  1. Assuming she is happy with a Nano (the slim one) they are 4000baht for 4gb and 8000 for 8gb.

There is an Ipod style knockoff for under 1000baht - 2gb that is easily to pick up at Tuk Com (IT City)

Ipod uses a propriety software (Itunes) so the user needs to be a bit computer savvy to get the most of it -mp3s, videos and games.

  2. Catching the bus from Pattaya to Sriracha (Robinsons) would cost 40 baht one way. A reasonable price for a Taxi is 600 baht one way and 1000baht return. Its about 35-45 mins depending on the traffic.

There would not be much difference for a Thai because its unlikely they would use this type of service (bus, friends or own car) but they would pay the same price.

  3. The tax on goods received from overseas varies from one customs officer to the next. I used to order goods from Amazon.com but the tax drove me crazy because it was very inconsistent. Now I just get it sent to Oz and wait for a mate to bring it over.

  4. Because cost of living in the 'West' is shit compared to Thailand, people from the West would make money and go to Thailand to build their own homes, start business or w/e because it's cheaper exchange rate, where else if they do it back home, they have to pay a lot of land tax, tax, rent or w/e. For example: You can build a house in Thailand for around $80,000 AUD or less in Thailand, where $80,000 would just give you a deposit on a 3 bedroom average house that is worth $350,000.

True but you kinda get what you pay for.

  5. I've been here 5 years and used to it now but I must admit it was frustrating at first.

Nowadays I think most Thais understand if you told them 7am as 7 in the morning but for night time and afternoon its still preferable to used bai (afternoon), toom (between 6pm-12) and tii(12-6am).

  6. I bet the shop was a Chinese herbal medicine shop and not a pharmacy ala Boots, Watsons. These shops might have a farang customer once in a solar eclipse. The people who own these shops or work in them can be very condescending to customers that aren't regulars. My gut feeling is the the person serving thought the farang thought this was a pratical joke and tried playing along with it.

  7. Was this in Pattaya? I find that Thais in Pattaya are usually quick to demand monetary payment for petty things.

2000Baht? Thats the long time rate.

250Baht? Thats the price of 2 beers.

If this was Sriracha or a smaller town, it would probably be 50 baht for 2 Changers :o

  8. All the cigarettes and alcohol that get confiscated by Thai customs is sold off in a special auction once a month. I haven't been to one yet but a co-worker goes and brings back a lot of goodies. You need to know the right people to go.

Last month we polished off a Johnny Blue Label and smoked some fine Juliet cigars. I am currently "testing" a new carton of Davidoff ciggies - they are very smooth.

The custom guys have an eye for the good stuff and know the market value so don't try to be coy with them, just hand it over so I can enjoy it :-)
