2 tourist visa during what period? life? after 2 TV you won't be allowed to get one more in your life ever?
That's what I want to know. And I wonder if this new rule will spread out to all consulates.

come on guys....i was thinking to fly to cambodia and immediately return, will i be granted another month?
To be clear did you enter on a SETV? If so your entry grants you 60 days with the option to do a 30 day extension @immigration anywhere within Thailand. So I'm confused as to why the IO would say you have to fly back out.

You'll have no problems what so ever.. The only question the IO may ask is if your coming back within same day.

Some have said you'll be OK others have said you could be denied entry..
I was almost denied entry (DMK) on METV which I was granted Thai consulate Melbourne. The IO's said to me they're specifically targeting foreigner's who have a history of tourist visas.. They didn't say whether it was only METV or both. Given you have prior SETV you could very well denied.. As udonjoe said make sure you have booked flight out, 20,000 baht and preferred hotel booking.
That was interesting what the consulate said "IO's operating with impunity"
I'm hoping like many others that consulates put pressure on MFA to clarify with IO's as why IO's are denying so many ppl with tourist visas whether METV or SETV.
If they don't want foreigners being issued too many tourist visas within a period of time they need to inform the consulates. So it's not a waste of time, money and inconvenience to us!

As some of you know.I was almost denied entRyan last Saturday night,Very lucky to allowed in.As someone else suggested..Media here needs to run this story, so hopefully forces immigration to clarify this issue.

Chinese travel agencies make the bulk of the money, corrupt Thai officials get their cut, Chinese-owned or -managed hotels and restaurants get the remainder; everyone wins, except the traders and lower classes of Thailand...
So true, a friend of mine bought into hotel on phuket. Problems he had with dodgy chinese tour companies and ccorrupt officials there.Long story he sold out asap! He said never again.

Ok Mr. Treetops you say they just want him to have the right visa to stay in Thailand long time and spend his money what visa is that? He is 45 so can't get a retirement visa , has not married his Thai GF yet so can't get a visa or extension to stay by reason of marriege. A METV is supposed to give you up to 9 months stay in Thailand with extensions but now even after a consulate or embassy has granted one IO's can say "no you stay too long." Elite visa ? Kind of a waste of money ( $15,000 to $28,000 USD )especially if you don't wish to spend all your time in Thailand and elite is a tourist visa just as the METV is except they give you longer time and have to pay more.
Thank you very pointing out the obvious. For me there's no other visa option.Might too add thai consulate Melbourne.Suggested the METV. FYI not that this makes a difference, but I spend a lot money here.I don't intend to live cheaply,I like to eat out nice restaurants with my gf and her kids do all things fun with them...If IOs mainly DMK don't want ppl like here, well so be it.I'll be happy to spend my money at home..

What they desire is that people arrive for a week or two, deposit a shed load of cash into the local economy and depart. They don't want under 50 year olds "living" in the country.
Happy days of back to back visa exempt entries for an indefinite period are long gone, along with the smile.
Spot on! That's why TAT is pushing so hard for Chinese tourists. They're a quick in and out.Though most of them have spent their money prior to arriving on booked package tours in China.

Thanks to OP for sharing the experience! Good that you explained the family aspect and the problem got solved easily. That confirms their recent behaviour. Immigration targets longtime stays on tourist visas. After you go official with your relationship to your future wife and register the marriage there won't be any more problems for you to enter Thailand with the Non-O visas and you can stay as long as you like, with your family of course. Congrats!
Thank you for the kind words

Yeah true, though one must ask even if an IO at Chiang Mai started asking questions.Given there's probably no international departures ( correct me if I'm wrong) They most likely let you in.My point is and I raise the suspicion are some of the IOs at DMK getting a kick back from some airlines when denying entry? As others have said DMK is by far the worst.Swampy there's some denials but not like DMK.

Why are they so scared of people spending lots of time (and money) in Thailand?
Steve I have no idea.all that I can put this down too is everything changed when the little general took over. You could see the change and the slow burn of getting worse. And I've often spoken to IOs when doing extensions. Saying I would not have a problem if there was a 6 month length of stay visa with requirements of having 400000-500000 baht.the IOs agreed. In regards to elite visa..I not going to line pockets of some high ups while most thai ppl struggle.

never mind all those who weren't.. collateral damage
thai logic never ceases to amaze me
so now, one METV per year for a couple of years is too many?? why bother even granting them?!
Yeah that's why I included my history, last time was home for almost 9 months, this year 6 month's.I think that's why the female IOs let me in, seeing that I've gone for long periods.Though I wish ministry of foreign affairs would clarify and make it clear what is allowed and not with METV.Given I had to pay $300 AUD which could have been for nothing! So consulate generals , embassy need to have a mandate from the ministry saying a person can only apply for that type of visa, how many times or if only once.Though not to be harsh, but they really don't care taking your money then being denied entry. And I'm going to call consulate in Melbourne and inform them myself of this!

