That ###### drive to the airport is the worst and the flight back to New York is always so early in the morning which make it even worst. My second trip back home I had tears in my eyes on the plane back.

  2. Now I understand why I get so many looks when I walk in the street in Thailand, in bars the ladies does not come near me unless there are as dark as me. I totally understand that because I'm from the caribean and the lighter you are the better the job you can get, the pretiest girl you can have.

There are some great advantages of being a black man in Thailand, I don't get hassle like my white counter part in areas like Patpong, Nana or Patong, I don't get drag into bars by three to four girls. I can walk into a bar and be there for the music and have a couple beers real quite and go back to my hotel, as long I say I from somewhere in Africa. It's great specially when you want to be left alone, sometime I can even get good deals because of it, once they hear me speak english it's over but it's fun.

I am in love with Thailand, I don't want to use that word you guys are using. I went over there last May '03 for the first time with a side trip to Ankor Wat. Since, I have been there three times in less than 9 months with a Vietnam side trip, now all i think about it it's how I can go back permanently. All I do now is looking at my 401k balance and think, do I really have to wait till I'm 65 to get that money and die two months later. No siree Bob, I'm hoping one day I'll have eenough courage to just say Phuket, in this instance pronounce f.. it, and move there. Even if I have to give the goverment half of it and maybe I'll have enough left to open a small business.

I hate flying for more than four hours but when going to the LOS I really don't care how long it takes, the fly back home always seems longer for some reason. My vacation are base now on what other city that are less than two hours from Bangkok, my last trip to LOS also included a side trip to Hanoi. The french have better to discribe that feeling which I think is way better than addictive, coup de foudre, meaning being strick by lightning. That is what I felt my first time there now I want to repeat that sensation over and over again and that is with only being in three cities in the LOS, the north is still waiting.

  4. Here is an idea for the overcharge situation in Thailand, why don't someone who has been living in Thailand for a while or even a Thai person put a list of goods and their price.

Even if it's an aproximate price it will be better than the four to sometime six time the amount we pay. I don't mind paying an extra 20 or 50 but not paying 200 for something that is worth 40.

  5. Thank you everyone for your input on being a darker color in Thailand, I thought it was because of lack of contact with blacks but when I saw women shielding their faces while walking or riding on a bike I knew they did not want to get darker.

The good thing or maybe it's a bad thing I have encounter this behavior before. A lot of the caribean island have that same  stigma, the lighter black you are the better looking or richer people think you are. It sounds crazy but it's true, women would go for guys with less kinky hair lighter skin etc.

Who cares I love to travel and I love Thailand it won't be the last I will encounter these behaviors, #### I live in the states. One good thing though it was great sitting in a bar have nice dring talk with the bartender or patrons without having girls all over you asking for a lady drink. When they find out I was an american the behavior change so if I did not want to be bothered I would tell them I'm from some African country.

I wish i was one those rich eccentric like you say but no, I'm a guy who would like to be on permanent vacation and the only way to do it is to own my own business. I have mentioned what to avoid because you might know what have the highest rate of failure. I would like to open or start something that only Tourist would use but Thai as well.

I'm not sure what I would like to invest in yet but i have sometime.

  7. To everyone who know about this please respond, what is the Thai attitude with black people.

While i was there I encounter some strange behavior, people would give me a strange smile and follow me with their eyes. While white guys were getting pull to go to bar no one would try that with me even street street vendors would stay away, why.

I loved it because no one bothered  me or trying to pull into any bar, same thing in Phuket where I even went to a bar that was empty but non of the girls  would even come and talk to me. That was strange, good thing I was not there for that or else my vacation would of been a mess.

I love Phuket so much that I'm thinking of opening or leasing a business there. I don;t want to invest money and find out later that Thai would not buy from me or things might be more difficult for me a black man.

Thank you for any insight you may provide
