  1. Nokia C7 and N8 cover both WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100. Not as fancy as the iPhone or HTC/Samsung/LG`s, however they do know how to keep you connected. Free GPS Maps all over the world, inkl. Thailand, is another bonus.

WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 is not 3G (HSDPA/HSUPA), and will not work with either AIS or True in the Pattaya area for GPRS/EDGE or 3G service. I believe Hutch (which was taken over by True) provided CDMA service for the Pattaya/Jomtien area. CAT also provides CDMA service, but I'm not sure they provided service for Pattaya or left it to Hutch to serve the Pattaya area.

Actually CHdiver got the semantics wrong, think what he wanted to say is, that the Nokia N8 and C7 both support HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100.

So they will work on any 3G network here in Thailand.

I also don't agree with his "Not as fancy as the iPhone" comment.

Wouldn't exchange my N8 for an iPhone, even if I got the next iphone 5 as a free exchange :whistling:

Not forget the E7, which is a great phone with outstanding audio quality!

  2. Mazda 2 Sports feels and rides good. Wanted a automatic model due to traffic. Consumption is a bit on the high side, but overall driving experience is more than a compensation to that! Takes any gas available 91, 91 Gasohol, 95, 95 Gasohol, E20...without any remarkable difference.

Not without reason, the Mazda 2 and the Fiesta (both share a platform), these cars are winning tests over Yaris, Jazz etc.

  3. Just got back from an aborted trip to Tukom (I live Soi Khao Noi) left at 10.30am, Suk road is closed, River Khao Noi was about 700mm deep when I went out but has resided now and should be clear soon.

Pictures? How did you go to Tukom if SUK was closed? Just wondering.

He said the trip was "aborted." I would refer you to Dictionary.com for a definition :whistling:

Sorry about that, but it was crazy enough having tried the trip, brave man!

  5. It has been pouring down like crazy for more than 12 hours now.

I have never seen anything like this.

People of my hotel really look concerned.

But luckily the rain slowed down a few moments ago and even stopped now ::-)

This is how the pool area of my hotel (at Soi Buakhao) looks like right now (where is the pool?):

Looks quite normal for that kind of rain!

  6. Very poor fact that we do not have more pictures with all the mobiles and digicams around! I can't find much. Would love to do some shootings but I am too far out from the city to get down now.

  7. I should imagine the legal situation is that the subscription is not available outside Malaysia.

    Technically not available.

There are Thai intermediaries who provide a proper valid subscription card for a fee over and above the package fee (all paid in advance for one year).

Presumably this is done via some Malaysian TV shop.

Or of course you could DIY if you know someone in Malaysia whose address you could borrow.

As far as I know the cost for Astro is still lower than the cost for True, even if you pay the supplement for the Thai intermediary.

Amazing, although the subscription contains the rental for Box and Dish in case of UbC.

@Raro, opposite Nongprue Market, I will take a look.

  8. Guys phone is a phone, it is less important than your wife or g/f or even your car. Why do you was your time with it. I use Nokia and HTC, IPhone, Blackberry...just not care. I need to call, message, listen to music and do some photoshots. Every mobile for 5000 - 10000 Baht can do this today, so why pay for brands, cool factors etc.? Sometimes it is good to be adult.

Some adults think internet services are useful :-) Having a searchable map of Thailand in your pocket is pretty dam_n handy, and I just love the places function (what restaurants are around here?). So is not having to lug a laptop around town most of the time, being able to access files from my home or work machines on the road if I need to. Audio books and podcasts have revolutionised my commuting and turned it into a productive educational experience. Keeping track of the stock market just got a lot easier too. I could rant for half an hour but you get the idea. It's a not just a phone, its a computer.

    .

Maps are standard on almost any phone today Nokia comes even with life long free navigation which is imho a good piece of software. You can download worldwide maps for free as well!

Podcasts, audio books? I rarely have time to listen to it when I am on the move, unfortunately. And again, to listen to this, you do not need a 18,000 or 25,000 Bht machine :-)

  9. Guys phone is a phone, it is less important than your wife or g/f or even your car.

I personally tend to agree with the above comment, and handle my phone affairs accordingly... But don't try to sell that idea to my Thai wife... She'd say just the opposite..

She keeps bugging me for a Samsung Galaxy S2.... or whatever it's called... the phone... not the tablet...for about 18,000 baht.... And I keep telling her, "ya, but for 18,000 baht, what exactly is that phone going to do that your (already very nice) current phone doesn't do?" She has no clue....

In case she will give you a few more nights out, you might consider the investment lol

  11. Question of time...but anyway I hope there will be some alternative somewhere. Thailand is changing. They don't want that sleezy stuff anymore. Let's face the reality. Rents too low to cover an area in the city centre as well.

  12. How is it the streets in Bangsaen are immaculate and Pattaya so dirty, when we all live in Chonburi

I've never seen many farang in Bangsaen so maybe the Thais only want to make a good impression for non tourists

Right, and to take this farther, most Thais in Pattaya dislike foreigners and go out of their way to do things that will upset them.

Like throwing garbage all over the place.

WHAT A BS!!! Because some dislike foreigners they throw garbage all over the place? Are you sick, thinking like that?!

  13. Discarding your waste in a proper way and then collecting it is one thing,

not to generate it in the first place is far superior. You think it can't be done??

Look at China: Bang, - one crackdown from the central government, and from

one day to the next no more free plastic bags at Tesco, Carrefour and Walmart,

not even at the corner store!!!

They give you bags made from cloth or other degradable materials, and you pay

    a Yuan for 'em.

Will any Thai central government EVER have the guts for such a sensible legislation???

"Visit" a toilet in China and you will start appreciating even Pattaya!

  14. hi all,

anybody knows a reliable company in Pattaya which installs dishes and provides smart cards for the Astro package from Malaysia?

I know JSTV but pricewise they seem to be a bit on the high side.

Anybody subscribed? What did you pay?

    Cheers
