Your last paragraph is exactly how most governments see it. The rest of what you wrote... they just don't care.

That said - some people planned to spend the rest of their lives in Thailand. Why didn't they prepare for it? It's like if you want to have very nice retirement, but you refuse to save up for it, then complain it's everyone else's fault that you now can't enjoy retirement.

There was a path to citizenship or at least permanent residence to many that came to Thailand while they were still working and got married in Thailand. But with wisdom of many posters here, they'd NEVER apply for PR or citizenship, as they are all worthless, useless, rip off, etc.

That's fine, if they just stop complaining when the tide turns against them.

Pr requires quite a good amount of money. Scoring points for citizenship is not so automatic, School degrees make points and income also ( It's not something for everybody to work on ), Many Filipinos and Lao citizen married to Thai women come here when they are young and with the actual salary is not so easy to prepare for retirements and to meet the such amazing deals offered with PR and citizenship.

Not every foreigner have been spoon fed and come from wealthy realities.

As a comparison, isn't neighbouring Cambodia currently saying that tourists can enter if they deposit USD 3000?

They went already down to 2000 US deposit. Hotel 30 US a day for a room + 30 US for 3 meals. Covid test 100 US. You get a 1 month visa from the embassy, when you are there can convert to 1 year business visa for 240 US if done alone, 300 US with agency ( next day you get the passport with no hassle at all)....Instead of inventing brilliant inventions the government could just look to their neighbours what they are doing and COPY please...

so anyone hear of any talk about amnesty extension on today's agenda?

Maybe on October could be possible to switch to these Special Visa for the "Sranded" foreigners and the thousends that will be left without a job in case the real tourists would not come back. Untill now my filipinos colligues had to leave the country after beeing fired, working 12 years in Thailand, paying the SSO every month and they are not able to get a single baht even if they have the right because you need to go fisically to the SSO office.... You have the right to be unemployed and to recieve compensation for 6 months but you don't have the right for a visa...

Never, there is no funding available to locals, yet alone foreigners. There is no welfare system to burden. This is Thailand trying to punch above their weight again,,, if someone from a developing country goes to a developed country it is legitimate to ask for proof of funds because they often travel as tourists to then work illegaly. Who in their right mind would travel from the west to illegally work in Thailand? Total load of nonsense and yet another reason why people wont bother with Thailand. You cant make this stupidity up,, you really cant.

Sorry Sir but your view is a little bit ethnocentric, not only people from developed countries come here as tourists, many Filipinos do also and there's nothing wrong with that. I came to Thailand with a tourist visa and limited founds but could find a job after 2 weeks. People are not stupid, you don't need to have so much money to travel, can work during the journey, volunteer, help out in exchange for food and shelter. If people are left free they don't become a problem for the country. Why should not be possible to be here on holiday and look around for a job and start straight away? What's the point?

P.S. In the article Mr. Suphan Mongkolsutee said:

..Thailand has the potential to accommodate tourists and tourists want to come to Thailand, so every tourist who enters Thailand should apply for a visa so that Thailand can check various information, including finance Because you will be confident when problems occur Such person will not create a burden on Thailand.

The regular 20.000 bht for the 3 month period could be enough. Being the Special Visa 9 month it could be checked every 3 month on the renewal of the stamp date. A simple travel insurance that covers In-Patient treatments is around 1000 bht per month with a international company.

Your plan is OK, though immigration at Pedang Besar is reported to have become strict. Another option would be a bus from Khao Lak to Ranong, border bounce there (US$10 for the border pass) and return. No need for an overnight stay. If still in Bangkok, the run to Ban Phun Nam Ron would make sense. If planning a border bounce on the way from Bangkok to Kha0 Lak, I would definitely suggest using Ranong rather than going all the way to Malaysia.

Thanks a lot for the answers to everybody!

    How it works in Ranong?

The border pass is like a one day visa?

Have buses from other cities on the south way , like Surat thani?

  6. Hello Everybody! I’m looking for cheap border run alternatives. Seeking this forum for suggestions.

    My situation now:

I’m changing job, moving from Bangkok to Khao Lak. I’m on non B visa ( Extension of stay 1 year)

I will work untill 15 October than exit the country and planning to come back with a 1 month visa exemption.

I’m trying to save as much money as possible. In Khao Lak I will have room and food and fast conversion to a non b visa.

My budget is about 10.000 bht

My idea: take special express BKK to Pedang Besar, Sleep somewhere and next day train to Hat Yai, Bus to Phuket, Bus to Khao Lak.

The flights at the moment are more expensive for those days.

I will get day off on my last day s so that after work permit and visa cancellation I should have enough time to leave the country before the midnight of the 15/10.

Thank you all for futures answers.
