Traffic road blocks is one thing, immigration hunts is what i do not agree with.

With traffic stop shake downs, to be honest i do not have a problem at all.

In all honesty and fairness, how many times per day do you break traffic rules one way or another?

I know i do a dozen times per day, ranging from illegal uturns, to illegal parking, speeding and few other things.

If and when i get pulled over and shaken down for 500-1000 baht, i do not mind paying at all even more so when i was caught doing something illegal.

Back in the West, you park 2 cm more than allowed away from the curb and you get a huge fine, you park too close to the corner and you get a fine, you park 1 min later than the meter and you get a fine, you speed and camera gets you, you run yellow light and you pay the fine.

So, its really not a bad deal to be able to get away with most traffic infringements but get caught on occasion ????

I dont mind either for the aboved mentioned...but I do mind getting fined for not being thai and not for breaking the driving laws.

  2. So these people have stopped traveling in boats for sight seeing??? They have just gone off and are seeing other places and the same thing is happening there. What is the condtion of James Bond Island???

They mentioned sharks have come back...the first day of the tour boats come back and they are gone. Shouldnt be used as a bar of success as they will flee as soon as their enviroment is altered.

It looks to me as you are part of the problem that causes everybody to be under increased scrutiny. I think that Thai laws regarding foreigners are very biased and racist, but you don't need to give them more ammunition to justify the ridiculous rules in place.

Part of the problem in what way? I obtained SETV from embassy/consulates as provided by them...followed all writtens rules in obtaining and renewing them. Overstays were were the only infractions I committed and they were less than 90 days which would have been a required Thailand ban. Looking at the laws there are no limits on SETVs...

I have ask several lawyers about the investment visa. They said sometimes they get it sometimes they dont...and there was as no rhyme or reason for being denied it.  The required documents are laid out...but change based on the individual IO who sits at the desk that day.

To be placing people under more scrutiny if I followed the rules they provided...?

Besides the overstays in my  8.5 year old passport where I was coming and going from work 3 or 4 times a year I got all the correct visas for my intentions of being here. I do condsider myself as living here now...what visa matches my circumstances. I work outside the country for 3-4 months at a time and return for 28-35 days. I will be going back to work in the next year or so. I actually didnt expect to be here this long on this trip. So my last SETV worked for me and I didnt expect to be here to be this long. I tried to get another SETV But was denied. I dont own a business or work. I am not a teacher or volunteer...not over 50. And as I am on holiday I dont want to attend classes 4 times a week for 2 hours a day every week...not my idea of relaxing on my holiday as I have a set place to be at a certain time 4 days a week.

I don't think it's about you work here or not. I think it's about you staying here on a tourist visa and you are not a tourist.

What is the definition of a tourist? If it 30/60 days....than at 31/61 days what is a person considered...living here or? Just wondering as there is nothing in the thai legal paperwork/laws. There are many people that own homes here and travel back and forth several times a year. They are under 50...don't work or own a business and dont attend a thai language school. What would they be considered.

you can buy ED visa, or if you are above 50, a retirement extension

I never understood this. If he was marked as not enough money or they think he is working....an education visa just says he goes to school...and by no way shows how he is paying for the school or his daily activities and living expenses. It is just making it more difficult for him to do the same thing he is doing therd currently...and forcing or turning many people to rethink where they decide to live andspend their money.

  7. Myself and 2 others 2 weeks ago were not allowed to leave the border crossing with Poi Pet. We had overstays...mine was 10 or so days. The others not sure. Not saying this happens everywhere...but they told us we had to go to don mueang to leave Thailand. I have never heard of it before. I have heard the Aran/Poi Pet is the worst. Just forwarding what happened to me 2 weeks ago. I would say give yourself 2 days extra incase they turn you around...doubt it will happen...but this happened to me, same as the two others in that line. Funny...none of the cambodians in the overstay line were told to go back through don mueang airport.

  8. Had a "denied without prejudice" in blue for my  SETV. So correct on the Embassy denying too. I have been reading back post now and heard many people have been denied this year from the Phnom Penh embassy.

I have to look into that for the work permit on the condos. I could in theory not even be in Thailand as they are rented out. They are rented through the buildings management company. I dont "work" but have to ask laywers about filing taxes this year to be in compliance.
