Well, they will have to be a little careful because there are some Soi 6 style bars with ST rooms upstairs popping up around the place.  I don't mean massage shops with upstairs rooms, I mean a Soi 6 style bar, but just not in Soi 6.

yup quite a few new gents clubs popping up everywhere recently ????

  2. just got my first licenses, did it all in a day,

went to Jomtien soi 5 immigration in morning with correct paperwork for residence cert, was in and out in 15-20mins - 300baht

went for my medical also in Jomtien, took 10 minutes 150baht

went to the Land Transportation Office,

handed in 1. Residence cert, 2. Medical cert, 3. International Drivers Permit, 4. Passport (she made copies of all the documents for the applications of both car and bike licenses) signed a few papers and got told to come back at 1:30pm to do eye test (12-1 is lunch hour)

1:30pm do eye test and reaction test, takes about 10 minutes,

then go pay for both licenses - 310baht

then just waiting around to get number called, have photo taken, wait another 10 minutes and then the cards printed

2:30pm was on my way home

    Several.

You can ask around or Google.

But at around 3500 it makes for expensive licenses.

    I'm not advocating any personally.

    But once again,  TIT.

But last time it was say 350 medical certificate.

500 for both licenses, car and bike.

    About 25 baht for photocopies.

And a few hours at the DLT.

You are normally required to sit through the video for the first time licence.

    In thai, what else.

    Many don't bother..

2500 to an agent or a few hours of time and a visit to the DLT.

    Personal choice!!!

ahh ok, will most likely do it me sen then cheers mate

    Normally check the bp.

    And sign a certificate.

    300 to 500 baht.

    Hospital is more comprehensive.

X rays, urine and drug tests.

    Depending on your location.

And if its a first time license.

I just used  local on klang for the renewal recently.

    cheers,

is there any decent fixers/companies that people usually recommend for someone getting their first license?

No restrictions. You are allowed one 30-day extension of each entry on an METV. As is so often the case with information on Thai consulate websites, that advice you quoted is erroneous.

Of course, depending on where you are staying, a border bounce for a fresh 60-day entry may make more sense than a 1,900 baht 30-day extension, but the extension is definitely permitted.

    as i thought

thanks for clearing that up Tim ????

For safety, entering by land might be best.

Yes, any tourist entry can be extended for 30 days. Your visa, and its expiry date, has no effect on the extension of your permission to stay.

with the METV, theres no restrictions for the amount of extensions you can do right? i've done extensions before no problem (on visa exempt stamps and the old double/triple entry visas), but not on the METV before, only asking because when i read on the consulate website earlier it states...

There is no restriction on the number of times you can enter whilst the visa remains valid. With careful planning, by saving the 30-day extension for your final entry, it is possible to get an accumulation of almost 9 months in Thailand. If you make your final entry into Thailand a couple of days before the ENTER BEFORE date as shown on the visa you should be granted your final 60-day stay and then you could visit a Thai Immigration Office near to where you are staying in Thailand on about day 55 of your 60-day stay and request the 30-day extension.

    thanks

  7. Whats the latest info regards the 30 Visa exempt extension,

Can i just go to the office in Jomtien and extend the visa exempt stamp for 1900b?

Live mainly in Cambodia now but finding myself spending more and more time in Thailand again now so thinking about moving back, so trying it out for a couple of months (already here), will be getting a ED Visa if i decide to stay longer