Unfortunately you used the absolute worst entry point into Thailand for someone in your situation, where they make up non existent reasons for denial.
If they had of refused you, they would of lied on the refusal form citing insufficient funds for stay as the reason.
In future, I would suggest using borders, or an airport with no history of this behavior such as Chiang Mai.
Yeah I know, though the flight was scoot and part of package deal..And I've read that swampy is not that much better..

Ok ppl,
Try not write a long essay about this.
1- Visa history- 3 prior METV, last one was issued October 2018.Prior to that was home in Melbourne, Australia for 8 months.stayed till April this year. (2019)
To which I flew home stayed up till Oct.
Current METV was approved Sept 26th.
Flew in from Singapore last night arriving just before midnight.
Upon presenting my passport along with METV to female IO. (No male IO's in foreign desks)
Lady looked at my passport pages for sometime. Then called her supervisor.
Male IO and seemed to be a real hard ball type.
He said "come with me"
I ask "what's the problem"
IO supervisor "you come Thailand too many times, you live here, you go back home tonight"
So I go to the desk, two female IO's
They say same as male IO.
So now I plead my case.
I say " I know I come many times, and I only want to come last time here to visit my Thai gf and organize documents for her with visa agent for visa to Australia, please even if you give me just 7 days so I can see her and my step daughters"
This point female IOs start to lighten up they talk amongst themselves for a few min. Then one of them asks " you have photo of your gf on phone?"
"Yes I do" I show them photos.
At that point I take the opportunity to show them I have booked flight to Cambodia late November.
So after looking at my history. One of the female IO says "if we give you 60 days you go to Cambodia, not come back to Thailand?"
I say "Say no my gf and myself plan to stay Cambodia two weeks then go Singapore, then fly to Australia"
So they grant me 60days.
To which I say "thank you very much
I am not planning to come back Thailand, easy for gf once married in Australia for to get partner visa"
Oh I am 45 years of age.
FYI They told me they're specifically targeting foreigners who have a long visa history.
Finally a question I have is, if I decide to do a border run to Kanchanaburi. Will I be questioned there? As I'm not sure if the IO noted in the system something do not grant entry on current visa?
Would they do that or can they do that?
There has been nothing written on my passport page, just entry stamp along with flight number and IO signature.
Personally I always said if I ever was grilled or denied entry. That would be it for me.I happy to stay at home, bring gf out once married to Australia, then maybe when I turn 50 look at retirement visa.I'm not going to bitch and complain, been coming here on visas for sometime now.Good to have a break from all the visas, runs etc.

If you want to be really safe do a visa run to Kanchanaburi / Ban Phu Nam Ron Border Crossing.. So you'd have to fly into BKk -domestic then arrange for a visa service from Bkk to Kanchanaburi..

Hi all, an update as I did a visa run to Kanchanaburi today..IO's are most pleasant to deal with..In fact I had a chat to head IO about some tourists being denied entry at airports (mainly Don meaung) He told if a tourist has a valid visa the IO has no right to deny entry even if they use so called suspicion of that person working. As IO needs to have evidence...He did say to me quote "IO's at airports like to act like police for power trip" He said never have problems here if visa is valid no overstay..So I highly recommend for those who reside in BKk or even if you live somewhere else..Fly domestic in BKK stay a night or two and do a visa run from BKk to Kanchanaburi..You'll be back in BKK early evening for peace of mind..

My point is will it be a problem doing this a few times back to back, to stay 6 months or 9 months even if she flies out of oz and fly back in?
She cannot and my gf wouldn't want too anyway as she has work commitments

But then again, what are the chances of your gf doing border runs in oz?
She does not need too as tourist visa is valid for 3 months..Though a part of approval process is my gf has to submit a booked flight home..So in effect she can stay up to 3 months

We can speculate as to why 4 Chinese were in detention..My point I make is you'd never hear of some one being denied entry on a valid visa going back 4 or so years..Now we're hearing more and more and there's a lot more we don't hear about either..

There seems to be a very clear mandate...Whilst thai immigration is bending over backwards to accommodate Chinese tourists. They have moved in the opposite direction when it comes to westerners..Clearly they want only in and out tourists, this includes westerners too..As if your coming on a short term holiday for a few weeks, no probs..Longer term stays whether single entry tourist visa with back to back extensions or METV runs a high risk of being denied at most airports no matter what you have on you (20,000 cash flight ticket out) even been reports on problems with retirement extensions..Seems to be a clear msg "we don't want you here long time"..while most border runs seem to ok..I think it's only a matter of time till we hear and read a post here about denied entry at Nong Khai or some other border crossing. For myself I have one more extension to do on my METV and then back to Australia, with no desire to return to Thailand..Easier for me to get my gf a tourist to Aust for a couple of months..While the process may be grueling and expensive..Once approved there's no bs for her upon entry at an airport in Aust..As my gf has been twice..
Border entry denied at Don Muang
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

Even though I was nearly denied entry some months back with a METV @Don muaeng. I'm not buying this story.Op seems to know a lot of personal details. Also entering through Don mueang Airport is not a border!
