combination will offer enough protection in the mean time.!
  21. Probably yes..! Australian government, yesterday, has just recommended booster shots for the vulnerable as soon as possible and the rest of the population later. Those with 2 mRNA vaccine shots (Pfiser/Moderna) to receive a third, those with 2 Astra Zeneca vaccine shots to recieve an mRNA vaccine as the third booster.!
  22. From WHO.! https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/media-resources/science-in-5/episode-49-can-i-get-infected-after-vaccination?gclid=CjwKCAjw7--KBhAMEiwAxfpkWLUpEIkQS7Olbxs-39-4mUHb8-nFQIxh7_XE2OdRQWvTALhq9NtcJBoC1kIQAvD_BwE
  23. Most probably - yes..! Afterall aren't we supposed to rely on experts for definite answers to questions like this.? Is it not a question of how contagious the virus is.? Experts use the rating system 'R0', with the original covid virus being (if memory serves) about 1.5, that is every infected person passes it on to 1.5 other people, I've read somewhere that the delta variants rating is 5, so 1 person passes it on to 5 others. It seems the only purpose in life the virus has is to replicate itself, and it obviously is evolving to do just that, as much as possible. Being vaccinated does not preclude you from getting infected. You can still get infected, the vaccine prepares you for that eventuality and fights off the infection much quicker. Thus if infected you can still spread the virus, albeit for a shorter period of time. And this may well be how we get out of this pandemic. With vaccinated people having less time to spread the virus, there will obviously be less infections. Covid 19 is here to stay, it's just a matter of controlling it, just like how we have done with the Spanish flu (H1N1a), which is still out there, but is included in the flu shot many of us get annually. Hopefully, in time, covid 19 will be included in the flu shot to.
  24. Probably more of a shock than a prolonged problem, if the appropriate remedy is taken. Happened to us in a Chiang mai hotel once. Just spray the mattress/bedding with flyspray/mortien/aerogard etc. And your bedclothes if you wear them. Dealing with bedbugs is not so traumatic as scabies as they don't live on you, they prefer the seams and corners in the mattress material, so that's the area that needs targeting.! Usually that's all that is required to get rid of them, but if infections persist, then up the treatment to things like boiling bedding/clothes. You can see them if you look through a magnifying glass.
  25. Australian government has just recognised sinovac and the Indian covishield vaccines. I suspect it's in time for enrolments for the new school year, because so many Overseas university students come from China and India.! Thus based on economics, not vaccinate rates or effectiveness.
