If you want to claim self defence the force used has to be reasonable and in proportion. So if someone slaps you then you can slap him, you can't punch his teeth out and knock him out.

 

Since the girl was merely holding his ear, he could hold her hear, or use reasonable force to remove her hand from his ear. But he can't use the force that he used, which was so strong that it catapulted her to the floor. She could have hit her head on the concrete and suffered a serious injury.

 

The Swede foolishly escalated things. He got what he deserved.

You are talking out of your arse, you don't know if she's holding his ear,hair or if she's struck him. He pushes her away and she falls. Complete self defence.
