  1. This story concerns an outstanding mortgage belonging to a Thai family,

owed to a Thai cooperative organization.

The father, who took the mortgage out, died 5 years ago and his wife

inherited everything from him but has since not made any repayments.

It is understood that the outstanding amount owed on the mortgage is in

    the region of 600,000 baht.

The cooperative has approached the mother asking her to sign a

declaration to repay the loan in monthly installments. She does not want

to do this and instead has offered the cooperative the land in return

which has a value of approximately 1,200,000 baht.

So far the cooperative have refused to take their land and have instead

setup a repayment plan. They insist they want the loan repayed with cash

    payments every month.

Please could you tell me Where they stand in the Thai law ?

Can a mortgage loan can be arbitrarily changed into a personal loan ?

If this is the case, can the daughter be held responsible for the loan

    repayments ?

    Any advice appreciated

  2. They already have the plastic wrapping for luggage at the new airport. From what I understand its free.

I had a weird experience at the new airport when I arrive from England on new years eve.

I bought my ticket to Trat and because I had to wait 4 hours, I put my bag in the left luggage.

I then went outside to have a smoke and read the paper, later to the toilet. Then as I was walking around the airport I suddenly realised that both my airline ticket and ticket for left luggage were no longer in my back pocket. I rushed down to the toilet to look for them, thinking that I may have dropped them. I asked the cleaning staff and they said they had not seen my tickets. As I was heading up the escalator to the ticket desk I was approached by a Thai man who gave me his business card and told me I could buy another plane ticket from his shop. I quickly went to the ticket office and it was no problem to reprint the ticket at no cost. Then to the left luggage where I explained I lost my ticket and was able to get my bag back by showing my passport.

I'm still not sure if this was an attempted scam or was just an accident. I was very tired from the journey from England.

I was quite impressed by the new airport although I could no longer buy lambert and butler at the duty free shop when I arrived.

  3. Sorry if this has been asked already.

I want to know if its still possible to buy 5 cartons of cigarettes to take back to England for personal use.

I did it last year at Don Muang by going to different shops buying one carton in each. Back then there did not seem to be a hi-tech computer system in place to check it a customer had bought duty free over their limit.

As it happened, last year when I arrived in Heathrow I was stopped and my baggage was searched. They told me I had gone over my limit for cigarettes and not to do it next time, but was still allowed to keep the 5 cartons I took with me.

I want to ask this because if its not possible now then I will buy 5 cartons in a shop in Bangkok before I go to the airport .

    Thanks in advance.

  4. A few years ago in Bangkok, I met a monk who was waiting for his enlightenment. He seemed like a good man but did not have so much energy.

Another time in Bangkok I studied for Tia Chi with Thai man called Tew Bunnag. I dunno if he was ever a monk but he seemed to have some special aura about him. He has also written an English language book about his thoughts on life in Thailand. Not sure if he still teaches but 4 years ago he was at the Dance centre on Sukhumwit just off soi 33.

The person who left the most lasting impression on me I met in Austria at the Wok 'n' Tok restaurant in Eisenstadt. His name is Hanne and he had a lot of love for people and a lot of power.

From my own experience there definately needs to be more people like this in the world !

  5. I have been staying on a yearly marriage visa for the past 2 years.

This year I do not have the 400,000 baht in the bank, also my wife and I do not generate 40k every month. We have a home and business on a holiday island and only make good money in the high season.

So I'm heading to England to get a 15 month multiple entry non immigrant O visa this December.

Next year we should be in a position to show 40k per month, all being well.

My question is : will I be able to get a one year extension when my multiple entry expires next year ?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Thanks for replies.

    A quick update.................

I telephoned the Thai embassy in KL and was told that I needed a work permit if I wanted a multiple entry non immigrant O visa.

I have also been told by a friend of mine that Sunbelt asia told him New Delhi and Australia are the closest places that will issue multiple entry visas.

I've decided to head back to England. I phoned that Thai consulate in Birmingham and was told there would be no problem to get a multiple entry - only I have to show a copy of the marriage certificate and my passport, it will cost 90 pounds.

At least I will be able to spend Xmas back home with family and friends.

  7. I'm and Englishman maried to a Thai laday and for the past 2 years I've had a one year visa because I had 400,000 baht in the bank.

This year I do not have the money and have been unable to find someone to borrow from.

My local immigration office have not been so friendly. They told me I would only be able to get a 3 month visa from Penang and then I would have to leave Thailand.

Some friends of mine who are also married to a Thai lady have been staying on a mulitple entry non immigrant O visa which they used to buy in Penang and could then stay for 15 months, going to the nearest border very three months. For this they did not have to show 400,000 baht in the bank.

I have heard through the grapevine that KL is the best pace to go. I tried emailing the Thai embassy in KL but get no reply. I would like to find out if its possible to obtain 4 or 5 three month, non immigrant O visas in one visit to the KL embassy.

    Any advice appreciated.
