Up country...Khon Kaen. Im hoping next year I dont have to drag people up there with me. I know with marriage visas you only need to do it first year. The mountains of paperwork and jumping through the hoops I can deal with

I think the prevailing thought here, is that Bangkok Immigration generally follows the rules and don't makeup things to amuse themselves.  I remember one c&*&t at Pattaya who used make up new requirements for the marriage extension.  Never underestimate stupid people gravitating towards positions with some authority just so they can play with others.

You can use your income affidavit from the embassy to apply for your extension. It is valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

No changes to extensions based upon being the parent of Thai.

That is such a comfort.  To think the Thais don't want to hamstring the foreign fathers and mothers of Thai children just warms the cockles of my heart.  We shouldn't worry in the least that they spit in the eye of the expat retiree's camel and make it difficult for them to stay.

  3. Much like Charlie from Willie Wonka I have what is now a golden ticket.  I got an income letter towards the end of December from the US Embassy.  I am assuming I will be able to use this for my midyear extension of stay.  Plan B is to use taking care of my Thai/American daughter and as I have read the current law, I only need to show the 400,000b that it is in the account as of that day with no seasoning required.

Is all this "crackdown" crap aimed at the retirement extension or is there chatter about extending for taking care of a Thai minor?
