Many replies mention the proximity and cheap travel to Bangkok from xyz, so the answer is simple. Get yourself a small pad in Nana and you can always go for quick breaks to the islands if cash flow allow. Job done!

Shampoo itself is a rip-off. It's all the same shit shoved in a bottle, shampoo, shower gel, bath gel, call it what you will. Buy yourself a cheap bar of soap and you'll be fine!

Pretty early on in my time in Thailand I decided, live in a basic apartment, dont let them think you've got any spare cash! Makes things much less complicated in the long-run. Those searching for the goldmine know i dont have one!
