  1. Important is to distinguish betweeen airborn and structural born noise.

For airborne noise, Acoustblok is a great material, please don't use styrofoam, it won't help, it's too light and only works for thermal insulation.

Indeed, as mentioned, make sure that there is still some airflow to prevent the pump from overheating.

If there is any structural born noise, (noise from the pump directly into the concrete roof) than you will need to add some rubber between the pump and the roof.

You can IM me for free consulting !

    Good luck.

  2. I am an acoustical consultant, working in Thailand. There are laws to manage noise nuisance in Thailand, and there are more and more places where the law is followed up.

One law that can help you is that the difference in the sound level at your condo with and without the music from the bar cannot be more than 10 dB(A), and reading your story it will most probably be more than that so this means the bar is breaching the law.

You could file a complaint at the Rayong Community and let them perform sound measurements, it would be good to get some more people to join you.

It can be a long way but I have seen many cases where it works though never forget that you are a visitor here :)

    Good luck !

  3. Hi, sound-proofing and noise control is a very precise business, not only the glass but also the profiles, joints, panels etc. will contribute to the sound level in your room.

For the glazing, double glazing would work well for sound as well as heat insulation, laminated (tempered) glass will only work for sound insulation.

I would be happy to have a look at it and give you free advice, all I need is a drawing from your facade.

I am a professional noise control engineer with 25 years experience.

Hi SAL is Sea and Land, is a little bit faster than by land, but can easily take 2 months to Europa and 2 - 3 months to USA.

Small packet are packets or envelopes closed with a rope or staples, packet can be opened by customs. If you close a packet with tape it will be charged as a letter (more expensive).

Parcels are all packets above 2 kg.

    Hope this is helpful.

  5. Here i a very good speedtest for VoIP Connection. But you get normal bandwith test as well include down- and upload speed.

    Take a look at: http://myspeed.visualware.com/voip/

The pic attached shows the result of the test with our IP-Star today morning!! NOT USEABLE for VoIP!!

Hi, can I ask you which service provider you have and if sometimes you can use your IPSTAR connection for VOIP ?

I use IPSTAR with Acumen, and only on Sundays and sometimes early morning (before 7 am) or late evening (after 7 pm) I can use my Skype.

    Cheers

  6. Hello to all swimming pool owners in Thailand.

I am planning to build a swimming pool (approx. 15 x 8 m) and would like to get some advice from people who built one already.

    1. what is a nice/affordable size

    2. any idea of prices of the swimming pool and installation ?

    3. what is better, prefab or build yourself

Any other info is welcome as I never built a swimming pool.

If anybody knows a swimmingpool company in Isan (Udon Thani) I would be happy to hear it.

    Thanks !!

  7. Hi, I am using IPSTAR with subscription at ACUMEN. For me it is really hopeless. I have a 3500/month 512/128 and streaming is only possible before 8 am and after 7 pm !

Offline is taking almost 15 % of the time, and this mostly happens when you really need the internet.

If I take a TOT IPSTAR would streaming be possible 24/24 ? Like internet radio ?

    Thanks

  8. Noise nuisance can be controlled.

I suppose you are not the only one having problems with the noise, so you should get together with a number of people to file a complaint.

There are regulations about building noise and you should ask the owner of your building to check these. If you think that the maximum levels are exceeded you should contact the builder first and try to solve the problem gently.

If he does not want to comply with the rules voluntary, than you can go to the city council and they will send the police or the environmental department to check the levels.

Of course, you are still in Thailand, so be sure you don't make too much noise at your own.

    Good luck.

  9. Yes, same problems.

I had a fast and stable connection for 6 months (512/256), just until 3 months ago.

I complained almost every day and they always told me they could not do anything.

They advised me to run a broadband test every 2 hours or so and present them the scores, sent them to IPstar and they discounted me 50 % for 1 month.

Now the connection is still very bad, and they told me the discount is only one time.

So it is the same problem, here in Isan, no adsl available as I live outside the city, and only IPstar as satellite provider.

Let's hope one day it will improve.

    good luck...!

  10. We live in an upmarket Moo Baan here in Chiang Mai and our neighbours have decided to move out for a while and completely renovate the house with a swimming pool, pergolas, etc etc. The builders are currently living there and the noise is unbearable. I have confronted them more than 3 times now. I understand nothing can be done during the day but they start their saws at 6.15am every morning. Today is Sunday morning and they started work at 6.30am. I went off at them and they stopped until 7.30am.

I know its a feable question but are there any laws on noise pollution from building. I know in Oz you cannot work on a Sunday and during the week cannot start work before 8am. Anything similar here or am I kidding myself again that logic and respect for other people is a consideration here?

Hi, yes, there are laws about (building) noise.

The rule in Thailand is that the new noise source may not exceed the background level by 10dB(A).

This still leaves enough margin to experience noise nuisance, but nevertheless, if this law is imposed to the builder, they will have to be a lot more careful.

You would have to go to the police, and they will have to call in assistance from the environmental department to perform sound measurements. And here is Thailand, of course it depends of the people you know how fast they will respond with the sound measurements. But I have seen factories, shops and building sites closed/stopped in Thailand due to exceeding noise levels.

Rules are set for day and night periods; daytime 07.00 - 19.00 hours, nighttime 19.00 - 07.00 hours. So normally they cannot start before 7 am with making too much noise.

Good luck, and keep us posted about the proceedings.

    Michel
