  1. regarding the vax yeah I got the certification today actually I managed to put everything together, and uploaded most files I needed to the application, but now I'm waiting for a reply from the rest-and-go hotel. Without a booking confirmation I can't apply for the visa (and without the visa I can't apply for the thai pass) Furthermore, I found out that the rest-and-go hotels require various documents just to make a reservation. I had to send them copies of my passport, proof of vaccination, and proof of insurance for the duration of my stay. And of course, now they are the ones slowing down the whole process. It's ridiculous that so many checks need to be done. So wasteful and inefficient. What's the point of checking those documents twice?
  2. I'll try to use scans of the pages of my passport, starting from my last visa for Thailand and with the following pages to show that was my last trip. Maybe I'll also upload a note like the one you described but the passport pages should be good (that's what they request)
  3. Hey man, so yes, I went to the consulate. The guy I talked to was basically saying that since they do not actually go online and apply for visa themselves they don't know a lot about it. Nevertheless, I asked him a few questions and he said that: - for traveling accommodation it's enough to have a confirmation of the rest and go for the first night (but like somebody said it might be a good idea to add a note that states we will travel to various destinations -Regarding residency, they said a photocopy of my driver's license should suffice the guy also mentioned that for the thai pass I will need a provincial vaccination certificate (easy to obtain) the whole thing is still a bit of a nightmare but I think I have everything I need to apply for the visa. I will do that today and post about what happens (or more information about each step) I also postponed my flight so I have more time to get everything ready. Wish me luck
  4. By the way, compared to this list point 8 seems to have changed 8. Applicant is required to upload his/her passport pages which contain all travel records for the past 12 months (1 year) since the last international trip. also 9 has changed to proof of residency - not sure what to use here ... passport again? Driver's license? I'll ask them at the consulate tomorrow
  5. Regarding the flight, usually to issue a visa they want to see a return flight. But who knows, with Thailand everything is possible.
  6. 1. Passport data page 2. Best effort at a passport photo from my mobile 3. Downloaded the declaration; signed it; photographed it; uploaded it 4. Flight conformation email screenshotted and turned into a jpg format 5. As #4 but the AQ hotel confirmation from Test and Go hotel 6. Screen shot of my online banking showing my full name and current account balance. 7. Passport data page 8. I wrote in Windows Notepad "I do not have an invitation. I am a tourist travelling alone." Then screen shotted this and turned it into a jpg file using Windows Paint. 9. As #8 but explaining I have not travelled outside of my Country during the previous 14 months. 10. Passport data page. 11. Just a simple photo of me holding my passport. All this sounds promising. I guess I'll try to do all this then (but I"m also going to go to the consulate to ask them what is going on)
  7. Yeah, I'm sure I selected a single entry tourist visa. Up to step 2 it looks as easy as that page mentioned, but once you get to step 4 all the weird stuff appears, as I posted above. Another poster on this forum also confirmed having the same issues (and giving up as a result) It's all super weird, Kafkaesque maybe
  8. Yeah, this requirement is insanity... It basically makes the whole thing impossible to complete. Thai stupidity is legendary, but they really set new records of complete and total idiocy here ON Monday morning I'll go bust their balls in person and see what hey say about this
  9. well, yes, it looks really easy on that page you sent me, but when I fill in the e-visa application I get asked for all those documents i indicated.... and no, I'm not applying for the wrong visa. I clearly indicated I just want a tourist visa The whole thing is, in reality and regardless of the fairy tales on that page, unbelievably harder right now. I can think of two possible eplanations 1- |Despite claims to the contrary they really don't want any visitors to go to Thailand right now 2- They hired a bunch of idiots to set up the evisa application, maybe after a few bribes, and those idiots just made it harder to make it look like they actually deserve all that money.
  10. hey man, thanks for the tip. I will look it up, but do you happen to know what kind of documents I should bring from Canada? Like, maybe a letter from my employer? Anyways, yeah, just thought you might know. I'll look it up anyways.
