I was fortunate that my very first sejourn in Thailand was in NE Isaan. Small town divided in villages, or Bans. Life was everywhere with children, dogs, cows, wandering down the street. Food vendors going by on their tricycles. Hospitality by my host was warm and open. Not to mention the symphony of greens of all shades, the weather with its storms and bucketloads of rain. I loved it. Had to fly back to WA. Talk about boring suburbia. I want to go back, settle there, find a companion to accompany me beyond my 69 years.
Thais are as they are, so are the Turks, Indians, Bengladeshis and the rest of the world. What they have and the others don’t is hospitality, smiles, easy goingness and tolerance. I never felt any form of discrimination because I was a non thai speaking farang.

Windy.com is a lot better than Ventusky - a lot more accurate as they use much better weather modelling data. Ventusky has good CGI but wildly inaccurate - at least for where I live.
And where might that be where you live ?

...2 years ago the river and lake by our house flooded.. part of our house was flooded.. the old people said they had never seen anything like that before.. this year it happened again.. These floods were caused by weather systems coming off the Pacific and South China Sea.. coming over from the Philippines.. These storm systems are getting stronger because of warming sea temperatures.. This whole north east area is drained by the Chi river.. originating in the mountains behind Khon Kaen. I flows to Maha Sarakham... where the Pao river from the huge Lam Pao dam enters with flood waters from our area.. it flows to Roi Et and on to Ubon Ratchathani where it joins the Mun River and flows on into the Mekong River. All these places along this river system have experienced floods 2 years ago and are experiencing huge floods at the moment from these huge storms.. they are likely to get worse as the oceans warm even more. Climate change in action. Climate change deniers .. go stick your heads back in the sand.. do not reply to this.. zero tolerance for ignorance..
Surely the pattern is not the same with the NE Issan. I lived in Phon Charoen, Bueng Kan Province, and although it did not rain so much at the ‘ time, it did enough to quench the rice paddies. The winds and rains seemed to come from the ESE, under the influence of fronts from the Gulf of Bengal and Andaman sea. Whereas indeed the Khon Khean region was badly affected by drought at the same time (Jul-Aug this year)

I don’t get it. Why should tourists have an compulsory insurance ? If one buys one’s journey with a Credit Card, there is an insurance. Tourists can also buy separate travel insurances for various length of time for different parts of the world. Isn’t there a confusion between tourists and residents ? As for residents, if they obtain a Thai ID card, are they not entitled to health services anyway ? This issue with insurance baffles me.

My first ever visit in Thailand was in Isaan, near Bueng Kan on the banks if the Mekong. I fell in love with that province and its people. Fell madly in love with one if their women too. She eventually dumped me, but that’s another story. If I could finish my life somewhere (am only 69), that would be the place.

« Thailand needs to have the continuity in the administrations run by the democratically elected governments to solve the inequality on a non-interrupted basis. » end of quote..
Am I missing something here ? She’s staying on the safe side for sure ..

I don’t see the issue here. I was pulled up at a check point at a small village in Isaan. I was asked for my licence -Australian-, where I lived (more for the officer to practice his English) and handed my licence back with a curteous « Than you sir, have a nice stay in Thailand ». All smiles. So why this continuous wingeing from some of us farangs.. ?

Prayut should command rain to fall instead of asking for cheaper rice !

Well up North East, Lao border way we have plenty of rain. Paddies are full of water. No worries there. My in laws have three ponds chock o’block of green shoots, their year’s worth of sticky rice. For their own consumption. Bangkok has been treating Isaan people like dung for too long, so they can crawl for their sticky rice as far as I’m concerned. Whatever grows in Isaan stays in Isaan..

God is my conscience, my analysis of what’s good and bad and the consequences of my actions. It has no gender. In contrast, religion (whichever one) is the exploitation of man’s superstition by ... man (notice, no women involved in this business). Somewhere I read thad God was the Verb. When put into writing .. by men, it became Law with all its injustices and the consequences we are daily reminded of.. Alleluia

I might be an excellent example of living here for 17 years.
It's obvious that quite a few longtime posters here are fully aware what's going on and they never have such problems we always read about here.
"Does my (bar) gf really love me?" ( And other nonsense questions>>>)
It's incredible to see how some people on their holiday behave.
People who've never ridden a big bike all in a sudden rent a big bike and then crash seems to happen way too often. Including GoFundMe PLEASE.
Not wearing a helmet and being drunk only multiplies the dangers on Thailand's roads.
Never get into a fight with a Thai, even when you'd consider it as your right. You'll never win an argument here. Never ever.
Using common sense and "reading between the lines" helps a lot.
When traveling on a bus, the use of NCA is highly recommended.
They have new busses, two drivers with a lot of experience and you very seldom hear of a bus accident where this company was in involved.
Would I walk around in the Bronx, or Caracas in the morning hours with a golden bracelet around my neck and a wallet full of $$$?
Of course not. Why are people doing that here?
Many problems include bar girls who are there to play the caring wife, but she gets paid for it. Prostitutes here are perhaps more likable, and they learn very fast what foreigners like to hear.
If somebody never had a woman before and a bar girl then tell him that she loves him too much, that's just the beginning of a never ending nightmare.
If you don't ride a bike drunk without a license, you're already wise.
When you understand that prostitutes only want your money and not your company for the next 50 years, you're already wise and clever. And if you have the ability to differentiate between being a walking ATM, or a customer of a prostitute, you're good to go and an expert.
Prostitutes in our countries make the fast cash and it's clear that you only get what you've paid for. In advance.
Unfortunately, do many people here believe that their bar girls are so different that they have to safe her from this bad world sent money every month and truly believe that she'd quit her job and is waiting for him in Baan Pee Baa.
Life's too short to look for troubles in a country where you neither understand what the people say, nor do you know much about their culture.
If you respect others the way you'd like to be recognized, you won't have problems in this country. Don't be arrogant and stupid and people will realize that.
But if you believe that you've paid a lot of money for your flight and hotel and bought a sort of a right to behave like an idiot, you don't need to be surprised when all goes wrong and you end up badly.
Too many people leave their countries with a lot of problems. You can't leave them at the airport, and they're all the time with you.
Some alcohol and the wrong people and the chaos is programmed.
But not only in Thailand. You can use the girls and have a great time, but don't let them abuse you, or your credit card. Or mom's cash.
Don't fall in love with an illusion how things could be.
Well said. So true. May I add: while you’re in Thailand, go see Isaan, you’ll be out of the beaten tracks and nicely surprised.
Love from Phon Charoen

If you a Aussie visit Tasmania safe. Too many Aussie travel to dangerous places and never travel there own country. I travelled Australia extensively before going overseas.
When I lived in Adelaide I met many people always holidayed in Bali but never ever visited another state except airport transfer.
That’s because airport transfers are safe and air conditioned.. and .. you can see the world walk past you ????

A while ago as I was driving my car, I came to a police check point strategically placed a few meters after a T-junction (small side road on my left). As I was approaching the junction one of those utility trucks surged on my left, refusing my right of way. I did not stop.. blew my horn, forced the ute to stop and accept my right of way. All this while being watched by the police. Nothing happened, I went through and so did the ute.
Find the error.
I do not believe in Thai anymore.
Beautiful land inhabited by idiots.
