  1. Please tell me where I can find this information..............if it is the police order (attached to the article on the ThaiVisa.com homepage): a dependent visa is still allowed and a map is only required for the applicants of an extention of a non-immigrant B (icm WP).

As stated in post one - this is a new directive/change effective September 1, 2007 and has not yet been officially published but is now policy.

As far as I can read (the pdf file) item 7.21 allows a person the retire here in Thailand and item 7.19 says that his/her married partner is still entitled to get a dependent visa.

The police order is from 1-9-2006 and will be effecitve from 1-10-2007.

    Something wrong here?

  2. No More Dependent Extension Of Stay If The Host Foreigner Has A Retirement Extension Of Stay Permit

    and

    Map required

If a foreigner has been granted a extension of stay based on retirement, until now as per 7.19 of the Royal Police Office Order 606/2006 his or her foreign dependent ( Wife or husband, child, father, mother) could get a extension of stay by being a dependent. As of Sept 1st, no more dependent extension of stay permits will be issued if the foreigner has a extension of stay based on retirement. This includes any “grandfather” cases where the dependent applicant had the extension of stay before Sept 1st 2007.

Example. A foreigner husband is 53 years old and has a extension of stay based on retirement. His wife is Japanese and they live together in Thailand. She is 43 years old and now cannot get a extension of stay as a dependent. Even if she was 51 years old, she does not qualify. She must meet her own set of criteria and not piggyback off her husbands retirement extension of stay permit. If she is over 50 years old, she can get a extension of stay based on retirement but must have her own 800K sent from outside the country to her bank account or qualify by having a pension of 65K per month.

Example: A foreigner has two children that are not Thai nationals. They are 16 years old and 12 years old. They can no longer be a dependent to obtain a extension of stay permit by having a father who is over 50 years old. They possibly can get a extension of stay permit or visa on a different criteria. Perhaps they will qualify as a educational extension of stay permit.

This National Police Order will be dated Sept 1st 2007 and will be published in the Gazette in the next 10 days. However this order is effective immediately.

This could be a U-turn next week but the odds are very high, this will continued to be the new law and interpretation.

If you are applying for the extension of stay based on retirement. You now need to provide a map from Immigration to your house.

  3. Why should someone tell others that he is living in Pattaya if that's not the case?

Living in or near Soi Crockodile Farm, means that your are living in Naklua.

Living South of Thepprasite Road is Jomtien, North of Thepprasit is Pattaya.

Living East of Sukhumvit between North Pattaya Road and Thepprasit Road is Banglamung.

Living between the Sea and Sukhumvit and North Pattaya Road and Thepprasit road means that you're living in Pattaya.

I already gave the reason in my OP.

If you live in a suburb of San Francisco and you were traveling in Japan, you wouldn't say Daly City, you would say San Francisco. This is standard. Everyone in Japan knows San Francisco.

My theory is that lot of people say Jomtien or Naklua to avoid saying Pattaya which many people outside Thailand do know, but they don't know Jomtien and Naklua. So they are ashamed and embarrassed ...

    Get my point now?

Got your point, but people only say that they are from Amsterdam while living in Diemen, because they are too lazy to explain where they really live.

You could say: "I live in Dale City, near San Fransisco!!"

It's about the same as some websites, where you can choose a city of residence in Thailand and the only choise you have is Chiang Mai or Bangkok. Living in Bangkok makes you choose for Bangkok of course, but it is just the lazyness of the webmaster to create more choices.....nice and easy.

    Get my point.

  4. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirichai from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Yensabai Condotel in South Pattaya in the early hours of Monday Morning after security guards at the complex reported the discovery of an English Resident who had been repeatedly stabbed inside his room, which had also been ransacked. Rescue Workers arrived and attended to the seriously injured victim, Mr. Christopher Stapylton Cockburn aged 79 from Iver Heath in Buckinghamshire, England. The security guards explained to Police that Mr. Cockburn had gone to his room earlier in the night with two young Thai men who were later seen leaving the complex in a hurry, which alerted the Guards to a potential problem. Inside the room, the victim was found with his hands and legs tied together with a sheet from the bed and blood stains around the room suggested he put up a fight before he was eventually restrained by the assailants. The room safe had been opened and the contents taken. Police received descriptions of the two men who accompanied the victim and begun a hunt. In a stroke of luck, an incident occurred at the Big C Supercenter in South Pattaya on Monday Afternoon where a Thai Man attempted to use a Credit Card belonging to a foreigner to make a purchase totaling 23,000 Baht. The man was detained and the Police were called. He was found to be in possession of a number of credit cards, two wrist watches, a gold necklace and a mobile phone. The name on the credit cards matched the name of the victim and back at the Stationhouse Khun Pisitchai aged 19 explained he met the victim in Soi Sunee Plaza in South Pattaya and, along with a 16 year old boy; they accompanied the victim to his room. Khun Pisitchai confessed to the serious assault and robbery and was charged accordingly. We understand Mr. Cockburn was taken to Banglamung Hospital where he remains in a serious condition after sustaining multiple stab wounds to his upper body and a head injury. The British Embassy in Bangkok is aware of the case and is attending to the victim.