  11. So, first of all... I'm a Canadian citizen and I"m currently in Vancouver, so I will apply for the tourist visa from here. Disclaimer/rant: I only plan to go back to reunite with my girlfriend/fiancee and live there with her since I work online. I would rather shoot myself than go to Thailand for actual tourism and based on the madness the thai government is currently in the grip of I strongly recommend that anybody without specific reasons to go to Thailand (Work/family/girlfriends/whatever) choose another destination for a vacation. At the moment, I need to get a 60 day visa, something that pre-covid was extremely simple (walked into the consulate, filled in a form, paid, gave them my passport, done) but has now become extremely complex. I mean, it's not enough that to get there I will also need a thai pass (the new COE) and all the BS that goes with that... the actual visa process has become a lot more complicated and requires many more documents than it did in the past. Four sections and an endless list of documents, some of which don't actually make any sense. Thailand has literally become a synonym for "insanity". They keep saying they need tourists to go back and yet they are doing their best to discourage anybody with a brain from going there. If I wasn't in love with my GF and planning to marry her I'd be seriously tempted to dump her and never go back to this lunatics-run country ever again. Rant over So I started filling the online application and I have various issues. I will go to the consulate first thing Monday morning to see what they say, but in the meantime I was wondering if any of you could help me figure some things out The questions: On Page 3) - they request proof of accommodation... what does that even mean? Since when do tourists book an entire 60 days stay before they live? Or is it just for the first day? But I will have to do a test-and-go... is it enough to indicate the hotel where we will spend the first night? (I could say I stay with a friend but then I would have to get his full address and a letter of invitation, more madness) Page 4 (Supporting Documents)- Section 7 Confirmation of legal residence in a country in which you are applying for the visa. (In case that you are not a national of the country in which you are applying for the visa.) So, this is a mandatory field and if it's empty you can't progress with the application.... but <deleted>.... I'm a Canadian citizen and I'm applying from Canada, as already clearly indicated in other sections of this massive application (getting divorced in Canada, years ago, took a fraction of the time filling in this <deleted> joke of an application is taking).. <deleted> am I supposed to put in here? An extra copy of my passport? What is this? Page 4 (Supporting Documents)- Section 8 Applicant is required to upload his/her passport pages which contain all travel records for the past 12 months (1 year) since the last international trip. - I think I figured this one out (I didn't go anywhere since my last trip to Thailand before Covid). I guess I should just show copies of my latest trips/visas and the following pages. I guess it's to show I haven't been to any high risk country. If you understand it differently let me know. Page 4 (Supporting Documents)- Section 9 Applicant must apply for e-Visa via specific Embassy/Consulate conforming with his/her consular jurisdiction and residency. Applicant is required to upload document that can verify his/her current residency. I'm supposed to prove I'm a resident of Vancouver now? How? A scan of my driver's license? (I would also ask "why?" but it would be pointless when it comes to Thailand) Page 4 (Supporting Documents)- Section 9 Please upload your picture holding the photo and information page of the passport. So, I mean, seriously? They want us to take a picture of ourselves holding our passport? Am I misreading it? Conclusion Well, guys, any help will be appreciated, but I will go and bust their balls in person on Monday. Alternatively, do you think it would be possible for me to just get a 30 days stamp on arrival (obviously I'd still need a Thailand pass...) and then maybe get married asap and apply for a non-immigrant visa while there? Is that doable? once again, any input will be appreciated...
  12. No man, you don't get it. Migrant workers from Burma and probably Laos and Cambodia have been crossing the border with Thailand the whole time the country was, LOL, in "lockdown". They are the reason Covid is everywhere in Thailand right now (starting with Cambodian prostitutes joining hi-so parties in Bangkok, if I remember correctly) Wake up dude! All these rules and requirements do absolutely nothing in terms of protecting the public. They're just extra taxes the thai government is imposing on the only people who can afford them, people coming from rich countries. Well, that, and the usual rhetoric: "locals are fine but those dirty foreigners will kill us all".... except their locals are not fine because more and more cases are cropping up and they're still behind with vaccinations (not to mention some were vaccinated with Sinovac... The whole situation is sad, and it's also sad that some people who should know better are buying the government propaganda. Honestly, I'm just trying to go back to marry my girlfriend, otherwise I would never, ever even consider going back to Thailand. Their whole management of this crisis is nothing but a fraudulent, xenophobic joke.
