  1. I don't live in Bangkok nor anywhere in Asia, and have only had the pleasure of spending 1 day in Singapore, so I have no personal experience of what is available where in BKK or Thailand in general.

I am asking questions on this wonderful site on behalf of my 18yo daughter who is volunteering like a slave in BKK, and is exhausted and a bit ill, and needing, IMHO, some red meat.

Many thanks, once again, Forum Contributors for all of your inputs. I am SO thankful that this Thaivisa.com website exists and has so many members willing to help complete strangers.

    Kind regards

  2. Thank you everyone for your responses and recommendations. Please forgive the delay in me thanking you: I have just finished moving house - packing, moving the stuff, and then unpacking. I am exhausted and the place is still a junkyard.

    All responses MUCH appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Zoe

  3. Are there any stores or butcher shops in Bangkok area that sell good quality raw beef cuts that anyone can recommend?
Location, or even better GPS, would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance. ????

Some might say the writing is on the wall , what with the latest visa problems Big Jokes crack down and now this insurance event which I forecast 2 days ago .  It does feel as if a " clear out operation " is underway to reduce the less well off falang retirees .  Had a recent quote of 3-400 pounds a month for basic insurance ( age 71 ) . The best bet is a return to my country , UK ,  get a non imm; o visa and then an extended holiday insurance policy which will exceed the quoted requirements . I have done this and claimed when hospitalised . Policy paid out and well taken care of . Policy renewed and no premium added .

The Philippines & Vietnam are starting to attract a lot of interest

Can you tell us what UK policy?

I would recommend to get the insurance from a company in your home country, if you should end up in a situation where they don't want to pay for something it's easier to sue them.

You should tell us where you are from then maybe somebody has a recommendation for you.

Sorry for the long time to reply - there are complications here! I & DD are both Brits, currently living in South Africa so DD could finish school, but not wanting to be bound by medi-vac back to SA in the event of worst-case-scenario, because I probably won't be here. SA has one good Youth provider, back evac is back to SA.

Teachers at private schools in Thailand are specifically excluded from the Thai employment laws.  They don't get social security unless their school chooses to 'opt-in' and without social security, they don't get government health insurance, though the school should offer some sort of other health insurance.

Is it still possible to pay/be charged as per private hospital to use government hospitals in the event your employer does not pay govt health insurance? Can one pay the govt health insurance as a private person, e.g., if employed by a private school?

Does being a volunteer on a Non-Immigrant O Visa, but still working in s school with a work permit, count as being employed?

Many thanks for replies (Mother trying to get her head around how to get the best coverage for her soon-to-be teacher daughter in the event of sickness or accident).

As has been pointed out on numerous occasions, please check the fine print of any insurance policy issued by a Thai company.  Many have the legal right to refuse to renew your annual policy if you have made a claim in the previous year, or can individually 'price you out' by raising the renewal premium only for you.

Insurance policies that are issued by overseas (UK, European) companies, such as BUPA International, Healthcare International, Davidshield, Cigna etc are not allowed by law to penalise you if you make a claim, and must renew your policy each year on the same terms as everyone else in your age band, (although your policy may have individual medical exclusions or a higher premium to cover pre-existing conditions that were put in place when you first took out the policy).

Thank you for your input, Simon. Much appreciated! ????

SInce he lives here , I am pretty sure he owns it.

Like so many other foreigners who lives and works here, most of them can afford a bike, but not a car when your monthly income is under 50k baht .

I just don't understand why they don't use their brain, being a teacher and all that. Insurance is not expensive here.

Please recommend the insurance that teachers should get: company, policy, contact details if possible, Many thanks.

Brits can get travel insurance up to 18 months, and many companies offer extensions to that too! Really no excuse, but of course feel for the guy and hope he recovers, medically and financially.

Expecting the school to cover is folly too!

Please recommend this insurance company and product to us. We are newbies and would like to be adequately insured. Many thanks.

I do have sympathy for this guy .

The deceased female was driving the boat and she was the one who went full throttle and hit a submerged log which caused the speed boat to crash and killing her .

O.K, it was his boat and he allowed her to speed , but she should be held responsible for her own actions  , rather than him getting jailed for manslaughter
