  1. Bangkok should implement something like in Kuala Lumpur - RM50 (around THB 380) for an unlimited use monthly pass for all lines, including buses.
  2. The Taiwanese government freed the scammers, not kicked them to mainland China. https://www.business-standard.com/article/news-ians/20-taiwanese-fraud-suspects-deported-from-malaysia-freed-116041600419_1.html That's why subsequently the Malaysian government deported the Taiwanese scammers to mainland China instead. The Taiwan government was not happy about it and protested. https://www.nst.com.my/news/2016/11/193100/taiwan-protests-against-malaysias-deportation-telco-fraud-suspects-china Taiwanese scammers are found in many parts of the world, such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Spain, Kenya, Armenia. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/6/28/indonesia-says-will-deport-103-taiwanese-suspected-of-cybercrimes-in-bali https://www.occrp.org/en/news/armenia-78-taiwanese-among-129-deported-to-china-for-fraud
  3. No way Thailand is going to remove visa free status for China tourists. Already lost to Malaysia last year as Southeast Asia's no. 1 tourist destination. Some years back, Malaysia tourist numbers were higher than Thailand's, but it lost the title to Thailand after some stupid Malaysian politicians got rid of the visa-free status for China tourists. And now Malaysia had beaten Thailand again after the visa-free status were reinstated for China tourists.
  4. The Taiwanese were in the scamming business earlier than the mainlanders. Here in Malaysia, some years back, the police caught many Taiwanese scammers and deported them back to Taiwan but the Taiwan gov simply released them so after that the authorities deported them to Mainland China instead and from then onwards the Taiwanese scammers didn't dare to operate from Malaysia anymore.
  5. In Thailand, the language used when dealing with the government is Thai. In business, the language used is also Thai. So it is no wonder that the Thais are poor in English - they simply do not have the need to use it on a daily basis, unless they are in the tourism business. Here in Malaysia, the language used when dealing with the government is Malay and English. In business, the language used is Malay, Chinese and English. That's why the typical Chinese Malaysian can read and write Malay, English and Chinese. Most Thai Chinese and Indonesian Chinese can not speak Chinese.
  6. Malaysians like me have no problem using our Malaysian e-wallet and banking apps to pay PromptPay. Maybe there aren't that many of your kind that visits Thailand so banks from your country do not bother to integrate with Promptpay. Also, we may not need to open Thai bank accounts to save on ATM withdrawal fees because we can withdraw from our Malaysian bank accounts from banks such as UOB and CIMB without any charges.
  7. Yes, Singapore is definitely not squeaky clean. In fact Singapore attracted many successful criminals to move there. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/billion-dollar-money-laundering-case-recap-cna-explains-conclusion-4401811 As you can see from the list, many of them have Cambodian citizenships.
  8. Only the greedy Cambodian politicians should be blamed for ruining Sihanoukville. The Chinese criminals simply took advantage of the opportunities available.
  9. What is the definition of murder? The unlawful act of killing with premeditation. The often repeated accusation decades later by some authors that Mao killed millions of people during the Great Leap Forward but if it was a famine, why would that be considered intentional killing? Anyway, the CIA had confirmed that the famine did not happen when it released its archive on the issue in 2004, too late to debunk those authors that made the accusations. The Economic Situation in Communist China
  10. Nothing to do with any country. It's all about psychology. The Psychological Trick Scammers Rely on and How to Protect Yourself
  11. Singaporeans have no trust in their police too? Scam victims in Singapore lost S$385.6 million in first half of 2024 as number of cases hits high of 26,587
  12. Nonsense. This kind of scam, is the most common scam here in Malaysia. Hundreds fell for it each year. Many victims simply believed that they were in serious trouble and that the callers were real policemen.
  13. China under Mao ended drug addiction. And no, Mao did not execute the millions of opium and heroin addicts. He did however execute some drug lords.
  14. Well too bad the Thais swallowed the Western narrative that the Chinese loans were "debt traps" and so they decided to finance it on their own. Only problem was that they didn't really have the money, and so the project progresses at a snail's pace. China doesn't mind if the borrowers default on their loans. The loans were given as a way to divert the huge USD holdings away from the US without strengthening the yuan, which would be bad for exports. Which is better? US defaulted or 100 countries defaulted?
  15. Infidels like me in Malaysia simply ignore the fidels. Ethnic Malay politicians use religion to gain votes, so they often try to outdo each other in showing off who is the bigger defender of Islam. We can eat non-halal food, drink and gamble legally. Non-Malays like me are discriminated from entering public universities and the civil service, so we simply go into business or join the private sector and study at private universities.
  16. Of course he had googled for the exact quote, but he definitely knew some history about the project in the first place.
  17. You must be the rare farang that knew about the whole story, and/or very interested in a better rail infrastructure in Thailand.
  18. I am rather surprised that most farangs here did not know that Chinese companies were not involved in the HSR construction in Thailand. The level of hatred for China is unbelievable.
  19. Many EV manufacturers in China have switched to the much safer LFP battery. Scooter batteries however, are mostly of the older lithium ion NCM/NCA battery type. Older BYD hybrids also used NCM batteries but newest BYD hybrids have switched to LFPs. And of course BYD EVs use mainly LFPs.
  20. My guess is automotive parts. Here in Malaysia, in the past, whenever I need to replace any car part, my mechanic usually propose parts from either Malaysia or Thailand. Nowadays? Almost always, parts from China, because they are cheaper and surprisingly better quality than the Thai and Malaysian versions.
  21. Tesla and other foreign automakers also received subsidies from China. It depends on how many EVs that they have sold. Because BYD sold more EVs than Tesla, it received more subsidies. EU Concerns About Chinese Subsidies: What the Evidence Suggests
  22. Pakistan's Hangor class submarines use CHD620 engines. Hangor class submarines are of the same class of submarines ordered by Thailand. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangor-class_submarine The CHD620 is a licensed version of the German MTU 396. China had produced CHD620 engines for export to Germany. https://www.defensemirror.com/news/35501/Chinese_Submarine_Engine_is_a_Licensed_produced_German_Powerplant__Thai_Navy_Chief
  23. Please read some history books, will you? China had saved Thailand's ass twice. First time was after the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. China attacked Burma from the North which forced the invading Burmese army to retreat from Siam. The second time was during Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia, which was putting Thailand at risk. China attacked Vietnam from the North which forced some Vietnamese forces to pull back from Cambodia. Both Myanmar and Vietnam had been at war with Thailand many times in the past. China? Never.
  24. Thailand did not borrow any money from China for this project. That's probably the reason why it is progressing at a snail's pace.
