They do get it. This is why their plan is to only have one to three flights per week. 1200 per month.

Quilty tourist is what they been pushing since talks of reopening started.

They can definitely get 1200 people per month with this new scheme.

They can definitely get those numbers every month for the foreseeable future. While added more flights and more asq hotels and visitors.

    This is their ultimate plan.

The question is can they hit there money goals while in this scheme. While every other business around them go under. I doubt that but it seems they are willing to have that collateral damage.

Going forward it seems that all they want is high end tourists who wish to stay in the country for a few months each year....the 2 week sex millionaires of Pattaya, etc are finished which is what they have wanted for many years...

I agree. My worldwide insurance policy covers me up to 2 million euros, 100% in and out patient, and covid-19 coverage is included. I sure do hope they won't force expensive redundant insurance upon us. I can prove I have insurance and that should really be enough.

Nope - I would imagine that the Thai government approved insurance companies are the same ones as on the approved list for the O-A retirement visa. These companies are the only ones that they will accept...sad but true

Most people with loans don't own anything for the banks to take.

IMHO Banks are just as likely to fail as any other business.

I really don't expect tourism to be profitable again in the near (5-10 years) future.

Lock-downs and border closures look like lasting for the rest of my life.

I'm really not optimistic for any miracle vaccine to solve the world's problems.

And as far as I can see, most governments seem to be enjoying their new found powers of oppression.

Fully agree with your views...it will take a generation and by that I mean 10 years for tourism to recover...there is a vaccine for flu,yet thousands die of flu each year..can't see Covid being any different...As for Pattaya and the other sex venues in Thailand, I suspect they are finished. It's well known that the government have wanted to clean up these places for a long time and now is that opportunity and it appears that they are taking it with both hands and I understand why. They are no doubt fed up of their country being regarded as the sex capital of the world...yes it will take several years to rid the country of that tag. Will probably tie in with it taking a generation for tourism to recover by which time the sex venues will have long gone and been replaced by more family oriented venues...

  4. Why does a visitor from Thailand to the UK have to do 14 days quarantine on arrival in the UK? The stats would indicate that Thailand has handled the Covid-19 pandemic much better than the UK and has been complimented by the WHO which suggests to myself and several others I have spoken with that this stance when considering Thailand's close relations with China is more politically driven than health related ?

  5. I'm currently in the UK and trying to work my way through the Immigration minefield...I'm 60 years old and retired - I know that I can apply on line for a Non-Imm O-A visa which if used correctly will give me 2 years stay following which I can apply for retirement extensions using the 800000 or 65000 baht methods. I was also considering using a 60 day visa issued by a Thai Consulate in the UK and extending this by a further 30 days at Jomtien Immigration following which using one of the extension methods as above. However I was also wondering if the consulate at Savannakhet issues multi-entry Non-O visas to retirees?  I believe it does if married but not sure if it does for retirees. If it does I could consider applying for this as it would in effect provide me with 15 months before going down the retirement extension route.

    Advice is welcomed

  6. I have looked into obtaining a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa from the UK ( London) and know that I am able to use this method and can get nearly 2 years stay from it before considering converting to a retirement visa - however I have to wait for Police clearance and doctor to sign me as medically fit.. which should not be a problem alhough I have to wait for 3 weeks for a doctors appointment!

Another way which I have considered is to obtain a 60 day SETV at a UK Consulate ( Liverpool ). As that comes to its end apply for the retirement visa from inside Thailand using the 800000 baht in my Thai account - would this be allowed?

Does the 800000 need to be seasoned in my Thai account for 3 months before I apply ?

I realise there is also the 65000 baht a month transferred from my UK account to my Thai account

Do the Thai authorities allow a combination of the two ? e.g. 400,000baht and 32,500 baht a month ?

Any other ways which I will be able to apply for a retirement visa are appreciated

    Thanks

    Chris

Jim  - I am in the process of applying for the same visa  - one of the boxes on the form asks for evidence substantiating your purpose of visit for NON-IMMIGRANT OR LONG STAY ONLY... I'm struggling what to put in this box - your help will be much appreciated - thanks  - Chris