  13. Exactly. I am planning to go but just because I want to reunite with my girlfriend and work online from Thailand. But tourism? Forget it. Still plenty of ridiculous requirements, and nothing fun going on. Anybody considering going there for tourism right now needs to go see a shrink. There are lots of places with less requirements and more things to do. The test, by the way, is completely useless. If you get sick on the plane it won't show in tests for much longer, and since anybody traveling was already tested two days earlier, yeah, basically useless and another scam to make people spend money on tests and the AQ/SHA accommodation (I could stay with friends or my girlfriend, for example, but I'll have to waste money on this <deleted>)
  14. If Canada doesn't end up on this list, despite having higher vaccination rates than the US, I'll be seriously tempted never to set foot in this country governed by clueless, corrupt muppets ever again.
  15. so, dude, let us put it this way.... The vaccine is meant to protect people who take it, and the people they come in contact with (lower chance of catching it and transmitting it) and it does, but it's not a one hundred percent guarantee. So, even being vaccinated it's possible to get sick and that means that the more potential carriers (especially unvaccinated people) we come in contact with, the higher the chances we might get sick regardless of our shots (or spread it to people we know) Idiots (yes, you read it right, total IDIOTS) who don't want to get vaccinated are selfish, dumb a-holes who will make life harder for everybody else by allowing the virus to thrive and spread easily. They want to be free to be selfish idiots? Well then, I want to be free to choose not to be close to any of those morons. I work for a school and we all voted to have vaccines mandatory for all workers and students. I also strongly support any vaccine passport. I don't want to get on an airplane or sit in a restaurant or work daily with some dimwit who gets his news from conspiracy theorists. Vaccines are produced by the same science that produced penicillin, antibiotics and so on. You don't want vaccines? Okay, then stop using all the other medicines, driving cars, playing video games on computers. Go live on a forest, maybe join a cult. and survive on what you can procure and make yourself (and have fun). People who want to be part of a society or group have to sometimes do what's best for everybody, not just indulge their deluded fantasies. If they prefer not to be , well then, that is their choice and they can exercise it anytime by going to live in some forest on their own.
  16. You're right, but at the moment, considering their draconian (and ever-changing) requirements it is utterly impossible. Now it requires planning for sure, and yet they keep making sudden changes and making it impossible to actually plan anything. Not to mention the constant lack of clarity about what exactly will be required from November first It's all moot anyways... why would anybody go there now for tourism? Everything's closed, no freedom, expensive testing needed etc. Right now only people with family or interests really want to go there. Tourists have many better options.