  6. do i need any documents to return or cancel my workpermit???

how long does it take normally?

    thanks.

Just leave the country and the exit stamp from Immigration (which will end your visa) will automatically end your WP.

As soon as you re-enter Thailand on a new non-imm B visum you'll go through the process again.

Regarding the cancellation of the WP, your former employer will take care of that, because he is expected to pay taxes. Paying taxes is the responsibility of the carrier of the WP, but the employer has to pay actually.

To be honest: it's the Immigration Department that enforces the 7 day rule and everybody knows that is merely impossible to change teaching jobs (+ teachers' license + work permit applications) within this period.

  7. for what its worth ...

yes, gh managers were to report for some time. but where i stay is mainly a serviced apt and even during high season people are satying a min of a few weeks.

its not the managers obligation to notify immigration about any persons 90 day stay. its our own responsibility. i imagine though that thai immigration will now make it the mgrs responsibility. the new sheet asks for arrival/departure/type of visa/date of stamp expire and tourist card#.

anyway - yes, its all well known but the old man was told years ago up on soi 7-8 whatever to not bother. and he did not... for years and obviously for years - it did not matter. now they get a new computer and he gets a fine.

i guess its the cheap shot against this poor guy. i mean the owner aint gonna pay this. how easy could it have been to say - get the paperwork to us by 6pm?

meanwhile... im nearly run over daily, one way streets are deadly and quality international touts working illegally on beach road and farang on 2nd road and soi diana. and on and on.

i came back from india with a new attitude, but im simply going to have to lok at the phils mid november and if that doesnt work out cambodia. given the rise in the baht and the latest business law that does not directly impact me - its pretty clear that we are a despised lot. just send money - dont bother coming.

    yup ... amazing thailand

Every foreigner staying in Thailand has to notify Immigration every 90 days and every hotel, guest house, rental business or what ever renting out property or any other living space has to notify Immigration within 24 hours after arrival of the foreigner.

The latest crack down on accomodation managements is not against foreigners, but against the illegal stay of people AND the tax that should be paid by those managements!!!

    Don't see a problem here!!!

Why is there again a comparison with other countries e.g. USA and UK, this is Thailand!!!

  8. ......THERE IS A MORAL TO THIS STORY ..

    Yes there is.

At all times remember you are a 'resented alien' in a third world country where there is no acceptable rule of law and corruption is king.

If you keep this in mind at all times, then any untoward incidents that you become involved in will never fall short of your 'western expectations', because in LOS you should only expect the worst. :o

100 % agree mobi....resented alien is spot on.My mate was in his 4 day old pickup sat at traffic lights when a pissed up THAI on an old unroad worthy motorbike and sidecar gave his motor a full lenght scratch he did not feel much like smiling and being friendly as the thai fella thought it was funny and the police showed little interest .Thai -no money farang new car - big money end result obvious...ref the expats club they are really struggling to find anything new and/important to discuss should be CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

What I miss in the story is: Insurance!!!! Didn't you have an insurance Rambler?

One of my Thai friends drove my mb once and hit an old guy who was suddenly entering the main road from a dirt track. It wasn't my friends fault, but he was forced to pay for all damages to the guy's bike and all medical expenses. So, I forwarded the matter to my insurance and they took care: they contacted the victim and told him to drive more carefully in the future and that was it.

  9. Live there since 1 year.

It's close enough to the city and far enough from the city at the same time.

I'm a Pattaya - Chonburi City commuter and only go to the city in the weekends. Friday night week-shopping on my way home and leave the car until Monday.

Go to the city on my bike; saves time and is almost as safe as by car.

More and more older villages (e.g. the Aekmongkol chain) are being occupied by larger groups of Thais (friends, families and collegues) which means that there is always someone "alert".

  10. isnt this just a debit card??? i have with my scb.

yep, the OP is a bit mixed up between an ATM with VISA logo and a VISA credit card. The first one's nothing more than 'just' a debet card.

I just tried to buy a book online at www.dco.co.th with my Kasikorn ATM/debet with VISA logo and guess what: "The CC number is not correct!"

  12. First of all: If you ask the question like the above, you should ask yourself whether you have a BF or not.

Second: You'll be amazed by the Thai BF/GF who have wives/husbands, children, BF's and or GF's, while they stay with a farang. Most of them are NOT jealous, they just don't want to share their economic and financial happiness!!

