the question remains what it's better for the country in the long run: to have foreigners in the country who like to live and spend their vacation there or if it is good to rip them off

Unfortunately it's a terrible place for any kind of outdoor sports usually from mid December until end of April because of the horrible air quality due to the burning. I just left Chiang Mai after 4 years because I was sick damaging my health. Many foreigners are leaving all for the same reason! Only Chinese are attracted because for them it's an improvement from 12 months of bad air per year.

I'm leaving Chiang Mai and Thailand in 3 weeks after having lived here for more than 4 years. I am not willing to damage my health any further due to the horrible air quality during the burning season and the sometimes racist comments from members of the government.... All in all I did not feel well here despite the wonderful nature and the mostly very nice people

absolutely...I would say at least 6 million....thats about 10 % of the society...this means proportionally another 130 million tourists from India and 130 million tourists from China !!! And all have to fly Thai Airways ! I love to budget this way....hopefully it will not be translated to thai....

Widespread burning has already started south of Chiang Mai.... I don't know the rest of the North but assuming they do the same...... I would have left already but have to wait due to Corona... Only the Chinese are happy with that since it's much worse in their own country.... Looking very much forward until the end of April.....