  17. For what it's worth, at the local consulate they told me, just this morning, that as of October first the ASQ will be reduced to one week for sure (only for fully vaccinated people). The guy I talked to just told me to make sure I don't book anything before October first and yeah, the ASQ will be 1 week. Still, I agree this announcement lacks many details... So will Hua HIn and other places reopening in November be along the Sandbox model? Will SHA hotels still be mandatory? How long will it be before visitors are allowed to travel freely? What happens if you do test positive exactly> Lack of clarity is still a major issue Furthermore Do they not realize that right now only total idiots are even considering going to Thailand for tourism? (No offense guys, but with all the bars closed and the cops empowered to arrest people drinking outside, curfews etc going there now for tourism just doesn't make any sense) The only people who want to go want to reunite with family or girlfriends (or possibly other reasons, like work related), their lack of clarity and ridiculous rules (ASQ, SHA hotels, insurance, etc) are mostly just scaring them off..... Thailand is more surreal than ever. If I didn't have a girlfriend there I wouldn't even consider visiting in the near future. Also, wi
  18. You are missing the point man... you seem to think all their harebrained schemes actually serve some kind of purpose. Problem is, they don't. They're a face saving measure at best (hey we did something to protect the country) and a way to charge foreigners with extra taxes and/or force them to stay in hotels run by their buddies at worst. Wake up dude... Thailand is right now one of the countries most affected by Covid in the world. So what did all their quarantines accomplish thus far? NOTHING AT ALL, that's what... The virus was brought in through poorly regulated borders with other Asian countries, and anyways Thais are traveling freely within the country, so the virus is spreading already. I have friends in Bangkok who go to Hua Hin all the time, no problem. If thais or local expats, who are likely to be infected (again, country with some of the highest numbers right now), can travel freely, why would vaccinated foreigners, less likely to be spreaders have to be restricted at all? You bought the government propaganda, my friend. The government has done nothing useful at all. Thailand is the laughing stock of the world right now. Their stupidity and greed have reached new pinnacles and it's sad to see that even some foreigners believe their BS.
  19. Exactly, the quarantines and all the rest are just another tax on the visitors wealthy enough to afford it. They have zero impact on the disease (which is already everywhere) The thai government is nothing but a mass of corrupt money-grabbers. I will have to go back to Thailand to see my girlfriend at some point but if it wasn't for that I would never, ever set foot in this utter disgrace of a country and if you don't have personal reasons for going there I advice anybody to just pick different destination.
  20. I couldn't agree more. Their so called preventive measure were a total bust. Delaying reopening won't help anybody. Still, who's going to go there as a tourist now? Probably nobody... but at least some folks will have an easier time reuniting with their families.
  21. Like somebody else said... zero Covid was a dream before and it certainly is now, with the virus already everywhere in Thailand. Covid won't go away and we cant stay in lockdown forever, might as well start slowly reopen while vaccinations are ramped up. Having said that, I wouldn't go as a tourist, not with curfews in place and the likes, but I want to see my girlfriend and I can stay for a few months (since I work online) so I'll give it a shot.
  22. I think there was a misunderstanding man.... Partly my fault because my original post wasn't very clear (or maybe I had misunderstood something else as well). My only point was that for an outbreak to occur it means more infected people must have come in (locals could have had it of course but if the place was in lockdown the numbers shouldn't have started growing), but I was mainly thinking of Thais going to Phuket hoping to get work thanks to the sandbox.
  23. Dear fellow posters.... some of you seem to have ignored the real issue. I mean, we could pile sarcasm on his flip-flopping all day, and then argue about the benefits of a lockdown.... But here's the real issue.... This 'closure' is a joke. Draconian controls and requirements for people flying in, ostensibly to protect the country, except tons of migrant workers just waltz across the borders daily and spread the disease anyways. That's why they had a recent spike despite all the regulations and quarantines about entering the country. As it stands, Thailand is becoming a joke. They close the country to tourists for no reasons and in the meantime the disease spreads regardless. Opening the country could have helped the economy, while enforcing real controls at all the borders would have actually protected the country. They did neither, and, as it is, the only result is ripping off the few idiots who went there anyways (assuming for tourism, obviously traveling there for other reasons like reuniting with family is another story) What a joke of a country. No <deleted> way I'll go back until they eliminate their idiotic, and useless, quarantines. It's nothing but <deleted>.
  24. A thai with a brain... and a statement that makes sense.... Guys, let's face reality, Covid is everywhere in Thailand... Quarantines and lockdowns are just a joke atm. A quarantine for travelers? seriously? they should be happy anybody is crazy enough to go to a place where Covid is running rampant. Those measures were poorly thought out and useless considering the porous Asian borders and the hi-sos love of parties, and had no effect at all, but of course the idiots in the government won't listen to the only person making sense. If a concept is smart it must be well above their heads.