Swinging seems to be pretty common in the gay scene (don't ask me why), but the Thai gay scene is not the gay scene we know.

  13. BUT what about all the people who "escaped" their home country because they are fed up with the political and personal economic situation.

What to think of the people who have a modest pension in their homecountry, covering just a small condo and the utlilities there. For the same amount, they have a huge garden home in Thailand and live like God in france.

Yes, I can imagine that those people are more attracted to fellows from their home country and are not really bothered in the society where they live in. OK, it's not the way, but understandable.

  14. Its nickname crime converters is not for nothing..

I cannot imagine there are stringent controls in operation here in thailand...

oo.. I have a camera just like that one back in my hotel room...

    :o

I'm in a habit of throwing or giving things away after I don't use them for a year.

I brought a Palm Vx from my homecountry to Thailand 4 years ago and after several attempts in getting the bloody thing to work I decided to bring it to CC.

They offered me THB 600 (including leather cover, cradle, CD), so THB 3800 means.........533.3% and THB 2100 means 250%..........for me that's a scam!!!!

  15. Hi all, I recently spent a few weeks in Pattaya for the first time in a few years and noticed it has got quite a bit bigger...much bigger in fact. Lots of luxury condos going up left, right and centre, especially in the Soi Borkhao area. I was wondering whether someone could tell me the current population and how much it is going up a year.

    Thanks.

A very good question. I tried to google for an answer, but after typing "population pattaya" and entered, I found numbers from 55.000 up to 72.946 inhabitants and room for 600,000 tourists (boarding).

Nobody really seems to know how much, but for sure the number iincreased and not just a few percent.

  16. Checkpoint are there to.............yes, check!!

On high ways they're there to check the paperwork, seat belts and other misdeminors. If you can show them that everything is okay, they'll let you go........................yeah right: there is always something wrong: driving too fast or too slow, driving in the wrong lane, some minor technical defect.....because they need some cash.

Talking about the 'rates': Thai pay 50 baht max and farangs are expected to pay a 100 Baht. Sure, if everyone is paying 200 Baht, the ongoing rate will be 200 Baht for a farang in a few months.

The checkpoints in Pattaya are mainly focussed on motorbikes with young people on them: paperwork, helmets, weapons and drugs are the main objectives.

If they try to stop you............ignore them, unless they jump in front of your vehicle!!

  17. The umbrellas look tacky,if they had kept the advertising to a small area of the brolly it would have been better, sitting under one of them being costantly reminded of a hospital is not nice for a holiday feeling, but this Pattaya after all....

I don't like Coca Cola, because of the taste and the gaz.......but sitting under a Coca Cola umbrella doesn't remind me of the filthy sweet taste of the product: it keeps the sun away and that's where an umbrella is for isn't it?

If I have to bother all the commercial expressions that I don't like, ...............................................!!

  18. Hello Good Heart,

this one is off topic, but I was wondering.............

being a member of this forum since 31-12-2004, that makes 934 days until now.

19,200 posts makes an average of 20.557 per day.

Is that what makes you a super-moderator?

    I'll never get that far!!

Anyway, take care and keep up the good work. :o

  19. I'm contemplating buying a new laptop my next vacation, at Tukcom.

Of course, I want to get one with Microsoft Vista on it.

Does anyone have a laptop with Vista on it?

What has been your experience with it? (i,e,. Do you reccomend it?)

Also, I'm wondering if Tukcom is the kind of place where you can haggle for a discount.

I bought my Compaq at Tuk.Com last year at one of the many shops offering all possible equipment and brands.

MS XP SP2 was preinstalled (copied version).

Had a (software) problem once and went back. They solved the problem.

Last month I went back to the shop, because I needed an accessory: shop gone!!! Guarantee gone?

As far as I know, the guarantee is a worldwide thing, so if you buy a Compaq in Thailand, there should be no problem in claiming guarantee in your home country. I suppose.

In any case: TukCom is okay as long as you buy your laptop at a brand store: Toshiba, Compaq, Sony, etc.

  20. For some days now, I'm browsing through this forum and if I read the topics in the lists they look pretty informative. Once in a the thread there is most of the times a question or remark, waiting for a serious answer or a serious reply.

No, some posters are only able to browse through this forum, hunting for posts in order to express their deepest bs as an answer or reply.

I just ask myself: Is there really nothing better to do for all those people who are just busy being critical, synical and what ever more.

I suggest that the (super) moderators of this forum, just kick a poster out for a few days as soon as he/she is posting off thread.

  21. Weho has a point though. A warranty is a warranty and hold these flashy western-style showroom sales enterprises feet to the fire on them. If they want to sell western-style appliances in a western-style showroom, they can start to provide western-style after sales support;

and what about the western style prices............ that may be the consequence!!!!!
